The face plate vents allows the crossbone gundam to move around like a human, example in the manga Kinkade use the skirt anchor to grab two beam zanber and swing it around while destroying three F91 in the process. Similar to Tobia, when he uses the butterfly gun and defeated three Victory Gundams.
Bandai is really trying hard with the backpack connectivity. So especially Build Fighter kits, kits based on build fighter kits(like this X1) and All Gundam Project kits should be quite compatible.

I just built my Crossbone X1 earlier and I gotta say, it is a cool Gunpla. The downside is the jet thingy lacks the stickers, the huge sword and the beam rifle doesn't hold well.

Have you tried snapping the HGBC Skull Weapon backpack on this kit? I'm curious if it's a perfect fit and doesn't look too weird with the extra bulk on its back. Using the X1's thrusters of course. =D
I really hope X2 is mass release. X2 is my favorite Crossbone, and the new version of the Robot Damashii lacking the shot lancer is incredibly disappointing.
But I do hope the normal x-2 is a mass release mainly I want a x-3 they have no excuse for it not to be there since its a lead Gundam and the all Gundam project if for lead Gundams plus X-3 always gets the online exclusive treatment except the old robot damashii

Arm Slaves and Aestivalis units, for instance, are much smaller, and Labors, etc. I forget how Knightmares from Code Geass compare.

When I built the HGUC X-1 i tried putting on the amazing exia's GNX drive which had 2 pegs and surprisingly it actually connected on to it pretty well

X0 is my favourite it has the same weapon as the full cloth minus the I-field.
The Kai version of the X2 is a online exclusive so maybe we might get the normal one since it's a basic recolor with a new weapon and V fin
