- Adding and subtracting pounds, shillings and pennies required quite a bit of mental gymnastics. It was a dual system combining base 12 with base 20 as 12 pennies made a shilling and 20 shillings made a pound. Thank goodness for the decimal system!

Yes, very nice coins! It's a silver R1, .925 proof. Released with two other commemorative coins. Around 15k minted (can't remember exact figures). Worth around R250 (raw) and up R800 (graded).

@@penniesshillings also a 1988 dias. Its the same as the other silver coloured onces. Its just a yellow-redish colour with a different back print
