- TV Gospel Time
This episode was recorded live from Richmond, VA and it features artists from that area: The Jewel Gospel Singers, The Gospel Baptist Church Youth Chorus & The Cedar Street Memorial Baptist Youth Chorus. The soloist is Mr. Columbus Smith of Miami, Florida. The host is Betty Johnson.
The good old gospel before greed got in the pulpit. This was when you loved being in church
When Unity was in style!
WHEN WE DRESSED PROPERLY IN APPROPRIATE RAINMENT FOR DIVINE WORSHIP AS OPPOSED TO JUST COME AS YOU IS
A time when God was so revered
Amen, yes
I agree! This is the authentic sounds of traditional Gospel - not a recapitulation! I was there when "moving" and clapping began in even the conservative Baptist and few of the VA Methodist churches.
I enjoyed going back to singing they sung from their heart, it showed they knew who they were singing about. And that was the GOD in them.
You are so right! They were feeling what they were singing and moved by the One they were singing to. They were focused on Him!
They let the little light shine. You saw and heard the CHRIST in them- no orchestra just that good old piano and the clapping hands
I'm so happy I get this every Sunday I go to a small Baptist church in MI we have a wonderful time we have a small choir about 10 but they are bad those ladies can blow I just love it sometime I want to run. I'm glad to be a member there.
You're going to bring people to our Lord with these videos. It's important that you keep this going. The times are getting more and more difficult and there's a thirst for the goodness of God. God bless and protect you.
Thank you so very much for posting this! Please continue bringing us this beautiful, hard to find gospel singing. I thank God for you being here on UA-cam.
God Bless You!!! You're more than welcome! Thanks for stopping by.
By far one of the best renditions of "This Little Light of Mine" I have every heard.
House of Hung Realness : I'm glad that you've enjoyed. This rendition called "Let It Shine" was also recorded by James Cleveland and I want to say it was the Southern California Community Choir. The one is this video takes the prize tho...oooh yes!
They just don't sing songs like that any more because songs these with many more it really touch the heart and soul
No ‘show boating’ in the choir
Music certainly got African Americans through their time of struggle.
I completely agree.
And now it's getting this old woman through hers! Keep these videos coming. It's desperately needed. You're doing his work by posting these! Thousands will see this!
This when gospel music touched your soul and make you run to the altar to repent!! Oh how we long for those days. Today's gospel singers are riddled with excuses why they can't live right. The message gets lost in the apologies they make. We need pureness, holiness and the fear of God back in the church. Thank you Rowoches for posting. This is a gem indeed!
This is pure sweet gospel
Throwback gospel love it
+Rashod Haughton: Glad you've enjoyed!
Whew chile, I felt this within my spirit!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I miss this kind of singing. Thanks for these wonderful videos.
tHEY sUNG BACK IN THOSE DAYS SO HARD!!!!!!
They had too. Majority of the times black americans didnt have the proper musical equipment like microphones and Amplifiers. So in order to be heard in church over the piano, organ, and choirs older generations had to learn to project from their diaphragm
Their songs are from the heart, life was hard and the times of the day were also hard when they song
. That's something that no man could take from them. They also worship hard prayed hard and fasted often because of the situation. Blessings to you, we must remember we have not yet overcome.
@@bryanlee3895 Amen!
My brother, thank you for taking the time to make this channel what it is. Great!!! Glory to God!!!!!!
You're more than welcome and thank YOU for the positivity and well-wishes! God Bless You & feel free to stop by whenever you'd like. Take care!
Now this is simply beautiful what a treasure.
I'm so glad that you've enjoyed!
All of these episodes need to be remastered and put on DVD. These are too valuable to be lost.
You may or may not be aware, but episodes of TV Gospel Time have been released on DVD. One way you can get them is through a CD/DVD combination called EXPERIENCE GOSPEL. There are about 12 (maybe more) of them and each DVD contains 2 episodes. Also, there's a 2-DVD set called SOUL OF THE CHURCH and it contains several episodes of TV Gospel Time. Awesome footage, but a bit dark. Some episodes may be repeats of what's on EXPERIENCE GOSPEL.
No, I did not know they were available on cd/DVD. Thank you for the info. I will do a search and see what I can turn up. Thanks!
The EXPERIENCE GOSPEL sets look like this. They all have different themes...

A former member of the Bethune-Cookman Inspirational Gospel Choir sent me this link. Mr.Columbis Smith, the featured soloist in this episode, became the choir's director @ 1972 or '73. He remained there for years. He retired back to Miami and I would occasionally run into him. He passed away within the last two years.
I had no idea the late Columbus Smith was affiliated with Bethune-Cookman, which is my Alma Mater. I was in the Concert Chorale, but had many friends and acquaintances in the Gospel Choir.
The last song is my favorite! It would be impossible for me not to dance!
THE YOUTH CHOIR🔥🔥🙌🏾 Try me one more time 😭🙌🏾🙌🏾 songs that make you pray. Jesus bring us back to a place of surrender
This is what the youth use to be singing instead of trap music times have really changed

+GOD fearing from the hairstyles early 1960's
I wonder if the soloist from “I’m going to let it shine” and his female counterpart are still singing. You just can’t find music like this anymore.
LETS HAVE CHURCH ⛪🙌🙏
Got this link from my sister. This show wasn't broadcasted in the DC area or I surely would have watching it! I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to watch more! Thanks!
I'm so glad that you've enjoyed! I was informed that the show didn't air in the Philly area also. There are a couple of tapings that were done in my hometown of Baltimore, and featured some of the artists and church choirs from Bmore and DC.
Ps. 137:3
What year is this? Thanks for sharing.
I believe this is from 1965.

Those kiddos were before Jekelyn Carr's time.

I believe this episode is from 1965.
Hi Mr Rowoches can you please tell me how I could purchase copies of these videos. I really love them!
Who IS that boy on lead on the Gospel Baptist Church Youth Chorus? Dat boy is SHANGIN!
+H Peter Ray: I'm not sure of his name. I was told that he eventually went on to sing with James Cleveland as a member of the Los Angeles Gospel Messengers, but I'm not sure of how true that is.
+Rowoches His name is Nathaniel Morris. He sang God Is with James Cleveland.
Erin Caraway: Thank you very much for that information!
@@erincaraway9893 wow that's him.. Wow that's good history to know.
I just read that Nathaniel Morris was called home to heaven on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, in Richmond. He is the young man singing the duet with the young lady. I'm guessing he was probably a teenager when this was recorded. He passed at age 67. Here is the article which includes his some of his accomplishments: richmondfreepress.com/news/2018/aug/16/rev-nathaniel-morris-gospel-singer-playwright-mini/?fb_comment_id=2012041632163694_2327600840607770

Those soprano's weren't playing!!!
Come "On" Here🎯💯 No they weren't... Love it
3:35 Try me one more time
I cant find the lyrics of this song...
Does anyone know what the song is and who wrote it?
Maybe this is a prayer superimposed on an accompaniment?
Or can someone help to make sense of the text?
That's what I did:
Lord I know that I have sin
But Lord please try me once again
Lord please guide me
Lord please don’t deny me
Try me one more time
Oh Lord try me one more time
Lord please use my feet
To climb the rock and hill
Lord please use my hand
To do *?*
When my *?* try to fool me
Lord take me and use me
Try me one more time
Oh Lord try me one more time
Lord if you give me one more chance
Lord I will not fail you
Lord if you *?*
Lord *?*
Keep me by day
Keep me by night
Keep me *?*
*?*
I will not fall
*?*
*?*
I will serve you
Try me one more time
Oh Lord try me one more time

Hey bro @rowches; Shalom Aleykhem!
The 2nd song, do you know who wrote that song?
Kindest
I apologize for the late reply. I don't have a chance to check messages and comments as often as I used to. Are you referring to the song "My God Don't Change"? I'm not sure who wrote it, but it's the Jewel Gospel Singers of Virginia singing it! And they are TEARING it up!
What episode did the Harmonizing Four come up here
Episode#31
What year was this from?
I believe this one was from 1965. My stuff is in storage right now, but I really believe the year is correct.
