    Bought mine because of your channel and it's still my go to crawler. Best rc purchase I've made. Thanks for all your videos on it.

    I got 3 crawlers currently a TFL rig (similar to SCX10), FMS Jimny (1/6) & the Gen8 V2. Among all 3 I would always take the Gen8 for trailing or crawling. Got few mods on it like brass portal covers, 550 Holmes Hobbies motor, CSPower 30kg Servo, RXWar tires, Flysky GT5 remote, 1060A from Hobbywing & change the steering links as the stock ones rubbed the pumpkin alot. This thing is a beast for me. Sure sometimes it rolls but I still loved it because of how it handles multiple terrains.

    I put wendigo axles on my gen8, it fixed my roll overs on side-hilling. I did have to remove the fender flares, but it's a completely different rig with those axles...

    I don’t care what motor it comes with we all would replace it. Not because it’s bad but that’s how we are straight out. I put in a Creeper Crawler motor & loved it then the other day I had it out in the heat & the motor went up in smoke. I had it connected to a Hobbywing 1080. I was bummed but I have a few back ups & put in a Holmes Hobby motor the next day & that motor is rebuildable. I’ve had my Purple Gen for along time & still have the stock servo also. I’ve had no issues & is extremely reliable. I just had it out on a new spot I found near me & it just draws attention. Of course the Green Angel eyes light definitely make you look. I should’ve picked up a Green one when they had them on sale for that price you can’t beat it. I recommend this Crawler to anyone especially people new to RC Crawling because you can use & abuse it & not have spend anything on it until you want to.

      Awesome report! Maybe that hexfly servo is actually a decent one if yours has lasted as well!

    Are you still running stock shocks? If so what weight oil? Mine has zero flex.

      @SonoranScaleStudios  Рік тому

      Yes I’m using the stock shocks, one leaked from the factory but has been remedied. I’m using 40wt oil in mine. Check out this older video, helps a bit with approach and flex ua-cam.com/video/UZjSEz05VWM/v-deo.html

    My redcat gen 8 is one tuff truck, I loved the stock tires, I switched them out because I broke two rims! Redcat sent two new rims to me(minus the screws and the bead locks but they did replace what actually broke.

    Great long term review, liked. I also bought mine when v2 was released way back and still love it. You're totally right about tires. I hated the looks of the stock ones right out of the box. Are you running 1.9 or 2.2's? Guessing 1.9 if komps? Nice combo. Keep up the good work.

    • @SonoranScaleStudios
      @SonoranScaleStudios  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for the feedback and personal experience info! These are 1.9’s, albeit the Growlers are a large 1.9……and agreed, the stock tires looked strange as could be, skinny and small in huge wheel wells. The V2 just works so well.

    At risk of sounding like a rookie (which I am) crawler enthusiast, I thought I saw the SSD 2.2's recommended for the 1.9" Growler AT/Extra tires....so that's what I bought. While the SSD wheels do fit in the 1.9 tires......they seem to be a bit tight and produce quite a bit of sidewall bulge. Can I assume I need to get some 1.9 wheels for these tires? Btw, I followed the Danchee series and absolutely love the way it climbs. It may get some pitull tires as well;-) Thank you for the great content!

    • @SonoranScaleStudios
      @SonoranScaleStudios  Рік тому

      Some do choose to run 1.9 tires on 2.2 wheels. “Stretching “ does produce a unique sidewall though and it’s not for everyone or every truck. Simple answer, yes, I’d grab 1.9” wheels for the growlers but that’s just me.

      @@SonoranScaleStudios Thank you for the quick reply and advice. Looks like the Danchee just got some new SSDs and Pitbull tires. The Gen8 V2 will have the new 1.9 wheels to fit its new set of Pitbulls as well. Your channel has been instrumental in my initial education into the crawling community. I now have the Danchee, SCX6 and Gen8 V2. As long as the wife doesn't threaten a divorce, I see the collection becoming larger and larger. Thank you again!

    Really nice video and extended review of that rig. One thing I do disagree with, and has nothing to do with the Redcat itself, is the painting of the exterior of the body. It's something I've done for years. I started doing it when I built tank models. In order to get the looks I wanted I had to paint them just like you would a real vehicle. The only difference with RC bodies is I paint the interior of the body a base color primer to almost make a metallic or primer affect if the outer shell paint gets scratched. I use matte clear coat on the exterior like you did. To me it comes off looking more realistic instead of looking "modelled" or plastic. Its also how I add weathering affects to both my models and my rc bodies. One coat of matte clear, then the weather affect, then 2 coats of matte on top of that.

    • @SonoranScaleStudios
      @SonoranScaleStudios  2 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for the detailed! After reading your comment you are right, the paint on the exterior looks far more realistic compared to paint coming through clear plastic. I personally love the look of the roof, gives it a vinyl look from the era. It’s held up much better than anticipated so more exterior paint jobs are likely in the future.

      @@SonoranScaleStudios Are you on Instagram? I ask because I have a new body coming for my Gatekeeper and I can share the picture of the body after I'm done. I can even post it in stages if that is worth while. But thank you for sharing so much in your videos. It really does help us budget minded guys a lot!

    This is the video I was looking for! Just the necessary stuff. Glad to hear about the servo cause want to leave mine if possible stock. So you didn't have to do anything with steering links? Cause it looked like it was turning great. Just got mine delivered today so see what the priorities are. Gonna just try to drop pinion size for now but definitely be getting some tires

    • @SonoranScaleStudios
      @SonoranScaleStudios  Рік тому +1

      Nope, steering has great clearance on this one! Happy the video helped. A smaller pinion is a solid start to taming the speeds 👍 Enjoy it!
