Dogs aren't only for company, they are living beings. They get hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, and sick. If you want to have a pet, you must commit with your parents and with yourself to take care of the dog with your own life, because it will do the same thing for you. Get a job, in the case you don't have one already, and use the money to buy dog food and everything else a dog might need, clean the dog's deeds and make sure you train it properly. Trust me, a dog can improve your life if you put sincere effort to improve his... Cheers!

We got an eight and a half years old senior dog rescued from Hurricane Katrina with a bum leg from it at a no kill shelter in Dallas Texas that greatly and lovingly lived with us for another six years, even with heart disease. No regrets about adopting that sweet girl at her age! It's incredibly worth it to them and to your own heart to see a dog or cat through their golden years.
This is sweet to see today of all days. We lost our nine year old German Shepherd/Labrador mix. He lived a good life! Now our ten year old Australian Shepherd is lonely!
This video should be played in all animal shelters as a way to help educate the public to make the best possible home and family placement. Too many animals are returned to shelters because of uneducated adoptions. Thanks again Cesar!
Thanks! I'm going to suggest it to my local shelter. So many families adopt from there, and I really believe it will help them to understand the process better.
nearly every dog in a shelter is abandoned there by an ignorant owner. be realistic... 'too many' is your value judgement and you don't get to set the limits. Nearly NO OWNER takes his dog through 1 complete basic class, so that is the reason dogs are abandoned: frustrated ignorant humans. Dogs have nothing to do with any choice.

Some of the best advice ever for adopting dogs, all delivered in less than two minutes. Crazy good knowledge on display here. The part about dogs having issues inside the kennel but not outside is very true. When you adopt a dog, what you see in the shelter is not always exactly how that dog is. A dog may seem very quiet in the shelter, but that's just because they're scared, unsure, exhausted or in pain (surgery etc). When you get them home, their personality will really blossom. I wouldn't worry too much about barking either in the kennel. The shelter is full of all kinds of exciting smells and loud noises. A lot of dogs bark when they hear other dogs barking and a lot of dogs in shelters bark for many reasons. Which causes a chain reaction of barking. When you get them home, you will probably find they won't bark as much or will only bark at certain things, like garbage trucks or package deliveries. And those quiet dogs you see at the shelter will probably bark too once you get them comfortable and they are able to show their personality.

Zappos.com thank You Zappos.com I'm thinking about adopting an older dog from the Shelter as I know people who take their dogs there because they 'just don't want them anymore' and I think that's a sad thing to happen.
Older dogs (older than 3 years) have a more stable temperament and are easier to work with, in my opinion. A lot of times, older dogs are also less active and have less energy, which is helpful for those who work a lot or who aren't very active themselves for whatever reason. The only real downside to older dogs is they may have more health problems, and obviously they don't live as long. Hopefully you found a good dog fit for yourself, six months after leaving your comment.
I didn't even see my dog before I was picking him up to adopt him! I had to pick from pictures of the dogs and a description from the shelter. But he is perfect for our family😊
All my dogs came from animal shelters and are the best dogs ever. My last one a less then a week ago went to Heaven a black and white Border Collie great I cry and miss him so much, he was my big companion, we walked 4,5 miles daily, I put him flowers on his back and people adored him. He haul instead of barking. He lived 15 years at the end he got arthiritis on hip and legs and couldn't walk anymore. I am in pain lossing him.
I've wanted a dog my whole life and now that I'll finally be moving into my own apartment in a few months, I'll be able to get a dog. I'm so excited to go to my local shelter and rescue my very own good boy(or girl).
+JosayyLmao that's awesome! Congrats! Check out zappos.com/pets to see if our newest initiative, Friends on Us Fridays, is coming to your town! Maybe Zappos can even cover the cost of the adoption for you!
When I was 11 and adopted my first rescue from the shelter, she was loud, in charge, and at the front barking. I was so excited and thought she'd be the best to play with (my kid mind thought so haha). We love and care for her dearly now, but looking back I probably should have adopted the dog in the back lol! I was inexperienced and my dog took charge for years until I learned 😂
One thing, I always have been chosen by a dog who comes to me and wants me to give to him what the other dogs don't and that's why they kept him in his corner. That is the most special dog.
ive got a massive yard and i am looking for an energetic dog. after a lot of thinking and a dissapointing situation where a dog wasnt being given to us anymore, we most likely going to adopt a kelpie mix puppy from the no kill shelter i go to. hes black and has a crescent on his chest so im probably naming him mars.
i used to wanted a husky because its my dream dog, that is until i follow Cesar's step and focus on the energy instead of the breed, i ended up bringing home a pit bull and a pom that day ~
Helpful A lot of people are looking for a dog who also needs a home. The right shelter mutt or free-to-a-good-home dogs are who they're looking for but have no dog experience. Very helpful to focus on behavior and the individual dog's temperament.
Yeah but it's not really the same comparison with race and dog breeds since dog breeds have different temperaments and characteristics. For example, if you're really lazy and live in a small apartment you probably shouldn't get a dog like a border collie which has a lot of energy and needs space. Dogs that need space can become destructive and territorial if left alone in small apartments. One of the reasons people give away their dogs is because the dog doesn't act they way they wanted or doesn't match their lifestyle. Also checking the breed can help determine which training methods and environment is best.
Cesar has also stated many times how important it is to focus on the "energy level" of the dog; meaning there are high, medium, and low energy dogs and thus, you select the one to match yours. But you can't fit everything into a 2 minute video.
Cesar said, in one of his books, to take the shelter dog you are considering on a walk to see how you go together. Like test driving a car. This video shows that but was too quick to mention it.
I found 3 puppies abandoned in the woods. I found homes for all 3. One was blond boy dog, food growly. One was a girl, runt, wiggly and energetic. The one I would have wanted to keep, but I had 2 dogs at the time, was the girl pup who quietly walked up to me an put her chin on my knee.
It really is as simple as this guy says it is. 1) Watch his videos. 2) Understand why he does things 3) Apply his techniques 4) Enjoy your new family member ...simple
I love that he shows that all dogs can find a home, as long as they are a right fit for the owner

Is a pitbull a good gaurding dog
Pet love Tv yes. In the 1800s, families used to use pit bulls as babysitters. Any breed can be vicious. It all depends on the human.
Don't judge them with breeds because they don't judge you with race- one of most beautiful thing i heard today.

Aw, do you have a rescued dog right now? Mine is going on 11. I got her when she was 3! *MC
ive got a massive yard and i am looking for an energetic dog. after a lot of thinking and a dissapointing situation where a dog wasnt being given to us anymore, we most likely going to adopt a kelpie mix puppy from the no kill shelter i go to. hes black and has a crescent on his chest so im probably naming him mars.
Best of luck and tell Mars we say hi! *DO
shartfest - remember what he said about breed.
Cesar is THE BEST! 😇
Il love you so much César!!!Dont stop your good, good , good, job.
Can you coach me, you have a great voice, look, attitude! I could listen to you spill wisdom any day.
i used to wanted a husky because its my dream dog, that is until i follow Cesar's step and focus on the energy instead of the breed, i ended up bringing home a pit bull and a pom that day ~
All are awesome breeds! We are happy you found some cute pups and gave them a furever home! *MG
Helpful
A lot of people are looking for a dog who also needs a home. The right shelter mutt or free-to-a-good-home dogs are who they're looking for but have no dog experience. Very helpful to focus on behavior and the individual dog's temperament.
PS. Why is Cesar on my favorite online shoe store's channel?
UA-cam ads marketing to dog lovers! LOL Now I feel like shopping!
Cesar, please address in a future video how to distinguidh between middle and back of the pack dog personality.
Thank you so much.
So important to know this if adoption will be successful. Thx, Cesar!
Is there beagels?
This is so much more information than I thought!
+Aubrie Hamm glad you found it helpful!
You are so right, i totaly agree with you
This is amazing I’m so thankful that you have saved him I wish I could meet you in person. I have been watching every video every day 3:25
Can we have a 4-5 hour show about Cesar Millan?!
I have always had the best dogs. I let the dog choose me and it’s always been a win.
Is it okay if you visit foster homes sometimes???
I need a fluffy friend in my life please

Same here! I pretty much grew up watching the Dog Whisperer! *MC
my favorite dog is doberman and german shepherd huskies and labs
Cesar said, in one of his books, to take the shelter dog you are considering on a walk to see how you go together. Like test driving a car. This video shows that but was too quick to mention it.
집이 큰개 키우기에 정말 좋을꺼 같아요 집도 크고 마당도 있구 부러워용 2:14
Thankyou Cesar 🙏🏻
You are such a good person.
I wish I could show you a picture of my shelter dog. He is truly a Velcro dog. ALWAYS with me
It really is as simple as this guy says it is.
1) Watch his videos.
2) Understand why he does things
3) Apply his techniques
4) Enjoy your new family member
...simple
Never rescued a dog but should I take my dog with me while deciding
