I think I understand what Elijah meant. He likes chicken that is marinated to the meat, has flavor when biting the meat, instead of relying on crunch or flavors coating outside. It's a different point of view but I like his honesty
if he doesn't like it, then it is not for him. Nothing to be really serious. it's his opinion. he doesn't have to say he likes even he didn't like it because he is on youtube or something. As korean it would be great if he enjoyed alot, but even he didn't it is okay. everybody is different.
why is everyone in this comment section so sensitive? this video wasn't tense at all, Chicken connoisseur's content is literally a harsh and scrupulous review of wherever he goes, which is why getting a 4 or above is seen as a great positive. Ollie and Josh will have known this just like everyone familiar with his content is. Please stop crying in the comment section on there behalf its embarrassing.
You realize you're crying about people's comments...in the comments. People are entitled to their opinions, some don't share the same as you. End of story.
@@0oooooo0 He just really really really really really wants people to love Korean food. And I have a feeling the guest kind of revels in the idea of going against the grain so I have a feeling that tension was played up a little bit by them. But whatever it was a fun video lol
I know this video is old, but i just was so sad when I read comments. Never seen this kid before, but i think he was genuinely funny and honest. Why everyone so mad? He gave high grades (most of the grades was around 4 and it's a lot when it's out of 5) I hope when he read comments it didn't affect him much
I can't remember a single guest saying they didn't like Korean fried chicken. Elijah's honesty is a breath of fresh air that was desperately needed from the barrage of positive praise from everyone else. Great video, amazing collab, but I still felt a pang of pain when Elijah gave the chicken a 3.4.
Same feelings I have when Josh, Ollie and Gabie were disappointed with Jollibee's menu (except for Chickenjoy) when other channels give it high praises.
@@LuciferLizardo I mean you can't blame them, the was the first Jollibees in UK, and looking at how pale the chicken was, pretty sure the branch effed it up, the chicken joys from Cardiff though were looking Good.
Why is everyone so mad at him in the comments food is subjective to each person I’m actually happy we got somebody who had a difference of opinion for once on the Channel. I love Korean fried Chicken and I also love southern fried chicken, And the people saying “never bring him back on the channel again” are overreacting and childish
I honestly can't process it. Living off the chicken shop stuff in the UK through my uni years, to going and getting chicken in Hongdae (Seoul), it's just not even in the same world, it's like comparing fine dining risotto with tender love and care to a "risotto" left to simmer with 4 tesco ingredients for 30mins. I can understand not being a fan of yangyeom, but the actual batter with less sauce on it.. I mean there's no world for me where it isn't just incomparably better. Korean OG is like what western brands put on their TV adverts, compared to the greasy mess you actually get.
@@Tridentus But it's clear that she thinks what is "better" is what she's familiar with. Definitely not a real connoisseur, as she can't judge the Korean stuff on its own merits, but only in comparison with the British stuff she has as a benchmark.
@@Tridentus it’s because the guest has a young taste. He likes sweet, he doesn’t like the batter and says too crispy. It says something about what he only tasted and his own likes. I don’t think he is really a connoisseur in the strict sense. He is a connoisseur in UA-cam name lol. Coz I agree with you, it’s quite greasy on the western recipe of chicken. I usually can agree if they judged the chicken quality more convincingly. Lol. And yes, maybe just us who can’t agree how he judged the chicken🤔
@@mariadocarmosobreira8323 you define what’s best in comparison of what you already know. Literally every single guest on this channel does the same and Josh and Ollie do it as well. It only bothers you cause he didn’t prefer the versions which were presented to him here.
Ollie did a lot of heavy lifting on this video! Always amazing with the jokes. I don’t buy the CNSR’s assessment. Felt Josh and Ollie had to squeeze a lot of jolliness from this video to make up for the lack of enthusiasm from the guest.
i think the attempted humour/compliment in the beginning made the young man a little tentative and in turn rigid......understandable if they didnt have a prior acquaintance.
I think the problem was not in the candid rating, which is appreciated, but the attitude. He came off as being determined not to be wowed, which probably was felt by Josh and Ollie and made the whole vibe a tad uncomfortable. “Connoisseur” doesn’t mean “hard to please.”
most of the comments are mad damn stupid, jolly just invite this guest to try Korean chicken and see if he likes it or not, that's just it, objective or not doesn't matter that much.
The kid was determined not to like stuff. Oh I don't like cheese on my chicken. Doesn't even give it a try which for that dish was extremely important because the cheese balances out the sauce. I'm not that picky. I don't like mushrooms but if I'm given something with them I will eat it. I think you must look at yourself when referring to comments that are "mad damn stupid." lol
@@YoshihitoBLM hows he a clown just because you arent part of his audience? Ive been integrating with the korean culture for the past few years doesnt necessarily mean its for everyone
@@s-0284 Oh no, I have an opinion that differs from yours. Best try to debate it and change it! Dude's a clown. I said what I said, no changing it. Move on.
Lmfao! 100% agree. Ollie was trying so hard, but the guest just didn't really "click" with him. And it felt like Ollie was actually trying to ramp it up even more just to try to get the guest to react in some way.
He presented himself as chicken expert and looks like a famous one in the UK, he got lots of fans around the comments section. Not really convincing and entertaining.
To be fair, I don't think that guy is a chicken expert 😂🤷🏻♀️. I think he's an expert on what HE likes, but you have to be objective when rating a food or drink. He pretty much proved that when he said he'd rate chicken with cheese a 1 because he doesn't like cheese. He's not factoring in many things, the crunch is something that many many people find to be the most appealing thing about fried chicken. Also, the country of origin, spices, and different cultural tastes should be taken into consideration. A wine conissuour/sommelier doesn't rate a wine based purely on their own preferences, but on many different factors. I just don't think this an accurate assessment of Korean fried chicken. By the way, the guy is 29 years old. He's no child.
@@bloopbleep173 Guessing you haven't seen the so called experts video's then.. Also in no way was it meant as a joke or to be joking. The guy has issues with anything that he doesn't like but hides it as being a expert. To which he doesn't even reach that level. he has never eaten chicken outside of London. He has never eaten anything other than UK prepared chciken. Sorry he is about as much an expert as i'm the president of the US.
The thing about Korean Chicken is (and I've eaten some in South Korea too) It does relied heavily on the sauce and breading. The Fried Chicken itself (the original one) is not actually that different than normal KFC (depends on what shop u eat in or what country u eat the kfc from) Korean Chicken is very good compared to like most western fried chicken But if u went to Asia, especially south or south east Asia, u could find fried chicken with marination that's absorbed to the bone. And it made Korean Chicken somewhat pale in comparison. So yeah if he eat a lot of soul food type of Fried Chicken, pretty sure he's very honest about his review on this.
Facts, josh and ollie only know korean, korean and korean, they are not wrong because they are korean english man but i think they need to try something else beside korean food and culture
I can’t finish this. You can’t call yourself a connoisseur if you’re going to rate things low based on just what you’re used to. The criteria is also skewed. You can’t judge fried chicken the way you would soft-skinned chicken. The purpose of an introduction is that you come into the experience with an open mind. This feels more like he is there to pose as a challenge and they need to impress him instead of a guest they’re sharing a new thing with.
thats kind of how he always is on his own channel too Chicken is never juicy to him, he always calls it watery or something like that instead. Says its pumped with water and not just, juicy, good chicken lmao
I get the sense that the Chicken Conoisseur only does southern spicy fried chicken. There’s tons of fried chicken around the world. And KOrean is one of the more popular/trending ones right now. So very surprised that he never tried.
He was famous a few years ago for rating London "Chicken Shop" chicken. Those that live in London know the cultural relevance of the chicken shop, its not the same as going to a big franchise like KFC/Jollibee etc for example. Usually very cheap and unpretentious and run as a business by Asian families until stupid hours in the morning but every one does more or less the same menu but it just varies how good they make the chicken. People eat there after a boozy night out or secondary school kids get it as cheeky snack after school. Its quite difficult to describe to someone who hasn't grown up in London or big UK cities but that's the type of chicken establishments he rates.
I checked out some of Elijah’s other videos before writing and it seems like he is normally more relaxed and detailed with some of his reviews so I’m wondering what was making him seem so uncomfortable.
Culture. It's not easy interacting with people with a diffent personality to him. Plus they WANTED him to react a certain way. The jokes doesn't make sense if you aren't fromm a certain background
Yeah I watched his videos since he first went viral and blew up. I figured fame, and clash of personalities mixed with the fact he didn't really like the food meant he came across the way he did. Which is really bad. Shame, but well done lads trying your best!
I think the way the were talking about him like he wasn’t there with his first few tries might have made him uncomfortable. They made it awkward before he did.
Reading many comments appreciating the guest’s honesty . Not gonna lie, I feel like he is the type of person if you say something is good, he will say its bad. If you say something is bad, he will say its good. Lol.
you should watch few of this guy videos then you will know this guy is totally about flavour on the meat and thin chicken skin but not that crunchy, which really the weakness of korean fried chicken JOLLY clearly didnt do they homework before they invite this guy
@@kpopre-viewdrop-3906 nope, he already set a bar for him how any chicken dish he gonna rate for and of course everyone has its own preferences, if he change the rating system he head just because JOLLY invite them its basically lying to his subscriber, because their subscriber know what he based his ratings on if he was rating all of those ultra thick battered chicken is 4,7 now go imagine how disappointed his subscribers are when they were trying those chicken and found out that those chickens is not thinly battered? idk how you people blaming it to this guy, he just staying true to himself and tried to be honest just because you like something, doesnt mean everyone should like it, this guy already stated why he rate those chicken quite low, and its subjectively true
I think their vibes did not mesh well, they are good on their own. Most guests would laugh at Ollie's humour which generally eases the situation a bit but maybe he wasn't a fan of his jokes hahaha
I'd never heard of the guy. Definitely felt their vibes were a bit too different. It all comes down to taste and he might not like something, but others will. Don't really think eating a lot of chicken makes one a connoisseur, though. 😅😂 He likes his chicken a certain way, so because this chicken is the opposite of that, he's less likely to like it 🤷🏼♀️ Korean chicken is still my favorite, hands down. They just really know what they're doing.
exactly. he just some kid who only eaten one form of chicken in the UK and thinks that he is smart enough to pass judgement. you know what they say about people like that lol...
I feel like Elijah was just there to do his thing and review some chicken. Ollie was trying a bit too hard with his humor this time to fill the awkward silence. You could tell that it might have made Elijah a bit uncomfortable. It was still an entertaining and refreshing video nevertheless :)
Ollie's wine comparisons were spot on! Unfortunately the guest likes a certain type of chicken and everything else is just inferior to him rather than a different type of chicken.
yeah and then calling yourself "The Connoseur" after having a knowledge of a very narrow spectrum of chicken is kinda ironic. What's even awful is the way he was describing the dishes.
I used to watch and enjoy a lot of Elijah's videos growing up, didn't expect him to be this cold and hardly make an effort with josh and ollie damnnn don't take life so seriously man
It borderline feels like he's being a little narrow-minded and rude with his delivery. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions but with him being a self-proclaimed expert, his opinion is sometimes treated as a fact when it shouldn't be. He doesn't seem to be open-minded towards the diverse takes on fried chicken. There's a distinct difference between being rude and tactless and being genuine and honest. I couldn't enjoy the video because his attitude was incredibly annoying.
He was who he is. Idk why you expect everyone to be the same???. A LOT of ppl are honest. He was being how he is. He wasn't rude. Jolly expected him to love and adore it bc eveyone else does. But he doesn't and that's okay
The thing with this guest is that his candid attitude and analysis of the chicken borders on being brash. It maybe wasn’t his intent but it was the effect regardless. Now take this guest and compare it with Sortedfood. Both probably have had some amazing food, including some incredible chicken, and both parties probably have their own ideas and reservations of what qualifies as great food after years of eating and critiquing. The people from sorted however probably take Josh and Ollie’s efforts of arranging these collaborations and including them in their videos much more into consideration. People like Ben and Barry have eaten some amazing cuisine but never try to critique food at the expense of their guests/hosts’ feelings. That’s probably why they’ve had enjoyable experiences with other channels like Korean Englishman and the Sidemen. This is not to say the guest was rude, or acted outright unreasonably. It is just my opinion that their honesty and comments, at times, clashed with the vibe of the video and Josh and Ollie’s efforts of making an enjoyable video centred on him no less.
wow - i'm surprised his mild critique triggered so much thought and feelings, for i thought food reviews were about opinions on things eaten rather than networking.- all i took from this is 'the chicken derives its taste from its coating and condiments rather than the chicken flesh' which in any case is still above average. i also think the attempted humour/compliment in the beginning made the young man a little tentative and in turn rigid......quite understandable if they didnt have a acquaintance prior.
@@jump2itxxx True, his review wasn’t absolutely scathing (a 3.4 tho’s gotta stick out to them even if they don’t show it on their faces) and if he wasn’t used to these kinds of videos before he would be uncomfortable and stiff.
I really don't think it was that bad? In the first minute I shared your opinion, but afterwards it honestly just seemed like a guy with his own character giving his honest opinion (with a bit of his own humour thrown in as well), which, honestly, should be what it's about in food reviews. Like, just because the Korean chicken that Jolly really like didn't get stellar scores from him doesn't mean that he was a bad guest... (I say that, and this is literally the first time I've heard about cnsr. I'm not from the UK)
I love his honest review and I can totally understand where his review came from. but the way he delivered the comment was another thing. Maybe just his personality. But it's a struggle watching Josh And Ollie tried hard to keep the mood.
The mood they try to create doesn't match the guys mood. He's more a chill undertone perosn. JOLLY are over the top bubbly and oveally embracing and extroverted from the start which a lot of ppl aren't
Thanks Ollie - you saved this episode. The guest is a little full - of himself - and determined not to be impressed. We all enjoy a little ribbing but the juvenility of this guest makes it such a turn-off. Looking forward to your next videos! Jolly ho!
haha. i kinda getting the skeptical vibe even before the video begins. maybe he is denial. to call urself chicken cnsr but.... not trying korean chicken? ever? i mean...
@@NabilahOthman it's a persona. He doesn't take himself seriously. If you watch his videos you'd realise that his persona is to say big words and seem like he knows what he's talking about. It's one of the reasons he for famous - because a kid is wearing a suit and acting like a 'considuerr' when eating chicken
i respect the guest's opinions but to me, overall it just felt like he was super unenthusiastic to begin with. this video was like watching a kid trying to get fed something new and different by his parents because he only ever wants to eat nuggets or something like that. idk the vibes were just off... not the jolliest of jolly videos for sure 😅
Just my personal opinion so don't come at me. This is by far my least favorite collab in this channel so far. 1. How can he be a "chicken expert" if he hasn't had Korean chicken? 2. If not for Ollie's jokes, this interaction would be uncomfortable. For some reason it was as if he was forced to be in this channel and he didn't enjoy it. Even the biggest celebs in the world were much more appreciative and respectful towards Josh, Ollie and Koreans for giving them the opportunity to try these food. This isn't about him not liking the chicken, I mean there were guests who weren't fan of kimchi and other spicy food. Here it’s as if he is comparing everything to his own personal taste which basically British chicken. He better off call himself the British Chicken expert then coz his reviews are biased. I respect his honesty, but if not for Ollie's jokes (seems like he was pressured to make a lot of jokes to save the video too), this video would be hella awkward. You can just see it all in Josh’s reactions 😞
Thank god for Ollie on this channel, he is always hilarious and genuine, no matter the different energy, reactions of the guests or even if they are funny or not (depends on the viewer I agree), he makes the episode worth it! I'm always going in and keep on watching despite finding the content not quite to my liking some days because I know Ollie will bring a ray of sunshine in the video (no offence for the video or the guest of course, it just depends on everyone's liking)
He looks like he's about 14? Hasn't had time to diversify his palate. Calling yourself a "cnsr" doesn't make you one, just like calling yourself a tea mug doesn't make you one. Basically what he's saying is, "I know what I like, and this ain't it."
He didn’t share the full story. Koreans learned how to cook fried chicken from blacks back in the war. Koreans adapted it and instead of frying once Koreans would do a double fry which is how it holds its crispy texture even when sauced. So they learned it from blacks but took it to another level. I’m black and I’m just going to say it. Koreans make the best fried chicken. 😮I said what I said 😅
I love how Ollie saved this interview. Josh definitely gave up halfway. He does give fair points but noticed that he only prefers chicken without anything. If the chicken itself is the basis of good fried chicken would that limit his tasting adventure? Seems quite dissapointing even for a chicken connoiseur like him.
He has a point, though - sauce IS often used to hide the quality of whatever the sauce is put on. That doesn't mean that sauce is bad (I love sauce), but it'd probably be better to have an amazing "underlying dish" with al little sauce than a meh "underlying dish" slathered in sauce
But he rates UK chicken shops that are known for being shit. And if he thinks that's the standard then he knows nothing. It's like comparing all burgers to a burger King burger.......
Basically he's not a true "connoisseur" but just rating his opinion which is fine. I don't care if he doesn't like something, but he was a terrible guest. He seemed disrespectful of the culture, and channel. He seemed like he was only interested in what style he liked, and not interested in a different approach. He seemed closed minded, which is my issue. The cheese on chicken is an example, especially considering that chicken wasn't fried chicken. Also, is it likely that all that chicken was not good or moist? Really? Josh and Ollie would take him to a bad chicken place? Not buying it.
i get where he's coming from. "you want me to eat chicken but this feels like im eating batter and sauce and the chicken is just the spoon" but the whole thing felt very closeminded that really made the video flat. it doesnt make me want to check his videos at all. bring back mr z
Korean chicken is overly biased in Korea like Koreans think Korean chicken is the best in the world which is an opinion tbh. And Elijah isn’t certified expert it’s all jokes. He is just giving his own opinion like it or not and I can assure you many people would agree w him including myself
The comments had me really worried, but the video was good. At first, the vibes were strange. But with Ollie turning up the humor, the guest got more comfortable, and the video was okay. It was also interesting to see them appreciate his PoV even though it broke their hearts
Honestly speaking, this is the first Jolly episode i didn‘t really enjoy watching. Josh seemed kinda uncomfortable and Ollie really had to save the video with his jokes (that were amazing as always. It‘s not that i dislike the honesty and want to see fabricated reviews that just enjoy everything, however i felt that this man was not a Connaisseur but rather someone trying hard to dislike Korean chicken and selling personal preferences as an objective review. Especially on UA-cam i feel like the promise of honesty is often confused with being overly critical and searching for (subjective) reasons to back up that critique.
What makes a Korean Fried Chicken is the chicken, the extra crispiness batter and also the sauces/coatings, it goes hand in hand. If one decides to judge solely on the chicken, then its not really a Korean Fried Chicken innit? He should call himself Plain Fried Chicken (My Personal Style) Connoisseur instead. And Yangyeom isn't even a spicy type of chicken like those Nashville Hot Chicken (which I believe he's comparing it too) , the flavour profile is sweet and spicy not "dead" for sure.
I think this shows that the thing that makes korean chicken special (the crunch and texture) is actually really subjective. I think a lot of the people on jolly don't particularly like fried chicken, whereas this guy loves the more western style of fattier, softer fried chicken. It doesn't fix anything for him like it does for the other guests, because for him it didn't need to be fixed.
Perfect analysis. I didn’t brought it down like that. Your last sentence sums it up! That’s why I’m on the comments to help me understand and be convinced on what he is saying. aside from one saying the kid is a picky eater, you saying his idea of chicken cannot be fixed are the top perspective on this. Thank you!! I hope he learns how to be a real connoisseur to live up to his name and not just by a name in UA-cam and everyone believes him. I was convinced he is not an expert when he said he doesn’t like cheese and would rate it 1. That’s so subjective.
This is one of the best explanations I've seen for this. In his experience the chicken he usually eats cannot really be improved being great as it is. While others see the crunch and less oil as a plus, that for him didn't need change. This makes so much sense. I couldn't wrap my head around the unnecessary tension around this episode. But this makes so much sense, thank you!
And tbh I kind of agree with him. I haven't tried Korean fried chicken, but I feel like I wouldnt really enjoy it either, because I don't like sweet sauces on meat and I also don't like my hands being sticky from eating food covered in sauce. And I never really understood the guests complaining about fried chicken being too greasy... it's full of fatty skin and deep fried, what did you expect? This is a great comment.
As a black person I knew who he was bc he's more popular within the blk community. In the urban /inner city blk community chicken shop is a huge part of our childhood. It brings back memories and is gernally a fun vibe. His channel is stemmed from that. For white ppl it isn't. And that's okay 👍. He's not actually a full expert 🤣🤣🤣
@@VonApennn how can you say something like that when you don't even met this person in reallife just sitting behind a screen tiping your shit not even thinking grow up bro

@@crazzzytimes3357 i never mentioned anything about his opinion on the chicken, i only asked why he called himself a chicken connoisseur when he hasnt tried the korean fried chicken, food connoisseurs usually jump on anything new in their country and as you said, korean chicken has been in the UK for a few years now, so how hasn't he tried it yet?
@@emfourthree3169 he hasn’t tried it maybe down to a few things…he didn’t know…he wasn’t interested…didn’t have the opportunity…who knows only he does…
also hes not ACTUALLY a chicken connoisseur it started off as a joke of him rating chicken shops ( british style chicken) and he just kept rolling with it because everyone found it funny. he was kinda like a famous meme in england
He's absolutely right, about the sauce doing all the work. I've jokingly referred to the chicken in Korean barbecue chicken as a sauce delivery device. And I've made Buldak without breading or cheese, but I've never had it made by someone who knows what they're doing, so I have no idea what it's supposed to taste like -- can't find it around here. But yes, dairy cancels spice, that's why we put sour cream in super spicy chili.
Somehow i didn't "feel" this collab. Not because of the (honest) ratings, just because there was no vibes among these 3. 🤷🏽♀️ Ollie clearly made this video enjoyable .
I appreciate the guest’s honesty and i understand where the guest is coming from. But I just think the vibe is a bit off, they didn’t mesh that well so thank you Ollie for being so funny. You saved us from boredom.
The sauce is everything when it comes to Korean fried chicken. Without sauce, it is crunchy but bland. I love it, but I can certainly appreciate this kid’s preference for fried chicken that doesn’t depend on the sauce for flavor. A brined buttermilk fried chicken or Nashville hot chicken is flavorful to the bone.

what an awkward video. i couldnt even finish it but got a good way through it thanks to ollies humor. elijah was DETERMINED not to like anything he tried and was incredibly biased in his "ranking". i felt bad for josh and ollie. ollie did a good job trying to ease the tension with jokes which was much appreciated! love you two! no need to bring this guy back on your channel. from the comments, i dont think anyone wants to see him back. haha
There is no such thing as excessive crunch in "fried crunchy" chicken in my chicken loving world. I would have to be lying if I said I wasn't offended because I love a good crunch. LOL He is entitled to his own opinions and I don't agree with his so called "expert" opinions.
And I can’t believe the comments agree and say that after crunch they can’t or no taste of the meat... did they ever tasted Korean Fried Chicken? Korean fried chicken has tender meat inside that crunch AND it has tasty meat. Some days in the comments the meat isn’t tasty or blah blah blah. I can’t. It’s obvious some didn’t even tase Korean Fried Chicken and just says things badly about it.
I strongly disagree with you (and the other two guys in this video). I wouldn't say this chicken looked like it was to that point though. When I hear comments like this it just tells me that this person has never overcooked fried chicken. Even the perfect batter will become a hard shell if over cooked. That is objectively not a good thing. If you've never overcooked fried chicken...it probably isn't because you don't make mistakes...it's probably because you don't do it very much. If you can't cook it, then why should anyone care what you think of the taste?
I have been watching Jolly for at least 2-3 years and its my 2nd favourite channel on UA-cam. I recently tried Korean fried chicken and liked it. I like decent spice but not really spicy. I could only do 3 mouthfuls of Shin noodles (not even half the container) so when I tried Korean fried chicken I ordered sweet chili, which is mild. It probably wasn't literally the most flavouful chicken I'd ever had but it was up there, I would put it in the top 3. I would have preferred the batter or coating to be crispier than it was (so the opposite of the taster in this video) and I could have done with slightly more spice. I'm going to try it once more this week and this time will order the crispy "flavour" (I wonder if its more of a texture thing) to see if my 2nd tasting is even nicer.
People seem to think Korean fried chicken is fried chicken + sauce when it’s not? When you’re in Korea too have lots of sauce options or you can go plain, the method of frying and the batter is what makes it special which is why I don’t think any KFC in the UK truly represents the quality you get in Korea as it seems every joint now offers KFC which is usually regular fried chicken with sauce on it. 🤷🏻♀️
This was low-key awkward to watch, and not because he didn’t like much of it. I mean, people have their preferences when it comes to food so that’s okay, but the overall vibe just made it awkward 😬 If not for Ollie and his jokes here and there, this would’ve been a disaster! 🫣
I think their audience in general is quite different (which there is nothing wrong with that!) But definitely I personally feel like I couldn't comfortably (?) watch this video ?? Kinda feels a little more tense than I personally like (maybe bc I watch Korean Englishmen/jolly while I eat alone for breakfast and usually want something easy going) Overall this was a different experience! But now I'm definitely curious as to what fried chickens he has given high ratings for. I have a friend who thinks about the same as him about KFC, but when I tried the fried chicken he raved about I was like ??? Anyways long ramble lol
I think it's because the guest took too long to react to the food? You could kind of tell Josh and Ollie were uncomfortable with how long he was taking- and I think them whispering to each other was pissing off the guest as well. Their personalities just didn't gel well
@@zoe4481 yes!! They r just diffrent people. Most peopel on this channel are like THIS IS THE MOST BEST CHICEKN I HAVE EVER TASTED. And for him it's just alright. And that's his opinion and that's fine
You can tell he's judging the chicken on the chicken/ meat itself, becuz UK chicken shop chicken has nothing to offer other than.... well chicken. However Korean Fried Chicken is about the whole experience with how other ingredients and sauce ascends fried chicken to another level of cuisine, yet he refuses to acknowledge that. I'd say it's just an unfair comparison but it's just sad how you can be so conditioned to the bland chicken shop chicken that u refuse to see how wonderful korean fried chicken is.
You could also look at it this way. Maybe the korean chicken has so much focus on the sauce and batter, that they put less effort into the meat itself? When you look at the way they do barbeque with the beef, they go all out on the best quality beef imaginable, so imagine if they did the same with the chicken, on top of having the sauce etc. They could take the already amazing korean fried chicken to another level, by focusing on the weakest link in their current recipe, aka the meat. But of course this is just one way to look at this 😉
I see your point, but I’ll offer a couple of counter points. He is judging the chicken by the same metrics he judges every other shop. To follow Ollie’s wine comparison, if you enter white wine in a red wine competition, it’s gets judged by red white metrics. His audience knows he judged chicken a certain way so he needs to be consistent. I am in the southern US and we are very particular about fried chicken. The emphasis is placed on the chicken and breading or batter. Heavily sauced chicken usually is used to hide poor quality chicken or poor quality seasoning and cooking techniques. Most people would have his reaction when eating Koren chicken bc we are put the emphasis on the chicken. On the flip side, I imagine most Koreans would be disappointed in our chicken bc it doesn’t have well-crafted sauces. That shows up in tons of reviews online of Koreans trying US foods.
@@KallumBest All I'm saying is that criticism, no matter where it comes from, is worth listening to. It might be absolutely true that this guy doesn't know what he is talking about at all. But by listening to his HONEST feedback, you can see whether there is something to what he is saying. But at the end of the day, taste is subjective, and this is just his experience, and his taste. And with that he can not be wrong. He is not saying the chicken is bad, just that he would prefer something else. Also, it was a scale from 1-5, and all of the chicken got above average scores, so he didn't even say it was bad 😅

@tawanamufasa291 that's what fried chicken is. The coating. No chicken is flavoured. Literally the chicken shop is basic. The lad even says he has a chicken burger. It was obvious he was lying about stuff to keep his channel relevant. He saw them as a threat
you marinate the chicken and then it has flavour inside it since it soaks in and combines with the meat. thats why marinates exist and you dont apply any sauce after cooking since the meat has all the flavour. his whole point was this was crunchy chicken with nice sauce on top but chicken itself was bland@@superspengz

It is true the actual meat of Korean chicken is just plain relies completely on the coating
Yes this a weakness for Korean Fried Chicken

I can understand not being a fan of yangyeom, but the actual batter with less sauce on it.. I mean there's no world for me where it isn't just incomparably better. Korean OG is like what western brands put on their TV adverts, compared to the greasy mess you actually get.

It's just a joke, he's just some random guy who got popular making tongue-in-cheek videos taking a basic chicken and chips too seriously

The thing about Korean Chicken is (and I've eaten some in South Korea too)
It does relied heavily on the sauce and breading. The Fried Chicken itself (the original one) is not actually that different than normal KFC (depends on what shop u eat in or what country u eat the kfc from)
Korean Chicken is very good compared to like most western fried chicken
But if u went to Asia, especially south or south east Asia, u could find fried chicken with marination that's absorbed to the bone.
This feels more like he is there to pose as a challenge and they need to impress him instead of a guest they’re sharing a new thing with.
thats kind of how he always is on his own channel too
Chicken is never juicy to him, he always calls it watery or something like that instead. Says its pumped with water and not just, juicy, good chicken lmao
It’s not that deep
Yall angry because of chicken lmao
I agree!
Expert on things he likes, NOT a chicken expert.
I get the sense that the Chicken Conoisseur only does southern spicy fried chicken. There’s tons of fried chicken around the world. And KOrean is one of the more popular/trending ones right now. So very surprised that he never tried.
He didn't even comment on how the breading and crunch is different. I feel like Korean fried chicken was unjustified in this lol.

The reaction on the cheese proves your comment. It’s a straight 1 eating if he eats something with cheese since he doesn’t like cheese.
Same thought. When he only appreciates plain fried chicken, that's already a problem.
finally someone said it! ahahahah
Right? Or just simply a big fan of typical american style fried chicken. He still cant go even a lil bit far from it
He looks like he's about 14?
😮I said what I said 😅
Ollie's rounds up/down system is so funny. rate 3.5 and 4.4 chicken becomes same rate LOL
"Retirement? 65 years old?" Which rounds up to *70* loll
@@samplebriefmint4204 thats an extremely western pov
@@wearmeout1 Therefore; extremely correct.
But he rates UK chicken shops that are known for being shit. And if he thinks that's the standard then he knows nothing. It's like comparing all burgers to a burger King burger.......
by this comment, I say you don't watch his video's.
I think Jolly should go on a chicken shop date with Amelia Dimoldenberg and go on a date with her, eating Korean chicken 😉🍗
The combination of her and Ollie could be hilarious!
I entirely second this. That'd be my dream collabs if they're possibly making this happen!
Amazing idea ✨
@Amelia Dimoldenberg
THAT WOULD BE GENIUS. HOW HAS NOBODY THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE.
i get where he's coming from. "you want me to eat chicken but this feels like im eating batter and sauce and the chicken is just the spoon" but the whole thing felt very closeminded that really made the video flat. it doesnt make me want to check his videos at all. bring back mr z
Ollie makes the Best references " you're like Jasmine at the start of Aladdin" "like a sommelier who hasn't tried Red Wine" 🤣🤣🤣
But ultimately exaggerations
Never heard of the Chicken Connoisseur and I don't see a reason to followup based on this appearance.
치킨전문가가 한국치킨을 안먹었다니 이건 전문가라하기 어려운데요? ㅋㅋㅋ

You are absolutely right!
It felt a lot like he has a very specific taste and wanted to see exactly that in Korean Fried chicken.
Plain fried chicken is right.

I really want to thank Ollie for everything. He is amazing
This video had me laughing non stop from start to end. The back and forth banter was amazing. Josh and Ollie are so quick witted!
This young man has elevated his own seat as being chicken taster ... such as snob
After this video I went to check out his channel and all I can say is that, what a PRETENTIOUS GUEST.
This man is no connoisseur, he has the taste buds of a covid patient.
I much prefer Mr Z's energy, as it's more on the same level as Josh and Ollie. This video just feels awkward asf.

He's absolutely right, about the sauce doing all the work. I've jokingly referred to the chicken in Korean barbecue chicken as a sauce delivery device. And I've made Buldak without breading or cheese, but I've never had it made by someone who knows what they're doing, so I have no idea what it's supposed to taste like -- can't find it around here.

There is no such thing as excessive crunch in "fried crunchy" chicken in my chicken loving world. I would have to be lying if I said I wasn't offended because I love a good crunch. LOL He is entitled to his own opinions and I don't agree with his so called "expert" opinions.
it hurts his gums!! you can tell Ollie was thinking this guy was just trying to find excuses not to like it lol
@@ays7466 the videos showing him eating “more crunchy” chicken in his “expert reviews” says otherwise. A good inside job of getting viral indeed. Lol.
AHAHAH I call BS on his review to be honest. hahaha
This kid is the type that's keeps telling everyone that the food's not good but keep eating the most .
I wanna see the reverse of this of Elijah takes you to his preferred chicken shop
they should've given him the spiciest thing on the menu. guy looks like he needs some spice in his life
Yeah I'm kinda surprised they didn't order him a super spicy chicken.
Spice in the UK does not always equal flavour. You can definitely get HEAT with ZERO flavour here.
He looked like he didn't even want to be there.
You're probably just not used to people who have this kind of personality or demeanor.
I think their audience in general is quite different (which there is nothing wrong with that!) But definitely I personally feel like I couldn't comfortably (?) watch this video ?? Kinda feels a little more tense than I personally like (maybe bc I watch Korean Englishmen/jolly while I eat alone for breakfast and usually want something easy going)
Overall this was a different experience!
Exactly. Mustn’t have disliked it that much if he continued to finish it.
