Barney McKenna and Tony McMahon made a TV show called The Green Linnet about Irish music in Europe in 1978. Maybe he was away making that when the rest of them were at Siamsa in 1978? Seems a reasonable guess. I don't know where people track down the archive footage but more power to you all. It's fantastic. Just fantastic.

In 1978 Ronnie was not a permanent member of the Dubs. He made a break 1974-1979.

That's right, Jim McCann was a permanent member at this point and Ronnie was standing in for Barney.

@@mydigicraftscrafts8649 he was far from a junkie. Alcoholic most likely but who wasnt an alcoholic in that band. One of the finest music groups ever to exist. Individually each of them were fantastic. But together, something very special happened

comment from another video (The Hens March):
Special constellation : Barney was absent (some say he was sick, or he was off to record ``The green linnet``) - and got substituted by Ronnie, who was in that moment not part of the Dubliners !
One of the few events recorded, where you will find both Jim and Ronnie present

Simple math: Barney + Ronnie + Luke + John = Perfection. Good video, but not perfection.
