Mizzy Lake Trail - Hiking in Algonquin Provincial Park
One of the best trails I have hiked on... In the heart of Algonquin Provincial Park off Highway 60, this 11-12km loop trail offers a true "wilderness" feel with plenty of opportunites to view wildlife (moose, deer, beaver, otter, different kinds of birds...). I spotted several hoofprints, animal tracks, moose/ deer droppings, but could not spot a single moose or deer :-(
My luck with wildlife sightings remain elusive.
The trail was moderately challenging, many patches of snow and parts of the trail was flooded with water melting off the snow - made it very interesting. I was greeted with rain/ sleet in the last hour of the hike.
Overall it took my 5 hrs to complete (of course I had stopped and admired the surrounding beauty many times thus maybe taking an hour and a half longer than what it usually take to complete).

16:35 Correction: It is not Hemlock, its Balsam Fir - since it seems it has opposite branching. Hemlock would have alternate branching. It's very common to confuse the 2 trees.

Very good job on the vid btw! I’ve done many of the Algonquin trails but never that one. What month did you go? Was thinking of planning a hike for early April but a bit concerned about the ice making it treacherous to walk on. Didn’t look too bad for you.

I did it in April of 2022. There were a few icy patches, nothing too bad. I can suggest carrying ice cleats in case you need it... Thanks for your comment ❤️

Unfortunately no, but I am 100% sure they were lurking close by in the woods/ marshes. I saw many many hoof marks and lot of moose droppings.

Safer than driving on a highway I think. It was lonely on the trail. For 5 hrs I saw no one else. But I have grown to love that solitude in the woods.

Totally safe - except for city-its and yahoos that allow their aggressive or rambunctious dogs to run free!
