I dont think most people understand how daunting it is to try and reimagine a piece of music so iconic as the Williams theme. This had every reason to fall apart and feel like a cover (I am also a film composer) and this is, quite literally, a perfect modernization of a timeless theme that feels familiar as well as entirely new.
I think that's why John Williams composed it that way 45 years ago... even then, he knew it would be damn near impossible to beat, though I've heard a couple of good versions since then
@JoeSparro well, keeping it is essentially what they did, or rather they took original existing music cues, which everyone knows they had to get clearances for, and interspersed them with the new material by Benjamin Squires
@BenjaminSquiresMusic I love the way you composed this... I'd ultimately want to acquire not only the OST, but the complete score, including unused cues, every conceived idea for the score
@@thomascourtois1404 honestly, this is the bit that sounds like a jerk. From my interpretation of the original comment, it looks like it's saying that this theme is perfection. Like pretty much every other comment here. So how does this specific one make OP out to be a jerk?
No, this is not a mixture of Zimmer's Man of Steel score and John Williams' Superman score. I honestly do not know why so many people think they hear Zimmer in this music. This is entirely John Williams. It's a combination of his 1978 Smallville theme and his main Superman theme.
This sounds like a perfect blend between John William’s score and Hans Zimmer’s score. And you know what, I’m here for it. Not bad at all! Edit: Wanted to quickly throw my opinion out there to whom it may concern. I loved the John Williams score for the first half of my life (still admire it as a piece of superhero history). But the more often I heard it in pop media, the more over played it became to me. And look, I get it. It really is so iconic and it went with arguably the greatest actor to play Superman (RIP Christopher Reeve). So when I first I heard Hans Zimmer’s score for Man of Steel I was sold. It felt so refreshing and invigorating to hear something new for Superman. But, all that to say like in my original comment, hearing John William’s original theme while taking notes from some modern Superman themes and evolving it, it sounds incredible. Looking forward to the teaser drop today!
Now this is the kind of score that’s been missing from these movies for a long time! The score itself is just as much of a character and part of the story as the actual people who were cast.
