- Queen of Pentacles is a 7 voice eurorack hybrid drum kit:
• Analogue-based: bass drum, snare drum and clap
• sample-based drums (e.g. hi-hats, ride and crash cymbal - or simply use your own samples via SD card)
• -latency sample playback directly from SD card
• analog sound generation: 3x band-limited LSRF binary noise generators with spectrum animation, injected into discrete analog circuits
• -board effect processor with 2 banks consisting of 16 effects in total, including additional auxiliary input and firmware update over audio
• isolator-style LP/HP filter with VCA control and saturator booster
• that make you dance: Fit all music styles of music - specifically tuned for EDM and Techno
• factory sample bank by Nicolas Bougaïeff (Mute, Novamute) including processed custom sampled Paiste 602 cymbals:

Received my Queen of Coins yesterday and I definitely turned my case into a club. I feel sorry for letting go of the Blck_Noir because it would have been a great combo. Stupid me. The Queen's kick may be inspired by a 909, but it sounds completely fresh and really powerful. I love the added noise that makes every hit a tiny bit different.
there are three separate binary noise generators for each kick, snare and clap and each of them is unique however all both three react to SPOILER reduction.
Is easier to notice noise part in the kick drum if you lower the kick tune knob from the faceplate

it would be cool if Endorphin.es come up with a techno system that has the case/power, Queen of Pentacles with Black Noire and Ground control sequencer. It would be a game changer for mobile techno modular to compete with Erica Synths Techno System!
@@GuitarsAndSynths I would not be surprised if they're planning on something like that. I am experimenting a lot with that idea because Ground Control gives you a BeatStep Pro in one module + other features. But we have to wait for GC to arrive :)

Please put a kick pitch function and sd card access on the front panel. This thing sounds incredible but would be far more usable with front panel control. Jeeeez it sounds good. Fantastic demo. Well played.
you can access on the panel tune decay control - similar 909 has but way more extended. from the backside you have the access to the bass kick drum pitch - something you tune carefully and not everyday
@@Endorphines I think most people would disagree that BD pitch is something you don't use frequently. It's very odd that you put this and the SD card on the back, when both of them could be expected to be used constantly. These seem like significant design flaws.

@@QuincasMoreira Yes, but I think putting the SD card where the module needs to be removed from the case every time you want to add or change samples seems like a bad choice, at least. And a way to tune the BD without removing the module also just seems like a necessity - doesn't everyone tune their kicks to the song?
@@rhialto39 I'm just saying, with a panel this dense it's to be expected some concessions had to be made... Many modules have the SD card on back, it's not such a big deal to twist 4 screws, in my opinion. This thing looks and sounds great!
And no, not everybody tunes the kick, in fact often the kick isn't even pitched as it has a pitch envelope applied. That said I do agree that would have been a nice control to have on the panel, along with a cv input. Cheers!

Wait.. the snare has tune on the front panel but the kick tune is under the module... huh
kick also has tune decay on the panel - the control you are used to on 909. However the main pitch body, VCO root pitch is behind as usually you need a scope or tuner to properly tune it. That's not really a live control
SD card is hidden behind the module for security reasons as the module is intended for the live use. taking the sd card off and insert again is interesting but the aim is to place sample and make music :)

I kinda agree with it should be stable for the whole life set and not. But seriously you can just put a kick sample on the SD Card

Congrats on the new module, but seriously: you guys really upped your video game during this horrible year! The quality of this presentation is as good as one could ask for. Nice camera work, voice and text (!), very detailed and not-too-fast explanation of the module... very nice!!! (This baby just replaced DFAM as my fave drum synth)
Will this succeed or complement Black Noir?

Quick questions, are the user samples stereo? And does the demo video use the factory provided sounds?
stereo samples can be used but only left channel will be used. 90% of all demo video made with bank #2 and then switched through the rest factory sample banks. bank #1 is a Paiste 602 cymbals we recorded on our own and were processed by Nicolas. Check the manual at our website - same url as our username :)

I like the 909 modeling. I love Blck_Noir but the CR78 is a tamer beast in comparison. The two modules will complement each other well.

What would be the best sequencer to pair with this module?
just to let y'all know.... this is not in the manual but you cannot really use drum loops in the sampler slots as the pitching knob is stepped - also, preparing samples is a real pain in the ass - It's an amazing sounding module other than that.

I'm guessing that the samples are dedicated to this awesome piece of gear, but it would great if the samples were available to purchase!
those are simple WAV samples, there is no protection on them and eventually we will release sample packs from other artists. the whole magic with the factory sound bank is that it plays nicely with all together and going thru 8 banks you pass thru different moods and characters that what Nicolas managed to make. as for the samples preview themselves they might sound too simple or those Paiste 602 samples processed to sound even ugly but then the whole magic of volume envelope applied and they sing

Looks cool and would pair well with Ground control sequencer whenever that is released :-) But no pitch 1v/oct CV control is unfortunate as I love to modulate that on drum modules.

How long is the sample playback? Also how much memory of samples can you fit in a bank?
there is not limit on sample length, only FAT file limit to 4gb. Each bank contains 4 WAVE PCM files, so is simple

it's has the same noise problem than the Black Noir? and please don't say that it was solved in the last firmware because not.
Queen of Pentacles is free of noise and sounds very clean unless you crank all distortions and saturators to the max of course. Blck_Noir had occasional noise issues when placed close to or with some power supplies as its inductor coils in original analog drums design catched the hum from some high potential high frequency emitters or power supply transformer. We've fixed that in the latest firmware of BN :)

1. yes, all the sounds are from QP module only sequenced by GC sequencer prototype. 2. QP, GC, airstreamer as an LFO and a new module which will be released in a few weeks :)
