There is nothing dishonorable about ramming. IF these guys were deliberately ramming me (I don't think they were, I gave them no choice :) ) then they chose the wrong strat, and should know that a krait has a LOT more effective health. Knowing when to ram and when to avoid it is a huge part of battle strategy. I spent 700mil on kitting out a type-10 and an anaconda for PVE missions. I got down to 30mil and decided to invest in rebuys from doing biologicals, my problem is that I have no idea what im doing on the battlefield. I have half lasers and the other half Multicannon, the only engineering is on the fsd and distributor. I need to grind unlocks, really trying to invest in tharigold killing ship. Suggestions?
Hey, thanks for commenting :) Firstly, you've got two ships whose primary purpose is essentially the same, deliver a lot of cargo from a fairly well defended vessel. They differ in that the Anaconda is far better suited to long range deliveries, and the T10 more for short range deliveries. Neither is useful in combat against thargoids or other players (unless in similar ships), as they are simply too slow in terms of forward speed for thargoids, and too slow maneuvering for any decent level of combat. If I were you, and I wanted to work on my combat skills and combat rank, I'd sell the type 10, get a Krait mk2, focus on unlocking the heavy duty grade 5 armor modifications, and unlocking gauss cannons (anti thargoid railgun type weapon), as the krait mk2 is very stable making it easier to aim and shoot, and has the medium hardpoints in a very nice position to use as a fixed weapon. This leaves your three large upper hardpoints free for a couple of generic weapons and one of those anti swarm weapons, I forget what they're called, but they're essential if you plan to deal with the swarms of thargons. 4 gauss cannons and the swarm thingy is a good loadout on the krait for dealing with thargoids, although 2 gauss, 2 shard is probably more effective damage/resources, the heat from 4 gauss is hard to manage. Shard cannons are a separate unlock to the gauss, so more grind for those. You don't need a shield for thargoid combat, just fill up on grade 5 engineered hull reinforcements. For pvp, you need to regularly fight other humans, there is no substitute for experience. I use a wide variety of ships as you can see from the channel, but the truth is the FDL and Python mk2 are superior for pvp to any other ship, but of course, require significantly more resource management by the player to get the best out of. Again, for a ship that can do well in moderate levels of pvp that is easy to fly, the Krait mk2. The krait has such a huge capacitor for weapon and boost energy, it makes it very forgiving. Absolutely first priority should be unlocking all the local engineers and grinding for a decent stock of materials, this will take a long time, but when you build up a relationship with the factions in a local group of systems, you can get really good materials mission rewards, and then trade when you fill up, at a material trader. For combat practice, just head to a Hazardous Resource Extraction Site and start shooting wanted ships. Do not even think about pvp until every module of your ship is grade 5 engineered with appropriate special effects. Assume that everyone you meet has such a well equipped ship (though most won't, it's safer to assume it). Good luck bro. @theashenfox will do! Appreciate the well-thought out reply. I've recently began gathering materials on planets while doing biological, for the longest time I had been putting materials on the ignore list while mining. I was completely unaware of that mistake for a long time, so my mining trips didn't produce any usefulness beyond credits - but I learned when I started to do engineering again. I'm going to follow a couple guides, I bought the Mandalay to get a quick start on FSD distance, I would like to turn it into a Engineer grinder- so would that be a good option for farming mats or should I focus on cargo missions for materials instead? Dude, I wonder if I was in system when this happened! Someone was asking about who was part of a wing of 4 while I was there the other day! What's your in game name, Commander? o7!
Hey friend! These are actually the natural colours of the modifications on the railguns (no colour applied). Feedback cascade railgun secondary turns it blue, and super penetrator secondary gives yellow. The blue one cancels shield cells, the yellow one can shoot through the hull at ship sub-modules. Best of both worlds :)
@@Cheesus-Sliced It does, however, if you have say, 4 boosters on, the charge is half full, you turn 2 off, and your shield is back. You then have the choice to reactivate them and make your health pool smaller (and visually on the shield bars as you state) but gain back any resistance they offered, or leave them off and carry on. Yeh, gimballed are the kings really, fixed frags is just increasing the difficulty for no reason. One of the keys to the effectiveness of frags is landing at least 2 out of 3 shots from each volley to match PA damage, which is extremely challenging with fixed, no matter who you are! Pacifiers make up for their fixed'ness' by having a tighter spread and faster shot speed making them significantly more useful at middle ranges rather than only up close, but even so I'd still go for gimballed if I really cared about effectiveness. :)

The Mamba is 60m/s faster under boost with prismatic shielding and heavy armor, so this particular mamba would be even faster (as biweave and low armor), they could just boost away and face me at their own discretion. Well, my personal opinion is that the controller choice sets the difficulty level. Mouse - easiest. A really good joystick and throttle, medium. Joypad - hard. Having said that, one of the top players in pvp plays with a pad. Not gonna lie, most of us wonder how he does it, but there it is :)
@theashenfox I've been practicing by orbiting fast spinning asteroids today. By far the hardest thing I've done, but after 30 minutes of fumbling around it felt so good actually match the speed of the surface deposit I was using for reference
I didn't explain it very well to be fair. :) So I was out testing a buiold in a chieftain, looking for a nice fair 1v1, when this mamba in the video interdicted me with his wingmate. I didn't fancy a 1v2 in the chieftain, it's not ideal for that, so I ran back to my carrier to get teh Krait, cos the Krait does have enough effetive health to deal with 2 mediums if there's a decent skill disparity as well. I then came back and didn't even have to look for them, one of them interdicted me and got his ass kicked (first fight), then I went to find his friend, kicked his ass (second fight and to be fair, the mamba did not team up on me, he just watched, which was very noble. Right up until his friend decided to leave and then the mamba decided he would have a go (end of second fight where I chase mamba off again), then because the mamba was low health, I chased him down, I guess he couldn't high wake, so I killed him fairly quickly. :) Moral: Be careful who you interdict in Deciat :D
This video made me realise how important my shield banks are, had they had them they probably would have been able to use it to get away or continue fighting
kinda, but really what they needed to have had a chance, was the ability to cancel mine, more than having their own. The mamba had some cells, but size 4 cells (the only cells the mamba can carry if using a size 5 shield) are very weak. The krait features size 6s which are not fully cancelled by a single medium feedback hit, as size 4s and 5s are, but these guys are gankers, they didn't have any feedback along with them, just frags (actually the mamba had a huge multicannon I noticed later, sensible, but still not useful for countering a cell heavy build like mine. The chieftain is a 50-50 proposition, it's such a great hull tank, it's hard to say if a size 5 cell would be more useful at the end of the day, sometimes yes, other times no. :)
So, as a non-ED pvper, is this indicative of ED dogfighting? It look mostly like jousting. Interesting. SC, on the other hand looks to be more strafey.
Elite has a huge variety of ships, weapons and modifications for such, so you build a ship and fly it to its strengths. I prefer jousting to strafing as a general fighting style (especially in this ship, it can't furball for shit), but the top level of Elite pvp is typically very close furballing in Fer de Lances, what you would call more strafey. Here, check this vid where I get beat by someone much better than me, he's trying to keep me close where he is comfortable, and I'm trying to break out to joust. The only thing that makes us still play elite is the dogfighting model, it is still, by FAR the best space dogfighting to be had. Hope it helps. ua-cam.com/video/tG3HpytLfAc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TheAshenFox

Vids like this show me how far I’ve got to go
I only just started playing the legacy version on PlayStation, how yall people be so accurate with fixed weapons 😢
By far the hardest thing I've done, but after 30 minutes of fumbling around it felt so good actually match the speed of the surface deposit I was using for reference
how the heck can that chieftain regen his shields so fast after broken???
Cheesus Sliced had the same comment below, reply to this message if you still have any Qs. Thanks for the comment! :)
The oooooo baby was funny😂
Does the mamba seriously not have any shield cells?
Omg the chieftain too? Even a small one would be better than none
the way good pilots fly is sick, i play and im stuck doin circles w or without flight assist 😂
I'm new to elite so I don't understand a thing about what's happening here
I didn't explain it very well to be fair.
Chieften hit it self on your ship allot
Nice kill on the mamba. That's one more brainlet to the rebuy screen haha
@@theashenfox ah ok, I'm still very new so didn't know this!
Good job cmdr o7.
are you using MnK?
Sorry for ridiculously late reply, no, this is stick and throttle. :)
@@theashenfoxat least you got back to him
So, as a non-ED pvper, is this indicative of ED dogfighting?
@@theashenfox Excellent response. Thanks! I'll give the vid a watch. I will admit that I enjoy Star Citizen's fights.... but I enjoyed them much more back in 2.6 (a few years ago). With ED's 1st person mode coming soon, I will probably jump in. :)
Thanks again!
Man, I thought conflict zones were repetitive..
solid flying, clearly you fly hotas
That's right :) Thanks!! VKB Gunfighter with SCG (kosmosima) grip and a TWCS throttle.
The chieftain is a tank i hate encounter gankers that are flying it.
Ram them when their shields are down ;)
Still never know why there are gankers. They gain nothing except a fine from attacking people like that.
Because real pvpers are hard to find, and we've all fought each other hundreds of times. Nothing left to do but speedrun carebears for the shiggles. I don't seal club newbies myself, but I understand it, and anyone with a decent ship is fair game.
I had to laugh about "cmdr digga". Digga is a term that is used in northern Germany and basically means bro and it is generally used by the youth and early twen section of the wannabee cool with base caps with the size sticker left on and listening to autotuned singers. Glad you blasted them like that.
remind me to never piss this guy off, he'd prolly make quick work of my anaconda
Anacondas are a specialty. XD
@@theashenfox also the fact that I play with a 450 ping. Oof
Railgun never hits...
You mean at distance? Yeh, these are grade 4 long range, I rarely bother with g5 for the last 600m range, these go out to 5.4 instead of 6km.
Nothing impresive here, come see me bro.
Snpx get distance of gankers
This should have been a lopsided fight in the chiefs favor.. you fought an idiot and won. Krait powerplant is notoriously easy to pop
@@noneyadamnbusiness6891 lol, stop fighting npcs.
The fuck is a gonk?
It's like a gank but with an 'O' instead. :)
@@theashenfox Steal? Or, "...to steal..."? What does 'gank' mean to you?
@Inexcye Solm thanks for responding I guess. Cuz I have no fucking clue what I was even asking about anymore. Being that was a year ago that I asked.
Besides that the "word" 'gonk' was being utilized in some kinda means that I didn't understand.
@@DavidHanniganJr Super late reply, sorry, I'm sure you heard the term since then, but yeh, gank is short for gang-kill. When more than one player gangs up and kills you alone, you got ganked.
Ahh, Gank. Ok. Although I was unaware of the group/gang prerequisite.
Imagine ganking a dude in his empty hauler doing poll data delivery missions. Wtf why even bother, he's not kitted for combat and you gain nothing from killing him. What's the point. Bad game design not gonna lie.
the fact you dont sub target drives oon a chieftain makes youo bad... letting them leave is embarrassing...
