This video clearly demonstrates the mental awareness needed for knapping. Good rock, tools and master skills still require the confidence derived from practice. Thanks for sharing.
My buddy whom passed away Bout a year ago would do this all day, we hunted arrowheads several days at a time. But he crafted some artifacts then planted them, then he’d take other friends out and they would find them. I still laugh my ass off! You remind me of him! Thank you!
Man, your flakes are bigger and of better quality than most of the stones I start out with. Maybe I should stop calling my work "stone knapping" and call it "pebble knapping" instead.
Also looking at one of your other videos and you mentioned your are allergic to dogs. I can tell by looking at your hands that you don't drink enough water which can alert the histamine in your body. Drinking water is like taking a benadryl only natural.
I have watched a couple of your videos so far. I am a retired home builder and I’m heavy into woodworking and metal working.I love anything that I can do with my hands…..I have never attempted what you do but have really developed an interest after watching you. So, I am as green of a beginner as possible…. I already have a million questions. But to start with, what is the material you use for abrasion? And would it be possible to see the collection of tools you use? Thanks, Stan….. fellow Texan!
The material used for abraiding is a broken grinding wheel. I use various grits but my favorite is course grit. You can do a UA-cam search for "jack crafty tools" and take a look. I have lots of videos so they should keep you busy for a while.
Patrick if you take a moose time and drill a hole through the end and mount it with a bolt so that is swivels. Mount it at a comfortable height for you. You can take bifaces of that size and thin quickly with large flakes. The power you can generate is unreal.
I wonder if those lipped flakes occur because that convex platform is so strong it just won't break. Would the force be transferred up higher where the angle is shallower? This is another great video. I'm learning loads watching you work.

Oh dang.
Jack, I really like your videos, I'm learning a lot
Glad to hear it!
Your skill shines through no matter what tool you choose to use. Thanks for posting
Thanks for the kind words.

Hehe 😄

Send me an email.
Would it be possible to rock saw this beautiful piece and have two nice large works? I am a novice.
Yes. That's always possible. But this piece has already been made into points.
@@KnapperJackCrafty thanks!

Jesus christ don't ask these ridiculous. You can always cur things in half.

Richard, I 've been dizzy all 77 years of my life, I don't think you moving a rock around will hurt me at all.
Brilliant, very creative!!!
Thank you!
I'm not afraid of hard work, I can watch you all day. I think Kevin has a problem with it. 😅 Great information and video, thank again.
Good job on reducing jack

Can you film a demonstration so I can see?
@@KnapperJackCrafty Well I don't think I could post a video on UA-cam. I could send you pics or video in a Email. Pretty simple setup.
@@KnapperJackCrafty It just turns the moose tine into a hands free tool and allows you to strike with power. I'll try to send you some pics or video.
How come no one ever makes massive arrow heads for like a display peace. Like a 18inch one.
Because God don't make good rocks that big. Most rocks that are good for knapping are small.
What helps me is to push down on the area of mass or cortex and put it against your leg
Yeah, that's a common tactic.
Kevin knows when to leave!
Yes. he's a smarty pants.
Hey man have learned a lot from you. I'm on the Blanco River over here in Wimberley. You're in Texas right? Favorite point would have to be a Montell.
Yeah, I'm in Midland TX. I've been to Wimberly many times. Nice area. Probably getting overpopulated these days, I imagine.

Yeah, sometimes a strong platform can cause a lip fracture.
I do that a lot. Create an edge that is almost impossible to repair.
Glad I'm not alone.
is that knee stick aluminium?
Yes.
hi
ok nice vid but i must cut some grass before the heat gets here. back later for part 2.
The numbers you used on most previous videos have helped me view most of your videos. Can you number any higher? It helps.
Yes. I'll update the numbers.
ahem cough
Edge Bite
oh 1st like
your billet should have been havier,, that would give longer flake, and thus reduce the center.
This billet is the same weight as a hammerstone of the same volume.
I think this is an Achulean axe he’s not supposed to
Wait no it’s not
Dude for God's sake please. Setup platforms and drive the flakes back. Get back to basics.
Show me with a video.
@@KnapperJackCrafty I will send some links.
@@charlesg5085 just FYI: This video is 2 years old. I knap differently now.
@@KnapperJackCrafty I was just trolling. Your shit is tight.
