    Hi. I purchase the original Sena 10c when it was first launched (I still have it) and have since purchased a number of actions cameras and other Sena comms devices (Sony AS200's YI 4k+ Sena 30k's) and recently, a go pro 7 and the Sena 10c pro. Comparing the the video quality between the 10c and the 10c pro, they look very similar albeit you can now shoot 1080p60 and 1440p@30.
    The two things that were missing from my original sena 10c, was the fact you can now shoot 1080p and you now can preview a live video from a sena app to setup the orientation .
    Setting up the orientation on the original Sena 10c was a real pain, as there was no camera preview, so it was trial and error through a series of recording until the orientation was sorted.
    Comparing only video quality to my other actions cameras Sony AS200s, Yi 4k+'s Go pro 7, the Sena 10c pro is lacking and is no better than any budget action camera that cost less than £100 that shoots 1080p60.
    The Sena 10c or the newer Sena 10c pro offer great value for money for moto vlogging or recording groups rides, listen to music or make and receive phone calls, all done from a single device.
    You have to buy a Sena 10/20s or Sena 30k, a Go Pro camera, go pro mic adapter ,3.5mm stereo phone jack splitter, and 2 lava mics, which will set you back about £700- 900. to achieve the same functionality. I guess it comes down your pocket and the purpose of video content, and how invest you are in cinematography .

    I don't know why ppl always compare with a GoPro. The GoPro is an action cam. The Sena 10c Pro is an intercom, with cam. With the aim of being an intercom, and it gives you an extra with the cam. GoPro is a pure cam, and nothing else.

      Problem is it doesn't really do anything all that well. Poor video quality. Has trouble connecting to other senas like the 20s or 30k. And what ever happened to the 10c evo?

      @@MotorcyclesforTallRidersNow I dont know about that, my experience with this device (10c) is that there is no problem with other intercoms... 10c pro, well we will check that out this riding season.

      Because many use the GoPro for moto vlogs. If this had decent video quality it would be direct competition to the GoPros. Unfortunately the quality is on par with a GoPro...from about 15 years ago. Any smartphone will have better video quality than this. I think the concept is great, they could have hit a homerun with this, but the video quality is just terrible compared to what you find even in the cheapest video cams on the market. Compression, dynamic range, colors, it's just horrendous. On a plus side, the sound is very clean.

    • @Striple
      @Striple 5 років тому +4

      @@Speedytrip If you like high quality vids and you care more about your channel then riding a motorcycle, then you go for a GoPro. If riding motorcycle means everything, riding with friends, using gps, etc... and you like to post now and then on YT, the Sena is great. Like I said before, you can't compare an intercom with an action cam. They are 2 different devices. And for that money the sena gives you a lot of options

    I got the 10c pro last December and so far I'm personally happy with it on 1080p 60fps. You want the extra frames for shooting you're riding it matters more than 4k, most people watch UA-cam on phones anyway.
    I like the music mix, if you play music it mixes it into the video, this can be turned off.
    I simply find it to be the best all rounder out there, Jack of all trades master of non YET I find every aspect to it more than enough.
    I haven't messed with the gain yet but I find I can't hear my motorbike loud enough, that's a possible down side.

    Nice to see it used in UK with left driving system (as well as in Japan), since the camera itself is on the left side of the helmet as well I was curious to see whether it would be much of a trouble. Good review overall, especially thinking that for that price basically you get 2 for 1.

    Very good review, thanks.
    I’m thinking of getting the Sena 10C on the basis of your assessment, although the video image quality is slightly holding me back.
    At this late stage, I’m wondering if I’m just as well waiting for the next release/version which will probably be a further improved one and with better video image quality.
    When is that likely to be, though...?
    What do you think?
    Worth just waiting?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto 5 років тому +1

      Yes its hard to gauge, the video quality is fine if you are just using it as a 'dash cam' or for fun, when I mix it with my GoPro Hero 7 footage you can see the difference clearly. But the GoPro obviously doesn't do comms and you cant record your voice directly to it easily. I don't know if upcoming software upgrades would improve it. As its relatively new it might be a while until another version comes out I guess

    I like the fact I can use this on either of my helmets...which are already set up for the original 10C...
    Just ordered mine from Revzilla...I’ve used a 10C (original) for 2 years and really have no complaints...and I like in NW Oregon, been in some rain with NO problems...but my R1200RT has excellent wind protection so I don’t get very wet if in motion.
    I plan on using this with the RC4 handlebar remote (which worked well with the original 10C after the firmware update) so I don’t have to take my right hand off the bars to do intercom, camera, etc.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto 5 років тому

      Hi Gregg, I've not tried the remote, but it could be useful? Looking at Sena's 2019 catalogue, it looks they are introducing a +Mesh device, which will add mesh connectivity to any of their existing comms units

    • @greggsmith7191
      @greggsmith7191 5 років тому

      The RC4 handlebar remote is VERY useful...I can control intercom, camera, phone and volume without taking my hands off the bars... and it just takes a few seconds to migrate it from one bike to another.
      A firmware update this last year to the original 10C let it pair and work with the RC4...and the remote battery lasts about 6 months (it’s a small lithium CR2016).
      Thanks for the heads-up on the mesh adapter...I’ll look into that.

    Great review! I got a 10C Pro myself for Xmas. Image quality looks better as it was on 10C, but still far behind Gopro. Audio is excellent. But considering it's communicator, radio, bluetooth, wifi and camera in one device, this is pretty good deal.

      Yes I think the image quality is fine and I guess its not really fair to compare it directly to the GoPro Hero 7. If you did a side by side comparison the 10c would lose out on image quality, but would wipe the floor with the GoPro on communications and radio quality ;)

    I have the old SMH-10 headset. It can't multi-task. Riding solo, I can get map directions off of the phone. Use the phone to call, etc. BUT once the headset is paired with another headset, the navigation directions are gone and I can only hear the communication between riders. My son has the 20s, and he gets both navigation directions and rider to rider coms, seamlessly. Can this unit multi-task without having to punch buttons to switch between inputs (navigation and communication)?

It is even more compact than the session as it needs the Mic adapter which has more bugs than "i'm a celebrity". Image quality in low light is superior to the session too. I learned to slow down because one time I doing the backroad boogie in the mini and came around a corner that was a cattle crossing and I found out that cow manure and michelins have zero friction cohesion and just about did slide into a ditch, luckily I was able to stop and realized I was being an idiot and luckily no one else was harmed. As an Essex native myself I like your idea of day trips. Massive 3 week tours etc are nice visually but not that relevant unless you can blag it of course.
    No mention of video tagging Tony which I think is a nice feature?
    2 downsides;
    1) Sena force you to have the unit on the left side of the helmet - probably no real big deal if truth be told
    2) The connectors across Senas stuff are all different which is frustrating. If they made them modular you could swap between camera & pure comms dead easily. And the 10C connectors are really delicate so need to keep an eye out.
    Good review though.

      Agreed, but the Sony will take a Lav mic without the need for an adapter and if you get creative with a drill and the right size rubber grommet in the back of the waterproof casing (for the external mic cable to go through) it becomes waterproof again, enough for rain anyway. TTFN.

      I have this camera and my brother and sister in law have another Bluetooth comms system and I can only pair with one of them. This is fine unless all 3 of us go on a ride out. Once paired with either of them, the connection is remembered too so a one time job to get paired.
      What we did do when we were out together all 3 of us was to set up a WhatsApp conference call and we were all able to speak to each other that way. Not ideal, but a decent way to speak on comms and one advantage is that distance and objects don’t get in the way since you’re using the mobile network infrastructure and not the comms device Bluetooth, the downside is you’re also using your phone which eats the phone battery and means your phone is always engaged and no one can call you up.

Shame Sena don't think about power connections to the mount in addition to the module especially with something that'll drain so quickly. It's main use is after all for dashcam mode.

    I have a 10c pro myself, honestly I had high hopes for it and was completely let down like my ex girlfriend after a 3 minute sex session.
    The FM radio - There must be a problem with the antenna or something because it only picks up 50% of the known radio stations in my area (Western Australia) in the city aswell! Even when it picks up a station, it will struggle to keep constant frequency with the volume always changing as if its trying to pick up the station again. Also when locking the stations to only preselects it will sometimes randomly jump to a random station. When riding the whole quality also just goes down the toilet....The volume - Don't let the fancy volume control knob fool you. From what it looks like there are only 3-4 levels of volume and the change from the medium to high level of volume is a big jump and quite uncomfortable. It takes about 3 clicks of the knob to change it from one level to another which is quite strange.
    The battery - A pretty common fault from what I've heard in most sena products. I have this brand new unit and from fully charged it actually loses 1/4 of its charge over night from just sitting turned off! I also had this sitting for a week turned off (fully charged) and when I went to turn it on again it failed to start up. I tried to charge it for about 6-7 hours and it was still showing the red led (charging process) and wouldn't even turn on. After hitting the factory reset button (small button in the recessed hole) I managed to start it up Overall I was pretty disappointed with this whole experience, being the whole sena brand is marketing the 10c Pro as one of the best things going and the ultimate all in one unit. I will be hoping to get a refund...

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto 5 років тому

      Shame to hear that , doesn’t sound like you’ve had much luck. I personally don’t listen to music (or the radio) on the bike so I’m not concerned about the performance, although of course it should work. Mind you FM radio is notoriously fickle, a DAB system would be ace in that respect. I’v not had the battery drain issue you mention, and that might be worth talking to Sena about. There is obviously no reason for the battery to lose any charge when the device is switched off. I’m not a Sena ambassador, I’m merely reporting back on my experiences.

    If they made the picture quality better, Sena would remove GoPro from the game. The image needs to be stabilized and not so washed out. The combination package is very appealing. I thinking that most of us just want a camera for insurance reasons anyway. I would gladly do away with my GoPro to have one simple unit like the 10c Pro if they improved it again.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto 5 років тому

      Yes its getting there, but i guess if you look at what GoPro has spent in development to get the Hero 7 where it is, then that's where the difference is. I look at it as a coms unit with a camera as opposed to the other way around, so I think the quality is more than acceptable given that. If GoPro allowed Bluetooth comms connection for voice recording that would solve a lot of problems

    • @LouCFur90
      @LouCFur90 5 років тому

      Views from the Man Cave I agree. GoPro seems to have a serious desire to make decent audio inconvenient. The dash cam ability with all of the com system benefits is very appealing. But $350 is a lot for something with a camera on par with a GoPro hero 2/3. They will get there soon enough. Tbh, I don’t care who makes it, but whoever does will have the market cornered.

      I picked up a 10c Pro today in Australia for ~500 bucks. A hero 7 is ~600 bucks. $100 more expensive and it's only a camera.
