Thought watching the video would help stop me from randomly belting out 'I can't stop my leg' at inopportune moments. It only helped fuel the fire....there it goes again!

@@nuthineatholl6434 I swore I remembered this from SNL, thanks for helping me realize that I'm not totally losing it (yet). You can't find many clips from SNL, as they have the lock down on their stuff. I had to find this to send it to someone today, and knew I had seen it before HBO existed.
As a musician, I can totally identify how music makes my body move. If the vibe is right, some part of your body just moves. My brother has Alzheimers. He sits for hours just staring. If I play a military march - which he loves - he starts moving, smiling, and paying attention. It's like an on off switch. I read that music is processed by the brain on a different channel than speech or other sounds. This routine is what comedy is about - totally original. And he does more than talking about stopping it. There it goes again is great. The yea, no, perhaps is cool. The best is thank you lord for stopping my leg. It's all schtick, but it works. Isn't it great that there are people who can create this funny stuff to divert our attention from our troubles. When Woody Allen was asked what he believes in, he said "diversion". Yes, great art temporarily diverts us from the cold reality of this plane of existence. But I digress. Uh-oh! THERE IS GOES AGAIN!
2023 while scratching behind my dogs ear and watching one of his hind legs swatting at the air uncontrollably ( he was standing ) I can't stop my leg came to mind I had to see it I'd stop his leg stopped I'd start scratching again and singing " There it goes again " 😂
Thanks for this video... ever since we first saw this guy perform this song... my friend and I often just stop what we're doing and stare at each other and yell "I cain't stop my LEG!!" and crack up laughing. It's been at least 25-30 years ago now! Haha! Loved this.
Remember seeing this routine years ago and thinking this guy is a comic genius, borrowed the bit on more than one occasion. Guess we’ll need to keep checking social media to see if Klein’s been canceled yet by the silly racist commie turd burglars
Just saw him do a short form of this, as a grandpa to make his grandsons laugh, in season 2 episode 12 of The Mysteries of Laura. I came looking for a clip of that bc it was really great, & found this. Thanks for sharing it! I hadn't realized he has comedy routines on video. I didn't know he was a comedian except in that moment! It's even better in that show, the vibe from doing it for kids, or something! It's right at the beginning of the episode & streaming free right now. But this is great too! :)
This isn't the original version that first played on HBO in '79 or '80. This one is a few years later. Looks like it's from around '85 or so. It's the same routine but he did it a little bit better on the original version. I remember watching it when I was a kid and thought it was the funniest comedy routine ever. I never forgot it and I never saw it ever again either.
There was a Middleweight fighter in the '80's Michael Olajide that used to go rubber legged every time he took a punch in head. He was totally coherent but had no control over which direction his legs wanted to go or when to stop them once he was tapped on the melon. His head and upper body wanting to go one way and his legs going elsewhere as if he was split in two. This should've been his theme song.
I saw Robert do this skit on SNL back in the early '70s. Then a bit later, Carson had him on the show, where he did this performance, only better. It was a really long skit then where he tried to sing a tune before he did " I Can't Stop My Leg", and then in the bluesy part, he would get choked, and cough, ruining the song. Then he went into this skit, and it was very funny back then. just as it is today also.
Thanks for posting this! I saw it decades ago and couldn't seem to find it. Hilarious and so well done. Do you know where I could find Robert Klein doing 'The Polish blues' ( woke up this morning, put my socks on over my shoes)? I saw it on Carson originally. Hope it didn't disappear due to cancel culture.
Blind Lemon Jefferson in Callous D's vid is an actual Blues singer from much earlier, and Cheech & Chong weren't mocking him with the name Blind Melon Chitlin' but did wonder if they'd heard the name as kids & found it amusing a grown-up's nickname was Blind Lemon, & then inadvertently drawn on that source of childlike giggles. He's a respected Blues man & has an interesting story to look up. He helped form much of the standards of the genre & influenced countless musicians who follow after.
He is so funny...very brilliant. Watch him if you can in The Owl and the Pussycat starring Streisand from the 70's. He was only there for a short time but I fell on the floor watching him. His was among the last of the true comic greats that never had to utter a dirty word thinking it was funny. He is the real deal, a true artist.
As a jew with a strange sense of humor, i saw this as a child in the 70s, and thought i did not get it, so in my 50s, i watched it again, still not funny.
Still a master piece after all these years. Love it.
35 years later this song pops in my head hahaha
Mine too I'm playing it now❤
I still sing "I can't stop my leg" at the weirdest moments. Love him.
US TOO!!!
I would think you’d be singing, I can’t stop my foot.
I’m sorry, I’ll see myself out.
Me too
I have never forgotten this skit. It's friggen great!
Thought watching the video would help stop me from randomly belting out 'I can't stop my leg' at inopportune moments. It only helped fuel the fire....there it goes again!
I respond to questions from my wife by singing "Yeah yeah no no perhaps..." I'm going to miss her when she leaves me for someone who's not a weirdo.

Yes. In those stressful and awkward moments in life. "I can't stop my leggg" pops right in my head
This explains that Archer joke lmao... “Rabbert Klein”
"For the love of all that is green bring me and Rabbert to the lettuce store!"
I was just thinking of this, for some unknown reason. Had to quickly search and there it was. Classically funny.

I saw him fo this bit on an HBO comedy special decades ago when I was a kid and it still cracks me up!
Brings back memories, along with the unknown comic, etc...
Had to come back and look. He could have been a rock star with that voice.
Thanks HBO for cementing this in my head in the 70s.
The master of stand-up. Saw him countless times and never was disappointed. His first couple of albums are classics.

I just always rembered seeing this on HBO as a kid

Like others have confessed (and the reason I wanted to see the routine again) is I still find myself singing "I can't stop my leg"
Thanks for posting this. I saw him do this bit live, as part of a college show in the late 1970s, and it was not his closer but it was a show-stopper.
Takes me back to when I had to sneak and watch late tv while my grand parents sleep

Saturday Night Live. It was the best version

Classic! He sung it to me in Spanish on a film Set.

i remember watching this special....itI occasionally make references was either the very late 70s (like 78-79), or early early 80s (80-81) hilarious.
Best part: "There is goes again!"
I love this .
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I think it was from a HBO comedy special c. 1980. I may have it on an old VHS tape somewhere.
Haven't seen this in years 😎
Love it
1975- HBO special. He did this same schtick many times on many different shows.

Omg lol its fine but she really be like dat tho XDDDD
Still hilarious
I sing this randomly once and blue moon and no one gets my reference.
I remember seeing this back in the 70s. I thought it was VERY funny---seeing/hearing a white guy sound like a black guy, sing the blues.
Not just a white guy. A JEWISH guy!
My dad will not stop singing this. Help XD
one DAMN FUNNY routine!
Chong did a bit about a blues singer (blind lemon ...) that had a leg tapping bit worked into the punch line.
I think that was " Blind Mellon Chitlins" if I recall it correctly.
i remember that ...so i googled ....ua-cam.com/video/ZkjqEX_D9-Y/v-deo.html

Yeah Lord, Yeah Lord , perhaps! Guy was wild!
