I feel for Jeff, his clip highlights how dangerous "smart" motorways can be. Many a time I've had an HGV 3mm off my back bumper because I drop to 50 when the signs dictate it. The locals have an encyclopedic knowledge of where the cameras are so only abide by the limit for that gantry leaving you like a rolling road block.
Also, brake checking needs to be punished far more severely to try and stamp it out. Preferably with the culprits losing their licence for a long time. What is the mindset anyway? "I'll show you who's boss by stamping on the brakes" followed 5 seconds later by "WTF?! YOU HIT ME". Well.... Who's fault is that then?

    • @bravo2966
      @bravo2966 Рік тому +1

If everyone followed the rules they wouldn't be dangerous at all. You could say that about any highway regulation, they're ALL dangerous if 90% of people completely ignore it. 'Red lights are dangerous because people stop at them'. If lanes are closed and the remaining lane is at a 40mph limit (legally enforceable as it has a red ring round it - so those people thinking it's not enforceable are greatly mistaken), then you should drive in the remaining lane at a limit of 40mph.
The people complaining they do it too early, are the same people that cause them to be done too early because they're not complying with it. Same with the speeders complaining limits are too low, they're that low because of how many people exceed them.

You should always follow the instructions and rules of the road (in this case there were roadworks), but those in charge of these overhead gantry restrictions should make sure they are consistent. It’s common in the uk - owning the road, or poor perception of risk.
The bike begins overtake when the car is doing 13mph and the car maxed out at 22mph, so unlikely speeding bike.
There appears to be a school there, but closed (or inactive entrance). The chevrons are not enclosed within a solid line. Perfectly legal overtake. Yet the car starts a potential road rage situation.
It’s actually good practice for bikes to overtake at slow situations like that, as they’ll typically nip past easily before reaching the speed limit; just have to be careful of the gritty middle part of the road near the islands.

I've watched this channel for years, and this is the first week I am genuinely terrified...
Not of the clips, but the number of people saying Jeff @7.45 is in the wrong.
Yellow arrows say to pull over as soon as safe to do so. Jeff had. The speed limit is a limit, not a target. So he may have been doing 40mph in the 50, and 30mph in the 40... But that is ALSO safe Never EVER pass under a red X. EVER!!! (unless told to so by a police of traffic officer)
The number of comments on here saying anything other than that is a terrifying example of how many people there are willing to break those rules, and become an accident themselves in the future!

Haven't noticed any comments aimed at Jeff yet but I would say that doing 10mph slower than the rest of the traffic flow can be just as dangerous as going 10mph faster.
Safest way to drive is be predictable so if the motorway is a 70 limit try to drive close to that speed if safe to do so.

Nope. The old "tell tale" of seeing if your lights were on (checking to see if your dash was lit up) is now redundant. Most cars are lit up like a bloody iPad.
Not to mention, DRLs that only illuminate the front of the car is a recipe for disaster when it's misty or foggy, especially with numpties behind the wheel.

@@Silverbullet767 That was nothing like a crash for cash scenario. The other car didn't pull into a small gap in front of the cammer and then jam on the brakes for a staged scenario. The cammer was driving a little too close, but even inthis case, if the cammer was alert, it should have been possible to stop in the (just under) 2 second gap, but I saw little sign that there was even an attempt at braking. Indeed, quite the reverse because he dashcam shows the car travelling at 28 mph when the car in front braked and it was showing 30 mph at the point of impact. In other words, there was no sign of braking at all either on the dashcam or the attitude of the car (the nose did not dive).
Almost certainly the cammer was distracted by something as, from what I can see, he/she ploughed straight into the back of the car in front with unabaited speed.

The clip from Jeff is a perfect example of why I can't wait for all the gantry cameras to get the upgrade to catch those who ignore the lane closures as well as the speed limit. A double hit of penalties for those who speed on through may convince them to follow the rules in future.
That shunt at 10:18, not only too close for the speed, but watching the GPS readout, a complete lack of attention. There seems to be no attempt to change speed until the impact does it for the driver. Almost certainly worth a WDC. Seems to be the same for the follwing clip, the driver of blue figured they would be able to make it onto the roundabout and didn't watch the vehicle in front.
Hey, there is a thought. Imagine if insurance companies started submitting clips they receive to the police. They could make a lot of money from increased premiums from drivers with convictions.

if you look back at the video at 8:12 mark you can clearly see Jeff applies the brakes. You can see the red lights reflect of the car number plates behind him. Why is he brake checking? To me that’s careless driving and for that reason alone can land him in trouble. He braked and slowed his vehicle down way below the 40 sign causing danger to cars behind him. He did not need to brake at all. He slowed down so much after that, that cars then was undertaking him due to his lower speed
