@@TomWithVolvos hi, yes I do! Unusual for me to keep a car this long but it ticks a lot of boxes for me. It's been fab, no issues. I suppose it gets a fairly easy life. I live on an island and use a VW up for pottering about here and keep the Passat for longer runs on the mainland or carrying stuff and people. Apart from the stainless exhaust it's standard. No mods. If I'd change anything it would be the headlights, which are crap. I don't like the steering wheel much. Satnav and a bigger screen would be good, so would a rear wiper. Over all though I'm very happy with it. Fast enough for me, very rare up here in Scotland and not too bad running costs. Bit of rust appearing on front wings but they're bolt on, so I'll just leave it till it's bad then get new ones. The rest of body is galvanized, I think. Still really enjoy it.

Great job!! It is the car of my dreams! I hope that in the future I can have one. My parents have version 2.0 TDI Variant DSG and I have always found it beautiful. Keep it goin!! :D
In my opinion anything that came with a VR or W engine was good quality. The 2.0R was the killer of the desire for the 6 pot. I’d have loved them to do a modern version 😂 Will shout out Malika Motorsport hope I’ve spelt that right. They have a modern RS3 chassis and have put a VR6 engine and mated it to a modern or the 5 pot DQ500 gearbox. It’s something worth watching and in my humble opinion them lads should be proud of what they have done
@@ThreePedalGarage I’d like a modern fresh off the press VR6 24v turbo with a manual or a fresh modern dsg box geared for that engine. People are bolting them together and making it work. Would piss all over the I5 or T5/ Cummins engine 🤷🏻♂️
I own a 2008 R36 wagon (personal car). My work car is a 2020 Subaru Levorg STI - it’s lovely and quick. But I’d still take my 13yr old R36 any day of the week for speed, fun, comfort and ‘drive’. It’s the car Batman would have if he had a family…😝
I miss my R36! Had to sell it to go to uni. Another common issue with these cars are the DSG units, although it's upgraded from the regular ones, it was still one of VW's "early" DSGs. Can't wait until I can find another one in decent shape. Good video mate!

I really enjoyed ur video but I couldn't find the answer I'm looking I'm a owner of 3.6 vr6 Cayenne is it completely same engine with the one in Passat 3.6 or the one in R36 models?
To be honest I am not sure. But I have heard the cayenne motor is similar to the motors in the so email Passat. The R36 motor is fully forged. I could be wrong though
Pretty hard to watch, your script reading was a bit all over the place and jerky! But good content. R36 here in New Zealand is not common, but they are available. I got my 2009 R36 Variant for about $13K NZD, 100K km.
It’s similar the the engine found in the golfs. Ya I just didn’t have time to talk all models. Just tired to pick out cool one off things. I talked about them in my GTI video
Nice vid! We got the R36 here in Australia, but I own a Mk5 Golf R32. I really really want to buy a 36 motor and drop it into the golf though, because 50HP is so tempting.
Great page mate now about my passat r model. First of all my one is not an R36 but a DTI 2010 R passat . Its a New Zealand delivery but now its in Australia and the only one here only payed $6500 compared to the R36 $9000 to $19000 depending on condition.
Andrew, for those looking for the R36, Murica did get it in a lot of cars. With the last one being at least 2018 rated at 280hp like most of them. It was also reintroduced in Europe in the 3rd gen Touareg, maybe the Q7 and Cayenne pepper 🌶️ as well. It can be found in the Eos, Passat, Phaeton, Atlas and Touareg. As well as the Cayenne and Q7. The Passat R had 15hp more. A generic R36 tune will set the rev limiter to 7,000rpm making 310hp. Obviously you can go much much further with a Rotrex supercharger, turbo, and so on. The dag nabbit yer ropians are pushing 1500hp out of them and climbing.
These aren't common in Australia, but you can just buy one haha. Someone is always selling one. Its a really cool car, lots to maintain and i wish it came in manual as i prefer that over DSG but its very quick. Just got a Super sprint catback on mine 👌
@@ThreePedalGarage i was in the same boat except nobody makes RHD headers :( I got the supersprint used for a reasonable price considering the cost of it new, i do want to get custom headers made and will possibly get a group buy (for Australia) at some point if i get enough numbers. The issue with custom is you'll never know how it sounds until you get it, the supersprint is expensive but it's also stainless and you know it'll sound good.
But this is all on hold til i get the chain done. Its -3 degrees for both currently and is "fine", however it makes some noise which suggests that the guides are worn. 180k so its expected.
Honestly not to sure you will have to buy the car and then pay for the shipping to Namibia. I’m sure they also have some taxes you will have to pay at the ports to get the car into the country. I would talk to a importer to see what they say.
@@ThreePedalGarage Hi Andrew thanks for that friend jah i would like to know whats the cost from there to Namibia for that r36 than i'll check the exchange rate to namibian dollar, you dont now how long will such a deal take to namibia, you dont have a few photos thats for sale that side..
@@ernstjansen2040 so I’m in the United States we do not have the R36 here you would have to get the car from Germany and ship to you you would probably pay around 15,000 Euros for the car and the 2,000 to 3,000 euros to ship to you. Then you will have to pay import fees and any duty taxes which I’m not sure what they will be on your country. Just estimate maybe 10-15% of the purchase price of thencar
i noticed in the history portion you mentioned that the performance models of the b7 was called the “r line”, but there was a performance model of the b7 passat called the passat gt. it had a 3.6L vr6 and although it was fwd, it was still a great car
Ya they did have the GT it was very similar to the R line the R line just had more interior upgrades. At lest from what I can remember. The 3.6 L VR6 is also a built a little different then the R36 motor. The R36 motor has a forged crank from factory while all the other 3.6 VR6 did not.
Caio Espinosa your best bet would be to try and buy one off the internet and ship it to your country. Maybe try eBay or something similar. We never got the car in the US either so we don’t have any parts for the car. Best of luck!
Andrew Wenman I appreciate the return, I already searched on eBay I bought 90% of the parts there, but I can't find the panel anywhere The last option would be to bring it via VW Brasil
I have Volkswagen CC with this same 3.6 300HP engine. Its great, and I think its even much better than passat cuz it's Coupé :) its something like Audi A6 vs A7 (Passat vs CC). I think its best sounding engine I ever heard
It’s an amazing sounding engine! The 3.6 is a beautiful setup! I wish we got the R36 spec motor here in the US they are a little different then the normal 3.6
I also own a 3.6 Passat CC, the 300hp BWS is an amazing engine to drive. Sound is intoxicating. I love the looks, but the interior in mine (2009 model) has some quality issues - it is of the rattling kind. Seats are fantastic for a longer-distance drive. Oh, and mine is a higher-mileage car that apparently has never had any DSG or Haldex-issues (knock on wood), due to regularly having them serviced. Car has about 240 000 km (like 150k miles) on it now. Timing chain has been done once.
5min 10. The wheels are they rotiform rse?. They seem very concacaved. Also good content learnt a nice bit of vw history. Also thats the car at 8:07 it sure doesn't look the the passat shown the tail lights look different
At 5:10 those are BBS RSII Super concaved very rare wheels and hard to find. The next part that is a b6 Passat with the b7 facelift on it. It’s a us spec Passat 3.6
Nice job and great content! Thanks for doing a video on R36. When you get the chance you should do a video on all things vr6 swap. Lots of rich content and following there. 🙌👏
Current plan: - Acquire R36 engine - Stuff it into my 4motion Bora (mk4 Jetta for the NA peeps) - Strap 1 or 2 turbos to it - Aim for a MegaWatt at the wheels.
the prices of the R36s in europe makes me feel a bit better about my 2011 3.6L CC which i got for AU$11,500. it's pretty much the running gear of the R36 but with the sleeker CC body so it's plenty fast. I believe the 0-60 is closer to that of the wagon R36 though.
The engine I heard is a little different like the R36 has a forged crank while the non R36 cars have a cast crank. But other then that yep they are the same lol. So ya you got a good deal
Kilovw Dude the VR6 is a solid motor man honestly you really don’t have much to worry about. Just make sure the timing chains are done if they have 120k or more on the motor and check to see if the motor needs a carbon cleaning.
I love r36 but the engine is too big it eats soo much haha but I’ve always dreamt for powerful car is this car good for daily using you people who have such a big engine would you recomend it? and how much does it drinks?
the r36 is not a cheap car to own. it loves fuel 20 miles to the gallon and with a nos kit it does 4 miles to the gallon. in uk there are £7.500 to £10.000
Your vid is perfect. you have done an amazing research I think or maby taken it from another. That's my only thing I'm disturbed about. You sound like you struggle whit reading and telling at same time. Good info but I don't feel reliability of buying a R38 after this.
So I have a reading disability and it was very hard to adjust to reading while on camera. It took some time but I have gotten better at it. This was my second video I ever made. All the information for this video has come from hours of research looking through press releases, talking with other R36 owners and knowing VR6 knowledge. I have owned 3 different VR6 powered cars over 10 years and have learned a lot from VW tec, other enthusiasts, and doing my own research.
@@ThreePedalGarage Yeah but the problem is horrible. Everything is falling apart on these cars thanks to rust, I lost both my mufflers at a redlight.. they rusted straight off. I know several owners who had to REPLACE both doors and trunks...it's a nightmare. But damn I love it anyways lol.
As far as I can tell my 08 Passat VR6 4Motion Wagon Sport is like a step down from the R36... I dont have the DSG transmission or the same sport seats but my car has the same engine, brakes and AWD system...even though I've owned it for over a year I haven't did much research on it.
I also seen on Autotrader a R Design 08 Passat Wagon that was FWD with a 6 speed manual during the same time i bought my wagon....i didn't buy it because im in Florida and that car was in New York.
Thank you Andrew for that nice review. I'm a Passat fan and I have two, a 2008 Kormfort and 2017 SE. I didn't trade my 2008 in when I bought my 2017 SE. I heard that Volkswagen is going stop production on the Passat in North America because of a sales slump! People buy the SUVs much more than the sadans!
@@ronaldboykin9755 sadly nope. The R36 was never sold in North America. You can only buy the Passat with a 3.6 vr6 but it doesn’t have any of the R36 goodies.
10:10 No R36 in the US until 2032? Did you mean to say 2022? VW might as well never introduce the R36 to US soil. In a few years, the US auto industry will change so drastically because of EVs that the R36 will not have a sufficiently profitable market in the US. Nearly everything discussed in this video reminds me why my 2004 2.8L 24v GTI VR6 is an irreplaceable treasure. Normally aspirated, fuel injected (not direct injected), reliable, no aftermarket mods, maintained in factory-like (installed better quality aftermarket prats that perform like OEM) condition. Theres one or two little rust spots starting to appear and its quite thirsty when you drive it quickly. Im hoping to keep it for a good few years.
Allosaurus Fragilis that’s amazing man! Great to hear you are enjoying the car! I wish we got the R36 in the US I’d totally have one
@@ThreePedalGarage still got it! Just had it machine buffed and cleaned up. Looks nice. No issues still, touch wood.
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 u still got it?
And did u do any mods to it
@@TomWithVolvos hi, yes I do!

Info is on point. VR6 is what made me love VW with my first a red 98 Jetta glx VR6 and my tenth a red 2013 CC VR6 4motion 😆 had (5) VR6 (3) and (2) 2.0T. Looking for a EOS VR6 for a second car for next spring and summer and use the VR6 CC 4Motion for fall and winter. Again great video
Your Mobile Barber thank you man love you hear how other enthusiasts got into the VR6 platform! Hopefully VW see that people still want them and bring them back lol sadly I know they won’t lol
Andrew Wenman you right sadly they won’t 😔
People forget about the CC 3.6L 4Motion. Just no DSG in mine. I have a 2015 CC Executive 4Motion.
@@rkhobani it a great car. Unfortunately mine got stolen by a Machanic. Long story but found a2016 Passat vr6 SEL premium with DSG FWD. missing the 4motion
For reference, the VR3.6 has a forged cranked too. I just had it polished and have rebuilt dozens of VRs. The U.S. NA crank is forged.
Really? I have talked to a bunch of 3.6 owners here and they all have said they are not forged cranks. People have said that the only forged crank we got was in the mk4 R32. I could be wrong.
@@ThreePedalGarageyeah, they're forged.
I'm about to buy the interior and put it in my 2016 cc vr6 4motion executive.

I hope one day we all can get it. Only time will tell
In my opinion anything that came with a VR or W engine was good quality.
The 2.0R was the killer of the desire for the 6 pot. I’d have loved them to do a modern version 😂
Will shout out Malika Motorsport hope I’ve spelt that right. They have a modern RS3 chassis and have put a VR6 engine and mated it to a modern or the 5 pot DQ500 gearbox. It’s something worth watching and in my humble opinion them lads should be proud of what they have done

I’d like a modern fresh off the press VR6 24v turbo with a manual or a fresh modern dsg box geared for that engine. People are bolting them together and making it work. Would piss all over the I5 or T5/ Cummins engine 🤷🏻♂️
@@kinglouiesshed8995 ya I agree! It would be cool if they put the 2.5 VR6T engine that is in China into a Golf for the hell of it

Hahahaha yep I agree with you! It’s a solid car and I wish we had them in the US
I miss my R36! Had to sell it to go to uni. Another common issue with these cars are the DSG units, although it's upgraded from the regular ones, it was still one of VW's "early" DSGs. Can't wait until I can find another one in decent shape. Good video mate!

Ive got an r36 saloon. Must be quite rare, here in uk, cos ive never seen another, which i quite like. Ive had a couple of petrolheads notice but nobody else, which suits me. Its fairly quick, decent handing, comy and practical, as its a passat. Big boot. (Trunk) Getting old now but i want to keep it. Sound nice and also potters about in top if you are cruising, plenty of torque. Not too bad on fuel but i do low miles. I paid too much for a low miler but dont regret it.
Allosaurus Fragilis that’s awesome! Ya I wish we got them in the US would have been really cool?
Ya I’ve been working on that. But lucky that you were able to get one. We never got them here in the US.
awsome video
Thank you! Glade you enjoyed it!
Yeah last one was 2018 with the Passat gt. Closest to the r36 I’d say minus it being fwd compared to awd
That’s going to be lots of fun!
You missed talking about the 2018 passat gt :/
The point of the video is to focus on the R36 not really talking about to many other passats beside just laying a foundation for the R36
I had a 2WD VR6 Passat sedan fwd. I really miss it
Sounds like it was a fun car!
How the crank from r32 it’s forged or cast?
@@djlai4099 mk4 R32 are forged VW cheeped out on my MK5. The mk5 are cast

Nice vid! We got the R36 here in Australia, but I own a Mk5 Golf R32. I really really want to buy a 36 motor and drop it into the golf though, because 50HP is so tempting.
Ya man! The R36 is a beautiful car and the engine is the most powerful VR6 built by VW! It would be pretty sweet to have a golf R36!
Great commentary!
Thank you! Been working on it. Still have room to improve but it’s getting there for sure!
Damnn one of my dream car
They are beautiful cars!!
Great page mate now about my passat r model. First of all my one is not an R36 but a DTI 2010 R passat . Its a New Zealand delivery but now its in Australia and the only one here only payed $6500 compared to the R36 $9000 to $19000 depending on condition.
ggs071 since it’s a DTI what motor does it have?? It sounds like a pretty cool car!
That’s really cool! I’m looking at getting an exhaust for my R32. Debating between a custom exhaust or and super sprint with headers.
@@ThreePedalGarage i was in the same boat except nobody makes RHD headers :(
I got the supersprint used for a reasonable price considering the cost of it new, i do want to get custom headers made and will possibly get a group buy (for Australia) at some point if i get enough numbers.
Hi how much will it cost me to get the passat r3.6 to Namibia
It also has a different body kit called Hi-Def

It's more like the A4 vs A5, but with the TT/A3 awd system.

So I have a reading disability and it was very hard to adjust to reading while on camera. It took some time but I have gotten better at it. This was my second video I ever made. All the information for this video has come from hours of research looking through press releases, talking with other R36 owners and knowing VR6 knowledge. Danny Leimberger nope 2032. You can’t import a car that was not built for the US market until the import band is up and that is a 25 year limit.
