It's funny thinking now in hindsight after they did this that when they say "They would give up on someone within a week if waht happens to Cena happened to someone else" and here you have Roman Reigns proving mugs wrong lol.
I do believe though Rey was going to be pushed toward a big world title feud with Eddie maybe even win it by SummerSlam 2006. Yeah he won it at WrestleMania because of Eddie's death but I think even if Eddie would have lived they would have renewed their summer rivalry from the year prior in 2006. If you remember how the Eddie vs. Batista Nio Mercy match was set up with Palmer Cannon going behind Teddy Long's back and giving Eddie the title shot that was supposed to be Rey's. Rey had some good momentum going that fall was really becoming a main event talent but people seem to forget this because of how he was pushed for Mania 22. He was about to be a star anyway, they ended up speeding up the process and Vince McMahon stopped caring.
The sad thing was about 6 months before this they had a ready made feud with Christian and Cena. Christian was legit getting over with the fans talking smack about Cena who was on the opposite brand. But Vince didn’t see Christian as a main eventer and shipped him off to smackdown. Damn shame!!
I think another reason Cena got his mega push was of the business decline from 2002-2005. As everyone likes to point out now, those years were dreadful because the shine of the attitude era was gone. But I think Vince attributed to the lack of baby face power. Who were the biggest names and draws at the time. Triple H and Brock Lesnar. 2 monster heels. And I think Vince attributed the decline in business to there being no dominant baby faces. So he decides to make a new Hulk Hoagn and give that person the biggest push of all time and defeat the evil heels. That failed
Triple h was not a draw at the time if anything he was a ratings killer because whenever I talk to anyone who doesn't watch wrestling anymore they say it's because of triple h title run from the early 2000's I always watched smackdown back then and if anyone was a draw on smackdown during Brock time it was between angle taker and Lesnar all together Lesnar was never a real draw the smackdown six as a whole were draws at that time
Ric flair taking a huge bump in ladder match is my favourite part of that wm. that's who I would have had win. Ya I know rvd, ecw revival, blah blah blah, fuck that. How bout Ric flair John Cena for the title at some point in 06. Crazy right???
Luger just didn't have the skills to be the next Hogan. Its true though that the character was completely wrong for him. I'm pleased that Ray got the title and big push. Its just a shame the way it was handled and the end of his reign. Great talent though.
I rmr this the place went crazy and boo da fuck outta cena way worst then they did Roman at WM32. Times just change ppl hating to hulk hogan like babyface. Ppl want someone with edge and not the feel of someone been " PUSHED" should feel more organic
KingOfStrongStyle Edge popped an initial rating in 06, but he was never the long term draw Cena was. Cena got booed because he wasn't seen as cool as some of the Attitude Era guys he was beating but the Cena fans out voted the Cena haters with their wallets.
"If they did to Cena or someone like him like they did back then, they'd give up on him in a week!"
DAH DUN
DAH DUN
DAH DUN
DUN. DUN.
4 months late but i thought the exact fucking thing.
LMAO
I scrolled down to make this exact comment 4 years later.
@@AntediluvianInternetEntity I admire your studiousness.

Chris Arctor two years later, still as true as it was then
@@efs120 Smarks always thinking short term never long term
Now reigns is the top guy in the business

GREAT post.

Andrew Burrows then went to TNA and looked legit there winning the world title twice
He wasn’t. Deal with it. Also your precious Jericho played politics and had Christian not wrestle Cena.
@Kam Fisher Thank you! Imagine Christian headlining lmaooo. Not in any lifetime
Shame they didn't get around to talking about Mickie vs. Trish; that match was amazing.
I loved that feud. They should have mentioned it for sure.
Sex, drama, and wrestling, ya that feud was fucking awesome
John Cena vs HHH at Wrestlemania 22 was one of the most entertaining matches I have ever seen. It is so memorable and I was devastated that HHH lost.
WM22 was the worst WWE crowd reaction Cena ever got (One Night Stand was an ECW crowd). And it's funny because his match with Triple H was really good
That and Money in the Bank 2011 ironically in the same arena.
John Cena was getting booed in New Years Revolution was very bad it noticed it but when he faced Angle he was booed
LOVE the Foley v. Edge match. Greatness.
Chris Arctor the last great legit Hardcore match
2:30 - lollllllllllllllll
2:25 3 years later here comes roman reigns..

If it was anybody else, they would be outta of there, UNLESS YOUR ROMAN REIGNS

MMA killed wrestlings popularity
Bad writing, bad booking, and the real dagger the internet fanbase killed wrestling
2:25 completely disagree because look what happened with Roman reigns. All they do is "double down"
