Finding Lost Theaters of Portland (Part One)

  • This is one of the last set of videos I produced for my old Amateur Historian channel. It was something that took 6 or 7 different trips to get them (and I still missed a few), but in this two part video I visit a bunch of old theater buildings (only a couple of which still function as theaters) that still exist. And I made a point to scope out the somewhat lesser known theaters. I wasn't chasing after the Aladdin or the Bagdad or the Laurelhurst... but rather the more obscure, hard to find ones. Some of these places you may be surprised were once movie theaters.

    In 1984 the Bob White Theatre was called the "Rock Palace", a short-lived concert venue. I saw (the band) Slayer there in1984, for 5 bucks!

    You should do a location finding for all old Piggly Wiggly's in Portland, there was one on SE Bybee and Milwaukie in Sellwood, there's a picture of it hanging up in the Sellwood Post Office

    In the early 1960's my brother and i were regulars at the Crest and the Lombard theaters in north portland for monster movies 👍

    Dekum theater was the fire house beforehand it was relocated to where you posted definitely! In no way I’m trying to rag or disrespect! I just thought you’d like to know that as well btw love your channel keep it up
