Yup! Just a normal Sunday for us. Most, if not all, FM radio stations has this kind of programming every Sunday. They play throwback songs and that's mostly country, folk, and mixed with some old rock music (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones etc...). Not to mention some old AM radio stations, I think some of them still play this kind of music on a daily basis.
In the Cordilleras, we have this thing called "Igorot Country Sound." Cordillerans love country song so much. We also love "cowboy" culture. I think that is the biggest western we adopted, while the lowlands adopted the most Spanish influence.
We Filipinos have the most flexible tongues, the most versatile singers in the world,a chameleon, adjustables and can easily get to sing no matter what kind, languages and end genre it might be,even the small kids can do it better, that's a God given most prescious Gift to us❤❤❤❤❤
why are filipinos good in country? hmm. let me check. wake up to heavy metal in the morning. shift to alternative rock an hour after that while having my breakfast and segue to radio that plays all kinds of music while driving to work. have the same music in the background while at work. country around 4 to mellow down. alternative rock music driving home. then classical music (beethoven, vivaldi or brahms) just before turning in. eclectic? hell yeah! no wonder that in any videoke/karaoke sessions, you have bts, taylor swift then beatles, elvis, eagles, bieber and sinatra in the request slips for one table.🙃
its all around everyday, every emotion, breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks again, dinner, snacks again, night life, sleep. all of that we play different music.
i grew up in Isabela, a province in the Northern Luzon, where we both wake up from the blasting sound of country music from one neighbors speaker to another along with the clucking chickens, my grandma and mom both play instruments and they love playing Dolly Parton, Lucinda Williams, Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, Jean Shepard, Elvis you name it.. country music is an anthem specially on Sundays, Rock songs on a monday, Love songs on tuesdays, Jazz on Wednesdays, The blues by Thurdays, Reggae comes friday, Saturdays either OPM or acoustics.. and STILL, here i am, part of the 10% of the Filipino population who can't sing unless inside the shower LOL..
From Negros Oriental here and yes I agree to this as well. I grew up listening to american and british songs. For american country or folk music, my papa has albums from bands and solos: The Eagles, Americas, Kenny Rogers, Simon and Garfunkel, Don Mclean, John Denver, Peter/Paul&Mary, James Taylor, Jim Crose, Bob Dylan and many many more. Other albums: The carpenters, Letterman, Mamas and Papas, Bread, Beatles, Queen, so much more. Ooh, the influence of american and british music to us in the old days. Amazing! My childhood, basically. 😊

I was born and raised in Baguio City and this is the normal music in our household. As a teen growing, we were listening to rock, hiphop, R&B but my dad always switched the FM radio channel to Baguio Country Music Channel (Magic 99.9) and always tell us that country is the real music that never fade. He used to play guitar and sing like that too. And so when I reached adulthood I appreciate country music very much especially pop country as they call it.
In Cordillera region, north of Philippines, country music is our faaaaavvvoorrite!! T'was americans who introduced to us highland peoples 😊 Like every drivers would blast songs while travelling the Halsema road😁
Those songs are regulars in Karaoke Song books thus Filipinos, being lovers of Karaoke singing, are famiar of those songs. Also, those songs are played on radio stations especially on Sundays. I got sentimental in the "Don't Cry Joni" cover as that was one of my late Mother's favorite songs.
As a Filipino, I am hearing country songs like Kenny Rogers, Carpenters, Bee Gees, The Hollies, among others. Yeah, it is sang in karaoke. Hahahahaah A lot songs on it. Hehehwhw
@proffiesloth that's novelty song and some are abuchikik, totoy bibo and song of Willie villame though have funny sounds and lytics but it's way of people to enjoy music in rural provinces and to add in its also a key to educate our kids to dance with the songs.
I was born and grew up in Malabang, Lanao del Sur , Philippines in 1965. I remember in early '70s, music like waltz, that of mantovani, christmas by Ray Conniff (and many others) and of course country songs were already introduced in my family especially when we got our phonograph. When our first cassette tape arrived, i think it was in 1972, we learned to sing with the music... John Denver was a favorite... (What makes it interesting is the location of my hometown where and when these songs were introduced)
I live in Bukidnon, and we grew up listening to country or classic music on the radio every Sunday. Even today, most radio stations in Bukidnon still play old hits, throwback tunes, or country music every Sunday. Listening to the radio is still commonly practiced.

We, filipinos appreciated any kind of music. It started when they are young. Multi culture or races we have but when it comes to music we are united as one.
We call it sunday's best. where our parents or grandparents will play old school songs in the radio while doing chores specially doing laundry in the mornings. So nostalgic.

In my case, I can always hear Country music every Sunday morning while preparing to go to church because that's the kind of songs that were being played on radio stations.
Yes, we used to listen to every genre. There's this thing in the Philippines where every sunday all the music they played in the radio was from 60's to 90's from western music, American, Uk, and also local music.
Rock and country music was and is popular here in the province of Benguet, and all of the Cordillera Administrative Region. Cowboy Movies, outfits and songs are imitated here. They have the hat, the boots and the leather jackets lol. A lot of bands even right now are mostly country music. Even in the bars. So yeah. We also have some country songs translated to our vernacular language 😅
Every genre of music has a radio station playing those type of music. from Country, Folk, Rock Pop, New Wave, Electronic Pop, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Ballad, RNB, Jazz, Trance, Techno, Dance Music and everything.
Grew up listening to a lot of the classics whether jazz, country, ballad, rock etc every sunday. My grandparents like to listen to these songs really loud. 😅
growing up in the Philippines i remember the only thing my parents can afford was the casette with the multiplex and those are the collections of ABBA, CCR, Tom Jones, Simon & Garfunkel, BeeGees, Beatles, The Animals, Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers and the likes... basically the country, country rock or whatever you call it that was popular in the 80s... i guess coz at that time there were american bases so influence they brought might be one of the reason
I remember back in the 70s, the 80s, and even in the early 90s, there were a number of bars in the Philippines where they played a lot of folk and country music. Singers like John Denver, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton were big back then. Country music would get its airtime on the radio usually after lunch on weekends when people had their siesta time.
Kenny Rogers was actually big here back in the 70s most especially in the provinces, like in my place in Leyte. Blues was also a huge thing, most especially with Aretha Franklin.
every sunday the radio station plays the country music and old songs from 70"s, 80"s. This songs are also in the Karaokies that's why We Filipino's knows this songs.
Music is/was/were a big part on our curriculum. We studied it from the momment we step in the classroom. We sung Children song, Religious song, Folk songs, and many more. Then Primary to Secondary we studied local, national and international music. Plus everything we hangout we went to Videoke/Karaoke/Sing Along whatever you wanna call it either in friends house, a Carenderia, Videoke house, street or bar whenever wherever; in short Music is life and we live on it. And lastly our Radio stations are full of schedules; some stations play mainly rock, some are mellow, some mixed POP, RnB, Alternative, and more. Then on Sundays are mostly like this; Old country music, Classic, etc. Everything we tacle depends what type of person you are. we all have a station to choose from. Enjoy and feel the beat for everyone to enjoy. Have a nice day Waleska and Efra
I grew up in Baguio and country music was EVERYTHING 😂😂😂 Our family karaoke is def full of country music. The best thing is... The filipino accent comes back after singing 😂😂😂. P.S. The Americans did stay in the Philippines for years lol 😅

Herding cattles and goats, riding horses..so much country feels. Most provinces here love country misic, they even have rodeo shows/contest. Since in provinces they have farms, local cowboys and dont forget the cowboy hats hehe😊
born 1976 and yes country music is part of the music genre we grew up with ❤❤❤ I had to go back to this video because I think one reason why country music became popular is that in the 70's and 80's, so many young Filipinos were interested in playing the guitar so we buy "Song Hits", a magazine of songs which includes guitar chords as learning guides and most of them will have country songs ❤ so we learn basic guitar chords derived from country music and naturally we fell in love with the melody and rhythm of country music
Filipinos know A LOT of country music 😊 Back when John Denver was famous there would be singing contests imitating him. Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers are famous in the Philippine. It is a staple in the karaoke. We have the Kenny Rogers fast food restsurants 😊 Back in the day... 60's and 70's, I think, when "cowboy stuff" were popular, it was also popular in the Philippines 😊
I'm born year 1999. I remember growing up there's always music going in the house from Kenny Rogers, The Beattles, Chicago, Carperters, Journey, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, and all those great musics that made me love music itself. At some point I even started experementing to listening to different genre of music by myself and fell inlove with classical. It's just so amazing how music is so integrated in our everyday life and there's a genre for anyone and everyone. No one excluded.
Pinoys love Listening to Radio everyday , am radio to provinces w/o FM hehe , am radio , they play old songs & country music 😅 Pinoys are used to classic songs , memorized d melodies & love d beat & lyrics .
I grew up hearing country music everyday. Thanks to my dad blasting it in our speaker every morning so he can hear it while working at the farm. He loves music in every genre but country is his favorite.
I missed this old songs!! I remember when i was a kid our neighbor always listen to these music ( he is connecting the music to big speaker) and my morning is always so good!!! Like imagine these kinds of songs are your alarm clock you will never have a bad morning
It's relatively simple. If it's a good or popular song a Filipino can and will sing it. It doesn't matter what genre or what year. Good music is timeless and it's appreciated.
Back then no cellphone no internet and my grandmother and grandfather just have the small radio and every sunday country music is so popular, specialy in the morning 🥰👌 that's nostalgic
Just a sunday throwback on the radio. We dont waste such good music. We have a program on a specific fm station thats called "OLD BUT GOLD". AND THROWBACK. Yeah, thats about it.
It's normal throughout in the Philippines to hear all Americans songs Monday to Sunday you can listening in radio FM or even in the streets sing in a karaoke..
Filipinos just love music, listening to music every where they go, whatever they do, even in restroom, taking bath & doing their thing. I listen to music even going to sleep to waking up.
Country songs were played every sunday mornings on radio. Actually until now i can still hear it. Our parents usually turn on the radios early in the morning while during the chores..cooking.. and also to wake their kids hehe

Every Sunday the radios are filled with country music. My mom and aunts will be doing chores while listening to it. So most filipinos has good exposure to country music lol.
For Filipinos, The top 2 things you do in daily basis, 1st is Job, and 2nd is music. So it's normal here that most Filipinos can sing. There's no internet before so we love our radios and tv, cassettes and cds. In school, student brought guitars, and walkmans. We even have "Song Hits". In early 2000s MTV and MYX is very popular. Basically speaking, Filipinos doesn't need to learn how to sing. It is already imbedded in our DNA.
Grew up with my parents playing country, ballad, rock ballad, kundiman, and all the genres available during their time. So we also developed a love for these types of music--and sing them, too. :)
When I was stull studying more than 4 decades ago, I used to frequent music bars that had live country music. There were lots of music bars in Metro Manila, Baguio and even in the provinces where country music was played live.
Well you see every sunday the radio plays country music in the Philippines that's why. Country music is a relaxing thing to hear in the day of your restday and it is sunday after those busy days, day to relax.
Before the rise of the internet age, the majority of us grew up with only radio in our house as a form of entertainment. Sunday's lists are the goat -- all flashbacks, good oldies... From country music like country roads up to take on me.
I remember growing up every sunday local radio station would be blasting country music songs...from 9am until 3pm back then I dont really appreciate country songs I think they sound so boring but now I appreciate it so much.
Yup! Just a normal Sunday for us. Most, if not all, FM radio stations has this kind of programming every Sunday.
