Soccability - Short Documentary Film | Trailer
'Soccability' follows a football team for kids with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Chelmsford, Essex. Baddow Spartak Soccability was founded by Luke Ayton a little over five years ago when he found out 22,000 children in Essex were registered with SEND without a single offering for them to play football in Chelmsford.

Directors Statement:
Directing this documentary was something I had wanted to do for a long time. I was a coach for this team a few years ago and I got to see what it meant to the players and their families. I wanted to share some of their stories and why there should be more teams like this one.
The major issue with filming this documentary was that the team is based in Chelmsford and we were based in Bath so funding the trip would be expensive. Nevertheless, we split the cost between the crew and made it happen. Furthermore, as we didn’t want to reshoot, we filmed the documentary over one weekend. We were pressured for time and had to complete this documentary over the space of 2-3 months.
As director and editor of this documentary, I had to craft a story together rather than just showing the players play football. It’s a very hard thing to do, especially because I’m so close to the subject. I spent 3 weeks working on the picture lock because I wanted it to be the best we could do and thankfully in the end I was happy with the result.
Hearing how much this team means to this community really shows how powerful football can be. It’s not just a sport, it’s a social playground which should be more accessible.
