Hardcore was always breakbeat though in the beginning. They added the 4 to the floor and the basslines to create 4beat. Unfortunately, this style didn't last too long. It got replaced by the stompy stuff everyone refers to hardcore rather quickly. Shame because this style had so much more life in it.
