    I found that my perspective changed when using it and it made making music fun again. I’d been a preset junkie for years, just not thinking about sound design as something I had the time for. Then I got the blooper and I felt like a kid again, tweaking guitar pedals was in a way how I got into music production. I’d forgotten how much fun it was to get lost in the sound design aspect of making music. There’s a really interesting video from Andrew Huang where he talks about how important it is to separate sound design sessions from producing sessions. It’s not only practical but therapeutic in my experience.

    This is a great take! I've had my Blooper for about 4 months and agree. I originally hoped to pretty much write entire songs on the device, using the layers. But the Blooper is far better as a song "part" maker. Create loops and textures, get lost, and as much as possible bounce these explorations to your DAW or other device - then assemble a song from the parts created. It's an amazing "create" tool but not at all great "curate" tool. I too deeply wish it had count in, or the ability import a loop.
    For those looking to make compositions in looper the RC 505 is your best bet. Pair it with a Generation Loss or a simple lo-fi VST and you'll get very similar tones. Or buy both - Blooper can do a lot when midi synced with another looper pedal that it can offload sounds to.

    This was a interesting video. I'd love to see you do a series on pedals for synths. You mentioned that it does similar things as other pedals, but didn't mention the names of those devices. A comparison video of the types of effects pedals would be an informative video as well.
    I like that your videos are from your "lived in" perspective. It really gives a point of view of what it's like to own something for a time, instead of a bought to review video. I look forward to more your videos. Keep up the hard work and thank you for another wonderful video. :)

    I found this pedal to be a lofi king. Additive mode is your friend. Use it plus stability until you hit the sweet spot - then hit the switch for normal. I use the usb software for noisy on stability all the way up for this to make the most impact. Obviously this is its own beast vs composing . But minor bpm adjustments in a daw can lend this tool to creating soundscapes you won’t find without buying high end reel to reel decks and tape with bouncing etc. which the stab+additive gives in spades. Maybe a vst out there can do this ? But not that I’ve found yet.

    Nice video. This feels a lot like my experience with the Chase Bliss Thermae. Its a phenomenal sounding analog delay, but the added pitch shifting features are difficult to get anything musical out of, while at the same time, being a LOT of fun to play with. It also was a very expensive pedal, and I have been tempted to sell it a number of times.... and yet I still own it.

    Yeah, you are right on the mark - the Blooper is way beyond its conventional "pedal format", which is sometimes a bit of a pain to manage if you have it, like myself, fixed onto a pedal board - you really need to dive into to get the most out of it. But this may be a bit of a hassle if you are holding a guitar, attempting to sample a riff. Sometimes, its a frustrating experience. Curiously, I have an "easier time" (in a relative way, of course) on managing sound onto the Make Noise Morphogene than with the Blooper. That said, still a brilliant pedal - like all CBA stuff - Korte is no doubt a genius!

    I am really having trouble liking/using their pedals in general. I like verbs so thought the mood mki would be cool to scoop when it was being discontinued, but I have found it more difficult than the ELEKTRON workflow to learn completely how to find all these functions and figureout how all this stuff is working based on lights and diffrent toggle and dip positions.
    Their stuff seems to be for people making mostly glitchy noise or ambient guitar.
    I like FXs that make things sound better, not worse.

  • @benjaminmendelsohn1113

    Thanks for this great review! Using the layers function, do you think this pedal can work with multiple input sources to create a thicker collage or composition, perhaps via a selector switch to alternate between a synth and a guitar? I know folks say for multi-instrument composition and performance, something like the Boss RC 505 is better suited, especially since it has dedicated volume per track controls etc, but the effects are bad! And I'm on a budget and looking for something that could at least make manipulation AND multi-instrument / sound source collaging possible.

    I got my Blooper a couple weeks ago and for me it was instant gratification, love at first sight! It makes an otherwise dull loop into something that feels alive, so much character is added with its modifiers and stability knob. Some aspects are just plain fun, like using it as a wacky effect-filled delay (in additive mode things get really crazy) but I will soon be approaching it as a composition tool, which will take some figuring out but not impossible.
    It’s tied for first favorite with Microcosm on my board.

It requires too much interactive nob fiddling, and you can only really work with a handful of loops if you are taking it live.

  • @blindianajones
    @blindianajones 2 роки тому +1

    It did not take me long to fall out of favor with the Blooper. To your point, its an issue with structure, or better said for me, repeatability for use as a song part. Im not capturing blooper into a sampler. Im wanting to find settings that create a song part then use the pedal at the time of the part. Thats clearly not what this pedal is for stand alone. All this said, I did not order the Mood. As far as I can tell in videos, it will help me create repeatable textures for song parts. I should say that Im playing an electric guitar into an amp and my goal with these pedals is to create songs and use the same gear to play live. I say all that because I dont really have a way to do sampling while I play guitar. I can turn on and off pedals, which is why the MOOD or something that helps create layers or textures works well. Thanks for the video!

    This video echoes a lot of what I feel about the Mood pedal. The build quality and aesthetics are top notch, and you can get a lot of strange and inspiring sounds. Both pedals are terrific as desktop units for a home studio.
    However, so much of the character of these pedals lies in being really hands-on with them. For that reason, I don't think these are good for live use, or at least I'm personally not interested in kneeling down to my pedalboard to tweak knobs during a live performance, nor having an expression pedal exclusively dedicated to the parameters set by the rocker switches.

    • @Kwert
      @Kwert 2 роки тому +2

      MOOD (and to a lesser extent Blooper) really shine with a MIDI controller like the Morningstar MC6 or 8. Unfortunately with Blooper you can’t save pedal settings as presets, they’re only for recalling saved loops. You can, however, assign CC messages to change knob and modifier settings.
      With MOOD you can save pedal settings (including dip switch settings) should you find a sound you’d really like to be able to recall.

      @@darkuniversesoundRight, most people just are too gutless to utter their critique, or too stupid to even be able to verbalise it.
      I watched this video because I even subscribed to this channel. The content is good, as I said, but there was always something that annoyed me. Today I got clear about the reason and described it in my comment. And honestly, less self-presentation and self-regarding facial play would do his videos a good favour. So maybe he could utilise this feedback and make better videos in the future. Not only because of me, of course, but maybe if a lot of people would have liked my comment.
