First of all thank you so much for making such a video, it would be very helpful for anybody who just uses a DSLR as a point to shoot camera I bought it from a sale in 2008 and have used it till now(2024) specially with its 50 mm lens, it is magic As you rightly said it is indeed a great first camera Thank you once again My question: Which should be my second camera, if you can suggest as I am shifting my focus to wildlife photography however have budget restrictions (till now I photographed casually mostly in social occasions) I have a I phone for that but I understand very well what I phone or any phone can I love DSLRs , they really create magic
Do you need a new camera for wildlife photography? Honestly, this one might be just fine for that, despite the age and frame rate. An idea to consider is, instead of a new camera, look at investing your entire budget in a better lens. That will give you better results than would a newer camera with a lesser lens.
So I’m 64 and of course on a fixed income and really don’t care to invest 1,000s in a new camera, I still have my Eos Rebel xt and really want to get back into this wonderful hobby again. The problem is I do not have a computer to view my pics on because my laptop only has a small opening for a smaller USB. Any suggestions on how I can view my photos?
Does your laptop have a standard USB-A port? That's the typical USB port that most things plug into. If yes, an SD card reader that plugs into a USB-A port will run $5-10, I think.
To correctly and completely remove the CompactFlash memory card (CF), press the plunge lever down and then use your thumbnail to gently but firmly press it down (home) an extra 1/16” and the card will spring out fully. CompactFlash (Type I and Type II) / max 8GB I try to stick with SanDisk and Lexar Professional cards for reliability. Treat them gently and with care. There is an eyepiece blanking cover permanently attached to the original Canon shoulder strap; it stays on the strap and slides onto the bare eyepiece rails from above. Thanks for the excellent three videos on the EOS 350D Subscribed.
Omgs thank you for this!!!! But I have questions though 1. Is it normal to only see black photos in M, Av and Tv mode at night? 2. Why A-dep and P takes too much time to shoot also its so blurry when I hold it? 3. Why I cant adjust the shutterspeed in P mode?
Thank you! 1- Yes if your shutter speed is too slow for the camera to record light. At night, you'll need LONG shutter speeds. A star trails image will be dozens of 30-second exposures stacked together in post. A cityscape might be a full 30 seconds. You'll also need a tripod. 2- Because the camera is making decisions about the exposure for you. You can make the exposures shorter with a higher ISO or more light. If you're inside, for instance, or it's night, then the exposures will be very long. 3- Same as above. In P mode the camera decides what to do. There's a section in this video (linked in the description) that describes how each shooting mode works.
13:30 I really wanna know why I shouldnt push it past 400 in more detail :P I found this camera in my mums basement, i was never into photography but somehow and Im so exited to experiment with Iso-Aperture-Shutterspeed now. I love that you explain some concepts in this video aswell. I bought new batteries and a 8gb disk. I dont care its 8megapixels. But i do care about iso and i wanna know whyyyyyyy David why is it not smart with older cams like this to push it past 400?
:D For ISO, it's because the old hardware and amplification infrastructure and algorithms in the old DSLRs were not nearly as good as they are today. I'll shoot my A7 IV at all kinds of ISOs and it handles them well. With cameras like this, if you push past 400, you may find the color noise too strong and want to convert them to black and white.
I am trying to set up my Canon EOS XS to shoot with Neewer slave units, and sometimes the setup works great. Other times ... without my changing anything, they don't fire. I think that it may be that I am not in the right mode, but I cannot find any information on what mode to use and make the proper adjustments. I understand that this camera is not designed for use with studio lights, but I would like to see if I can get it to work before deciding to purchase a new camera... reuse, repurpose, recycle, right?
It's almost certainly a settings issue. It SHOULD be compatible with studio lights with the right settings. Ultimately, cameras don't really care what kind of flash is attached. First thing I'd try is setting the camera to full manual operation and setting the shutter speed to the flash sync. Then try the flash setup again. If it works then we know the issue is related to the settings you were trying. I'm going to guess you have the camera in either P, A, S, or a scene mode and, if yes, then those partial- to fully-automatic modes will affect flash triggering in different ways depending on the specific mode. For studio lighting, since you'll have complete control over everything, shooting in full manual operation will give you better and more consistent results anyway.
Yeah, and the news isn't good. It means your camera's CF card reader is damaged. Generally, there's no fix for that short of replacing all the electronics, and it's cheaper to buy a different camera.
When I press the ISO, AF, etc... buttons, nothing happens. If I press the menu button, I get menus, but then the ISO, etc... buttons act as arrows going through the menus. I get some of the options on the menus, but not all of the ones shown in the video. I definitely have the Rebel XT. The bottom says DS126071. Is this a different model maybe?
@@sharonsoule7717 what mode is your mode dial set to? If it's in green box mode, you're going to have fewer controls. Set it to A or M if it isn't and see if that fixes it.
Through the viewfinder only with this camera. I forget when Canon introduced live view in this camera tier, but I don't think it arrived for a couple more models after this.
I recently fixed up my brothers camera (the canon rebel xt) what are the best settings for a beginner? Settings I plan on putting is, iso 100, raw images, and green box. Should I changed anything else or change the settings I plan on putting?
Shoot in green box for a day or two just to get a feel of the handling, then try P, A, and S. After a few weeks of playing around with those, try out M mode. M will really teach you how to get a good exposure and the P, A, and S modes will help you get a feel for how some settings affect other settings.
There is an app included on Mac called Image Capture that will import from this camera over USB! If you have the right USB cable and/or dongle. I just got mine to work today and managed to import some photos.
I need further help from a professional. This is my first camera, and i'm very, very new to this. Can I use this for burst photography? I'm trying to do baby's first macro shot/focus stack.

@@hotboxmanor No problem and I understand. So there's a drive mode control, back of the camera by the LCD I think.
