I still find it difficult to be honest/critical of a vehicle, but keep the overall tone of a review positive. I hope I accomplished that with this review, because I genuinely like the Eclipse Cross, I just don't think it's met it's potential yet. Anyway, thanks for checking out my review. Hope your day is going well. ✌
I think that the problem it’s that doesn’t feel as a completely new product. And I convince that it is because some switches and controls thats looks and feels old. And the driving position for taller drivers its too high. But I like it anyway. Nice review!
got fully loaded one, fun car to drive, specially in "gravel mode" with "eco" mode off, almost like a sports mode. Took EC camping this summer and went up 30km on the forestry roads, S-AWC handles it like a dream, with occasional drifts here n there for some added fun if you're going over 70km/h
Love the concept of the channel - drive 100 rental cars and review them. Awesome! I think you hit most of the bullet points. We love the Eclipse Cross too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the shout out man, I really appreciate it. And as someone who does videos on YT every now and then I know just how much work it is to edit these videos so you definitely deserve something for all the time you put in for our entertainment. As for the car, it seems like there's a lot of cheapish looking plastic on the interior. Not a big fan of that, but I definitely like the hard cover over the SOS button. I think all vehicles should have some form of physical lockout of that button to ensure no accidental presses. Great video as always.
I might be wrong but I think this may have dual injection. That's what I read once before. If it does, that is a bonus compared to just direct injected. Which means Mitsubishi is smart.
Words of caution. Mitsubishi is partially owned by Nissan, and utilizes the horrendous NISSAN-JATCO continuously variable transmission. The JATCO CVT is known for breaking the bands in the CVT and transmission overheating troubles. It is not a very durable transmission, and it's known for premature failures... ⚠
its jatco yes but mitsubishi has their own design, mitsubishi transmissions dont fail like the new nissan cvt transmissions. Jatco only mass produces the transmission.
@@warcrabcyber9908 my Suzuki has the same transmission as those outlander sports and I got 120k on it so far zero problems. Mitsubishi are very reliable vehicles so they are not going to put a crap tranny in and give it a ten year 100k warranty.
Howdy brother...Hope your Memorial day weekend goes well. Another fine review! Speaking for myself I would go with this Mitsu. Why? It's quirky and out of the ordinary looking. To each their own, dontcha think? I'd going for the top of the line model myself, but this model you tested ain't chopped liver...😄...(levity, friend!). Looking forward to your next review. As always, Peace! ♐
Your lucky you got a SE and not and ES. They are a mix of SEs and Es’s on rental lots. When I flew into STL a few weeks ago National had a ton of these on the Emerald aisle and most had less then 100 miles on it. I didn’t want to drive an Mitsubishi all the way to Chicago so I ended up picking a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited with only 90 miles on it. The Cherokee was slow but it was a super nice car.
I'm impressed you got to choose. By me, rentals are hard to come by since it's college move out season. Then again, I actually specifically asked for this one since I'd never driven it before. Anyway, glad to hear you got a Cherokee. That's a long from from STL to Chicago and I think driving the Eclipse all that way would have been uncomfortable.
@100RentalCars --- Ya gotta work on describing handling. Can't just say it has "good" handling or is easy to park, etc. That doesn't tell the audience anything. Is the steering light or heavy? Is there play in the steering at low speed/high speed? How is the steering ratio?
I'm a little confused by this car. What does it do that an Outlander Sport doesn't do as well or better for thousands of dollars less without the added complexity of a turbo?
I've never driven either of them so I can't say how "horrible" the Outlander Sport is, but I don't know where the "tiny" part comes from? Check out the dimensions on the Mitsubishi website and you'll see that the 2 cars are built on the same 105" wheelbase platform and though the Eclipse is about 1.5" inches longer overall, in every other dimension, both inside and out, the Outlander Sport is equal to or larger than the Eclipse. All the performance numbers I've seen on the Sport are comparable to the Eclipse too (actually the 2.4 liter Sport seems to be a little faster).
@Paul Apostoli Here in the US Mitsubishi has no Diesels at all. Actually Mitsubishi barely exists here, although I do see an occasional Outlander Sport and lately I've been seeing more Mirage G4s. The Mirage hatchback doesn't seem as popular.
@@100RentalCars style is subjective. I was literally about to pick up the rvr and i happen to walk by cross eclipse i decided to to buy it mainly because i loved the design.
Eco mode on many vehicles (mine included) retards the throttle response. You’re better off only using that on the highway when you have the cruise on....it will slowly bring your car up to speed (I have adaptive cruise) rather than drop two or three gears to catch up to the traffic ahead of you. I would never use it in normal driving. It’s borderline dangerous
Did you mean to say Ford Escape? The Edge is a fair amount larger and higher priced than this (starting at $30k). No arguing that the Edge is a nicer vehicle but how would this compare to the Escape?
pasta1298 I think the same, maybe he make a mistake. The Ford Edge it’s more expensive and don’t compete in the category of the Eclipse, it’s one segment above.
It does have potential. Honestly, I tend to like Mitsubishis. I hope they come out with a few new vehicles soon...or make a bolder move into the EV game.
Is this just how most CVTs feel? I had one of these for a weekend and couldn't get over the feeling of the transmission and the fake gear shifts. Not sure how to describe it other than feeling weird, slightly shaky.
nice review, mitsubishi should have gone with a safer design for the back, while it does not look bad, its not for everyone. a redesign of the back should be their main focus right now. they also need to include rear air vents, all the competition has it, even toyota. this will be competing with the mazda cx5, and crv. the cross looks like it has some potential though but everyone is pre occupied with the back of it to take it seriously.
@Paul Apostoli well actually i am not from the US , but i do enjoy mitsubishi cars, but it would be nice if mitsubishi listens to their customers more often. there are car reviewer that would tell you get the kia instead, but the car reviewers are the worst judge of reliability and longevity in a car. they always get cars shiny new when everything works properly and mislead customers. after 3 - 4 years is when cars like kia starts giving problems , such as failing engines. they cant work properly in third world countries with low quality gas. mitsubishi and toyota accounts for all of this in their vehicles. however i would like to see mitsubishi get better as a brand, and this starts by listening to customers. as ridiculous as the request may be sometimes. things like rear ac vents is the new standard in cars. mitsubihsi needs to observe trends in the market and respond quicker to new trends. that is their main downfall other than that their cars are solid
To me, when I see one on the road I take a look at it. I kind of like them, I didn’t realize that the mpg was so bad he highway, seriously how does it only get 1 mpg on the highway more than the city? Try an outlander or outlander sport, I think it would make this one look a lot better. I had an outlander earlier this month and I completely agree with you about the trip computer controls, why aren’t they on the steering wheel?!
