Seeing homes like this makes me wish I wasn't old and had my life to live again. Your home and garden brought tears to my eyes. You must feel so proud. I do hope it is a forever home..💐
Oh this is such a beautiful compliment, and I really appreciate it so much, thank you 🥰 we do indeed feel very lucky to be here, and other than our 6ft son, who often hits his head on the low doors, we can see ourselves here for plenty more years to come, I like that the garden isn’t too big and I can manage to take care of it without a huge amount of effort 😂 wishing you a great day x x
Well done for getting off the trend train, it never ends well, the grey trend seems to be never ending and so many homes are like walking into some kind of limbo where all the colour has gone. You have made a really nice job of your rooms, it looks lovely. I especially like the cabbage white in the bedroom, just that hint of green, really nice.
I painted an upstairs bedroom/office Salmon once. The neighbors loved it at night when the lights were on. I'm in an old house now and struggling with color. I tend to the warmer neutrals. But, I loved the soft hues of the colors you chose for the bedrooms and the dining room snug. Angela, you have the most charming cottage I've ever seen. xo Suzi
I had never heard of Farrow and Ball, but you’re so right…a quality paint is so worth the price. Your beautiful home and garden are what initially drew me to your channel and all the colors are such an inspiration to me! I love how soothing and cozy the interior is and how cheery and bright your garden is. Love every square inch!
Thank you so much! ☺️ you’re so so kind, such a lovely comment for me to receive! I’m so looking forward to the Spring and getting back into the garden, which currently looks a mess 😂 lots of work to do 💪🏼 xxx
Thank you so much Dianne! I have to admit, albeit reluctantly, that the exposed brick was my husbands idea! 😂 in fact, I wasn’t sure at all, and teased him that the plaster part looked like a giant iceberg, but in time I’ve come to love it too… so all credit to him 😜 he’ll be thrilled to receive such a compliment lol
Hey Denise, thank you so much 😊 oh yes, it really does look blue some days and green other days, so funny how the colour changes depending on the weather outside! 😊
I love the soft hues of colour you have used Angela, they work so well on all the recesses and angles of the walls, I am in awe of the nooks and crannies in your cottage, I find it fascinating always something new to look at, and the light bounces off these areas. You really do have a flair for decor, love all the soft muted colours, I have to admit I’m not really into really bright harsh colours! 😅, I hope you’re doing ok, still going on your walks, take care. Suze. 🤗 x
Hey Suze, you’re so kind to write me such a lovely message, thank you so so much! Yes, the cottage has lots of curvy walls, it’s what really made me want to buy it, it’s so unusual…as for walks, yes! I’ve actually joined a women’s only cottage walking group which has been lovely! Finding new places to explore and making new friends! So excited for spring too, been out in the garden a little this week! Lots of love x
Fabulous transformation. Idyllic. The walls in my cottage are neutral, so I decided on colour popping throughout. I chose pastels with an occasional bold colour, surprise contrast. Peach bread bin, pale blue kettle. Royal blue vases. White shelving with floral glasses and cups etc. I'm 73 and now described as trendy. 😂😂😂
Morning Angela, thank you for ‘our’ invitation to your beautiful home again … always my favourite video you do, it was lovely to see Bentley feature too 🐾💙 we have many of the same F&B colours but happy to say I didn’t get on The Hague blue trend!… not that I haven’t made some bloopers along the way😆i know what you mean about the paint/print bravery thing, my ‘snug room’ was my little step to that I incorporated some Of Vanessa Arbuthnot fabric and wall paper English panelling with a ticking wallpaper and cow parsley linen curtain.. very brave! 😆 but I love it. I do hope you and your family are all well … keep doing what you’re doing as you do it so well. Alison xx
Aww glad you spotted Bentley 💙 🥰 oh your snug sounds exactly how I’d like mine! How did you start? Did you pick a fabric first…? I’d love to be braver mixing patterns, stripes and florals… I keep looking on Pinterest! I think I need to go for it!
I love aqua, creams & muted tones. When I bought my house the feature wall was a particularly hideous shade of purple. It had to go. Glad you did the same to your bathroom.☺️
Thanks so much! 😊 I have to confess that was my husbands idea 💡 I teased him that it looked like a giant plaster iceberg🧊 😂 but it has grown on me and now I love it too!
Dear Angela, I love your cottage and would move in there in a heartbeat. The F&B colours are uniquely beautiful and that can have its price. The soft colours remind me of Cornwall🥰. You have furnished the cottage so cosily down to the smallest detail and painted the walls so well that everything is harmonious. The old dark colour in the bathroom gave me the feeling of being overwhelmed. Terrible! The room will look completely different when you paint it with "dead Salmon". Crazy name! I can't wait to see how it looks. You'll probably change the decoration too. New colours for Spring.🌷 Thank you very much for this wonderful video. I enjoyed it so much❣. Take care, and have a healthy lovely week. Gabi❤
Aww Gabi thank you so much for your lovely compliments, I’m hoping to make some changes to the cottage this year for sure, although I’m not sure whether my efforts will soon turn towards the garden now that spring is coming 🌸👏🏻🪴 the sunshine really lifts my mood and spirits, I find the dark and grey of Winter so depressing! Just like the old bathroom paint 😂😂 I hope this coming weekend has moments of calm and happiness for you 💖
Thanks for this! Last time I took in your beautiful channel I was in another State as my husband and I are moving. Well, we’re finally closer to the grandchildren and here I am watching your channel again. I subbed back in January I believe and am a Brit who used to call Texas home as we moved to Oklahoma this past Saturday. I had lived almost 20 years in Canada and your videos are refreshing, your voice calming and the music is just so relaxing. Thanks for this great video! Love, love, LOVE what you and your husband did with your stunning cottage😍🥰Love the colors (colours😉) The dramatic change of the bathroom with the original dark was so satisfying watching🩵 Have a wonderful day🌺😀
Dearest Vanessa, I’ve just read your wonderful comment (I’m not sure how I missed it!) thank you so much for your lovely compliments 🥰 It sounds as if life has been adventurous for you moving about so much, I’m glad you’re now settled nearer the grandchildren, how lovely 🥰 I’m looking forward to warmer weather here in the UK and getting out in the garden 🪴 wishing you a relaxing weekend ahead x x
@@hideawaycottage ♥️🌺My pleasure😀Happy weekend to you too! Hopefully soon the warmer weather will be there. Where the grandchildren are it is currently tornado season😝so I’m delighted to be in Texas, as hubby winds down his business here with I think you’d call too hot temps in the upper 80s to low 90sF (26-32C)😎Took me a while to get acclimated to these hot temps, I love them now and even find AC refreshing😃Looking forward to binge watching your channel today🤗
You've done a beautiful job and the colours are lovely. You say you want it to be more cottage-y. I could be wrong, but I thought English Cottage decor meant chintz with coordinating stripes and small prints and checks. You don't have to go over the top with this, but a bit more pattern on the pillows, small chairs, table runners, small rugs etc. might add to a more cozy and quaint look.
Oh thank you! Yes, that is exactly how I’d like it to look, you’re spot on, I’d love to lean into some chintz and florals, and I love stripes too…I think I’m going to start looking for pieces to make it feel a bit more traditional 🌸
I love the colors you currently have now. You've chosen colors that are not only complementary to each room, but that also transition well from one room to the next. Very interesting video, Angela! P.S. Great music, too!
Hey Heather! My fellow UA-camr! Thank you so much 😊 you’re so lovely, i appreciate your support always 💖 I now use music from Epidemic Sounds as I’d had copyright problems before hand 🫣😩 such a nightmare haha
For me personally, picking a color of paint is the most difficult thing. You’re right about Pinterest. It is very trendy, I don’t want trendy, because I don’t like to paint !! Nevertheless, i don’t paint very often. But your colors look so fresh and inviting. Just lovely!!
Thank you Elizabeth, that’s so kind of you! Oh yes I absolutely agree, no more trying trends for me haha, I ended up painting so much more in order to reverse my mistakes 😂 xx
Loved that thank you 😊 I agree I love F&B paint its like liquid velvet and goes such a long way ! I have the shade "Bone" in lounge and on stairs and throught the day it changes with the light. Also have "Green blue in one of the bedrooms love it!!
Thanks for sharing!! They’re both colours I love too, I completely agree how they change, which you don’t get with other brands.. they’re lovely. We sound like we have similar taste 🤗🌸
Beautiful colours. I've just recently decorated the older part of our house. We got all the walls skimmed and just went for an off white on the walls in all rooms. So much better for us and has longevity. I too scoured pinterest looking for the boho look and am now really pleased with the way its turned out. No more decorating for a while now for me😊
Hey 👋 oh that sounds lovely! And it’s such a big job that it’s a relief when it’s all done and feels fresh and clean.. and Pinterest is such a useful place isn’t it…time to sit back and enjoy your home 🏠 🥰
F&B 'Setting Plaster' and 'Dayroom Yellow' are good warm subtle colours for a cottage until you regain confidence. they also do a nice soft green but cannot think of the name at the minute. I always think country houses and cottages should be warm and welcoming, counteracting the long winters and grey skies. Stronger pops of colour can be used in the soft furnishings with the odd piece from the opposite on the colour wheel....don't be afraid of patterns and wallpaper either, :-) Beautiful cottage you have....and you have done so well with the garden, you can use this for inspiration for inside :-)
Hello! Oh this is lovely, and so helpful, thank you ☺️ it’s funny you should mention those two colours in particular, as I’ve recently been looking and love them both, I was inspired by watching Matilda Goads home tour (here on UA-cam) where she’s decorated her bedroom in a pink and yellow, and it looks incredible! I wonder whether I could pull it off here, at the cottage, but wow those two colours together look amazing. I think you’re right, I definitely need to lean towards warmer colours, and be braver with pattern and colour. I would love some gingham and florals and maybe some touches of red too. And I love when people take their wallpaper into the ceilings… thank you for your message, it’s lovely to hear ideas from others, I really appreciate it 🤗🌸
@@hideawaycottage You're welcome 🙂 Must look at the video you mention. Ditto on wallpaper being taken up over ceilings, particularly in small bedrooms, looks so cosy, like a safe haven and would imagine gives a wonderful sleep. Fine striped ticking also goes well with flowers. The thing with mixing patterns is to remember to place large patterns next to tiny patterns and spaced out patterns next to busy patterns. Somehow this seems to work without it all looking an overwhelming mess 😆 ...so a small gingham with a large flower would look balanced. Soft pinks, along with yellow, also look great with soft greens..like a spring garden......best teacher for colour is nature, she never gets it wrong......so think of seasons when mixing colours in a room. Well, happy decorating ......and have fun with it 😁
Really lovely Angela. I have similar colours but now it's almost time to repaint. I'll probably go with the same again as I've never tired of them. Now all I need is energy and enthusiasm...😊
Aw thanks Sheila, oh boy it’s a very big task isn’t it! Funnily enough we are currently painting the Reno house and it makes your arms ache 😂 so although I fancy some new colours in the cottage maybe I’ll wait a while yet 🤗
Hello I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago, I absolutely love it! You have an amazing cottage which is so tastefully decorated. I share your taste in decor, I don't follow trends it's quite boring and doesn't always reflect us at all, it's our home so why would we want it to be the same as everyone else.I absolutely love F&B paint too,, it's amazing to use and gives a very professional finish.I live in Norfolk and so often inspired by the cottages too, there are some amazing individual shops for home decor items. Thank you for sharing your home and ideas with us all.
Hello Julie, I’m delighted you’re here, welcome and “hello” 👋thank you so much for all your lovely compliments, most appreciated! Oh we love Norfolk so much, so many happy memories visiting there, before we bought our cottage we used to stay in a beautiful thatched cottage near to Mundesley, and it gave us so many ideas… ah I can’t wait for the warmer weather 🩵🌸
Thank you very much, so You are missed on UA-cam since you haven't published anything in many months and I love your channel and your house, feel free to come back
I just loved this cosy visit to your cottage, thank you! I recently found, and subscribed, to your channel. Truly enjoying all of your videos. You’ve chosen the colours throughout your home well, and created a lovely serene setting. I love the velvet texture of F&B, and, sorry, but, I have to admit, I love the names.😂 Sending a kind hello from Connecticut USA…Elizabeth
Hello dear Elizabeth! I’m so so happy to have you here 🥰 I must apologise for the late reply it’s been a hectic week! Your kind words and compliments have made my evening, so thank you ☺️ I’m really touched 🌸💖
I forgot to say, yes haha I’ve also become fond of the F&B names too, if anything they make remembering much easier if you need to touch up etc… sending a big hello back to you over in Connecticut 🤗
Thank you so much 🤗 I appreciate your kind comment. Oh I’m glad, I’ll be honest I’m not great with technology 🫣so I find navigating UA-cam “back office” tricky, but if needed I’ll try and sort out problems, please send me a message in future if it doesn’t work 🤗💖🌸
Hey 👋 thanks so much 🤗 so we used a paint brand called Sandex, which specialises in exterior paints, and the walls (render) is painted in Chalk hill, which is a creamy putty colour, and the windows, doors etc is in Cloudy Day, which is a greeny blue colour. They’re standing up well to the elements (we painted them in the first lockdown) 😂
Hey 👋 oh it was super easy, I used a product called Liming wax, you just rub it on with a cloth then buff it. I bought it from Amazon, it’s by Briwax, and it’s a smooth paste, called Liming Wax. It’s been really hard wearing too as we did it a few years ago now x x
I've just watched again....😊 Can I ask are the walls in your bedroomed lined with wallpaper or did you paint onto stripped walls/bare plaster? Thankyou. X
Hello! Thank you so much ☺️ oh yes, the paint is straight onto plaster, no prep… in fact the plaster is not very smooth, lots of pits and dents! Thank you for watching, I appreciate it 🥰🌸
Hey Leslie👋 the brick wall in the kitchen isn’t faux, it’s real, and is full of character as it’s been there for about 175 years, the blob (or iceberg as we call it 😂) is to cover where a old fire was, as the wall is completely blackened, and the brick wouldn’t come clean. So my husband decided to re plaster over that part and just leave some of the wall exposed. We’ve left it like that for now but may decide to re plaster it all again at some point ☺️
@@hideawaycottage Not thin like sheer but maybe I should've said long narrow drapes? I don't know if this would fit the rest of the decor but after the drapes maybe even a refurbished double hung window? Not installed but just hung like a picture. Some people put a cottage garden paper picture on the back of the windows like you're looking out on a garden.
Thanks

Beautiful cottage!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! 😊
So so pretty💕your cottage is amazing x
Thank you Beverley, I really appreciate it 🥰
Hello I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago, I absolutely love it!
Thank you very much, so You are missed on UA-cam since you haven't published anything in many months and I love your channel and your house, feel free to come back
There's only one colour emanating from me and that's Green 💚
I do love blues and greens, so calming 🩵
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
❤
Thank you ☺️
Your home is very pretty 😍 anf Thanks for activatating the subtitles so I can understand you
Thank you so much 🤗 I appreciate your kind comment. Oh I’m glad, I’ll be honest I’m not great with technology 🫣so I find navigating UA-cam “back office” tricky, but if needed I’ll try and sort out problems, please send me a message in future if it doesn’t work 🤗💖🌸
Your home is lovely, thank you for sharing it. What colours did you use for the exterior windows and render?
Hey 👋 thanks so much 🤗 so we used a paint brand called Sandex, which specialises in exterior paints, and the walls (render) is painted in Chalk hill, which is a creamy putty colour, and the windows, doors etc is in Cloudy Day, which is a greeny blue colour. They’re standing up well to the elements (we painted them in the first lockdown) 😂
The color of depression 😂😂
😂😂 oh it really was! It was the fact that the ceiling was also painted in the same colour that was unbelievable too 🫣
I just watched your video and I have to ask you how you changed your wooden headboard? with white paint? how have you done it?
Thank you for watching, I appreciate it 🥰🌸
Everything was just gorgeous but the kitchen wall still has some explaining to do. The faux brick look was cool but the white blob was disturbing.
@@hideawaycottage
Hmm. That IS quite a dilemma. Maybe some thin long drapes with a valence just to hide the edges?
@@hideawaycottage
Not thin like sheer but maybe I should've said long narrow drapes? I don't know if this would fit the rest of the decor but after the drapes maybe even a refurbished double hung window? Not installed but just hung like a picture. Some people put a cottage garden paper picture on the back of the windows like you're looking out on a garden.
I actually really love this idea! Thank you 😊
What the color on the exterior door, trim
😳 "Promo SM"
I don’t like super modern interiors in old houses. If you want that get a new house.
