I'm one of those firm believers that the government knows something we don't about Wake's disappearance. When he went missing my heart broke, I was one of his biggest fans 😭 my goal this year is to make a pilgrimage to Bright Falls and pay my respects to him by the lake. I don't care if it's been fenced off, I have bolt cutters!

I'm from Watery, the town next to where Alan disappeared! There's a really weird girl that works in the diner that to this day insists that Alan's still around and talks to her. It's really unnerving, but the coffee's great so I always stop by when I can.

not to mention that th area he went missing is now fenced off by the feds... Just something to think about, think there might be more to this than him just drowning

I’d say Wakes books certainly “blew” something but it wasn’t “me away” if you catch my meaning. Dude is a poor man’s Dean Koontz, and Koontz is a poor man’s Steven King. It’s all so trite and predictable with little serious literary merit.

Jeez, Alan Wake. Haven't thought about that guy in years, but I remember being really fascinated by his disappearance. I really liked the Alex Casey books, but yeah, they haven't aged well.
Something really interesting you didn't bring up in the video, but I think you should have: those manuscript pages in The Alan Wake Files? There's a couple more pages floating around the internet. And if you look at all the pages we have, then do a little research, it turns out they seem to be talking about actual missing person cases that happened around the place he disappeared from.
There were also rumors of him leading a murder cult in New York, just like the one in the first Alex Casey book. Really disturbing.

Did not expect such a video today xD I love the take on Alan Wake as a real-life person ... if this would really happen, his name would surely pop up on those unsolved mystery iceberg explained videos lol Definitely makes you wonder how his disappearance would be perceived by in-universe fans, and how much the FBC would try to prevent from leaking to the public.
    Great work, Matt! :)

I watched this video a few times and I really like how meta turns out to be. How fiction leaks into reality in a very interesting way. Up to a point where I even doubt myself of the existance of Alan... A clear example of a very well developed and written character that could be among us if not for the supernatural context he is involved with. GREAT VIDEO, I must say! Love the content. Keep it up! there is more Wake to come I hope.

What happened to Alice was such a tragedy. There was more art and creativity in just a single one of her photos than ANYTHING Wake ever achieved with those Max Casey novels, or whatever they were called. Even airport book stores were embarrassed to carry them. Wake disappearing was probably the best thing to happen to her ... and the worst. A real tragedy.

    • @Pirategamer1138

Don’t rag on Wake like that. Sure, he wasn’t a milestone in literature, but most people aren’t, and don’t need to be to write good books. Besides, their love was genuine and nobody should love a loved one in such a dark place.

@@Pirategamer1138 Yeah, well, all I know is, I went to an Alan Wake book signing for The Fall of Max Casey or whatever it was (the worst one), and he was off his face, drunk. Lucky he didn't punch any photographers while he was there!

    Inspirational stuff!
Now that you have done it, it seems obvious this is the way to do any Remedy Universe analysis; what with their many/multiple worlds overlaid on top of, echoing aspects of, and inspiring each other. Wake could be out there in another world where King and he are contemporaries for real! And another Matt made this video not knowing it would be considered goofy and meta in some other universe where Alan Wake is just a game! We are only too naive not to consider it 😉
(seriously though I wish you held off on breaking character, it was a joy to watch and the video was good enough that you could just have left it as is, without ever acknowledging anyone in our reality 😂)

I don't know if I really agree with your views on Barry Wheeler. He's a bit of a problematic figure, that goes without a doubt - but Tor and Odin were rockers. No manager has ever been able to keep perfect control of their talent. And like, the thing with the nursing center? The fact of the matter is that Barry Wheeler paid for a service and should not have needed to stick around to ensure it was done - the contractors are at fault for the issues with Valhalla Nursing Centre's renovations. Wheeler IS at fault for not checking in on things and having further repairs done, however.
Barry Wheeler kinda sucks, we've all heard his egotistical remarks in interviews, but I don't think he's the horrible mismanager that you've implied him to be. Just another talent manager with a head too big for his actions.
