    Milo is really a fine presenter. Talks so one can hear every word. Besides that he is also a good guitarplayer. Well, them Martins is really something. I liked the slotted one most. Grand guitar.

    I purchased a 2001, D-45 a few y😂ears a go and find it true that they use the best tone woods available. My East Indian top has over three hundred tree rings on the top. An amazingly tight grain. Also the East Indian backs and sides are very tight and have a beautiful grain. It also has a very strong projection and I love the wider fret board and not the 1 11/16 inch wide fret board at the nut. I have been playing guitars since the summer of 1956 when I taught my self on a cheap Stella guitar as I was working at a summer camp as a dish washer. Back home at the end of the summer I picked up the 1945 D-18 guitar that my father purchased new in Pennsylvania. I could not believe the sound that guitar made. It was truly amazing and I compare all guitars against it.
    I also have a 1969 Brazilian rosewood D-35. This guitar has a mellower sound than the D-45 and is my preferred guitar for providing a support for singing . Whereas the D-45 has a very strong base and is great for blue grass. I have a number of martins with my oldest being a 1870s Martin 0-28, the largest guitar made at the time. Also a few 1920s and 1930s Martin 0-18. Each guitar has its own voice, but are all so beautifully built. This is the strength of Martin, they are built to last and built or a special sound for each model. I do try other guitar brands at the guitar stores here in South Korea. In fact my 12 string was built by Laravée and that is also a wonderful guitar and my favorite for playing at weddings here. When it comes to 6 string guitars, those made by Martin are my favorites. And of them all the D-45 is the most beautiful guitar ever made and will be with me till I leave the earth. Thank you Mr Martin for making such wonderful guitars that I continue to play at local live cafés and other venues at the age of 82 years. These guitars have so much enriched my life and I hope the lives of others around me.

    Excellent presentation of various Martin D45 guitars, which of course have their own (high) price. I made a kind of compromise here and own a Martin D41, which has almost exactly the same features, of course for a significantly lower price. 😃

    Terrific video Milo. I liked them all, but would need to sell something big and important (car, house?) before I could afford one.

    I would lean toward the D 45 S. I bought a D 18 S in 1970 and loved it. It was stolen, and in 1972 I replaced it with the D 28 I still have.

      How awful that it was stolen! Never tempted to go back to the shorter neck again? ;)

      @@thefellowshipofacoustics Yes, and to mahogany back and sides for that mellow tone. The D 18 S was a beautiful guitar. The 53 year old D 28 I have is great, but it would like to have a D 18 S sitting next to it. 🙂

    Good to see that TFOA is holding Martins heritage high. People might be complaining that those guitars are unaffordable, but it is this heritage and know-how that allows them to excel also with their guitars in the lower price range. It is worth talking about this, instead of wasting time on China made copy-cat guitars … or US milled and hand voiced tops being sent to China and assembled to guitars there, as we see it at the moment happening to a renown boutique builder from Lewiston, Maine.

      There’s something to be said for both things- I work a fairly prestigious guitar shop in the states and you’d be surprised how often those Chinese guitars hold their own against Martin’s offerings. Now, I have four Martins myself, so obviously I have nothing against the company, but I’ve definitely seen first hand that Martin is capable of making guitars that are less than stellar, often with lower quality woods and QC than said Chinese company. This is not to say that when you get a great one, it’s great, but there’s something to be said for balancing consistency and availability with heritage and clout, most people don’t have the opportunity to go play 5 or 6 D-28s to try and find the best one for them. The price point issue is another beast entirely, but specifically with Touchstone, they’re following Bourgeois’ tendency to make pre war style and sound instruments, the Touchstone has a much beefier neck than all the reimagined Martin stuff (I like the smaller profile and 11/16 nut personally) and fits more into the category of ‘37 reissue, just with a trans oceanic heritage. The only applicable Martin that isn’t 7000 or so is the HD28v, with the v neck, wider nut and through saddle but that’s been discontinued and one has to hunt on reverb for one which isn’t always the best route for acoustics. I like new Martin, I like its heritage and it’s representation of what a guitar could be. Is it possible to celebrate one without putting down the other? Can’t people appreciate Eastman and Touchstone and Blueridge guitars AND a D-45?

      @@NeilMcLinden For me it is pointless looking into these copy cat guitars. For me guitars is a package of the instrument and the music people play on it … will it be rock, folk, country, indie, you name it …
      It is ironic to me when Dylan, Neil Young, Isabell, Oasis, Coldplay, etc. … songs are played on them talking about freedom, tolerance, respect and peace are being played on a guitar originating from the bespoke geography. It simply doesn’t fit. It is not authentic.

    I don't think it is very appropriate in these times when a lot of people can barely make ends meet to upload a video about a Martin D45… It would be better to advise on affordable alternatives. Many more people would appreciate that.

    • @thefellowshipofacoustics
      @thefellowshipofacoustics  2 роки тому +1

      We'd be happy to also share some content on affordable alternatives, but high-end guitars are part of our business and the demographic we cater to.
      Also, we aren't necessarily encouraging people to buy a D45. We're simply sharing the history and offering a comparison of different models. We're privileged enough to have these special guitars, I think it would be inappropriate not to share them :)

      @@thefellowshipofacoustics I think now, especially with all the inflation, the high energy prices and the war in Europe, is not the time for that. Many people who are already having a hard time and would love to have a D45, for which they could normally save up, realize through such videos that they will never be able to do that. Times have changed. Of course you are a shop with also very high priced instruments, but I wonder if that’s the way to go on. I own many Martins, but when I look at my own son… I don’t know how he would be able to save up for such a guitar anymore. It’s impossible for more and more people. Again: the world has changed.

      Luka , When times get tough just take on jobs selling inferior goods to people who will not have enough money to buy luxury items. Volume of sales will keep you on top earnings . Oh, and don't complain !!! Where you are the map maker, draw your own easy route .
