ഈജിപ്തിന്റെ അടിമതത്തിൽ നിന്നും പെസ്സഹാ ആചരിച്ചു സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം പ്രാപിച്ചുവരുടെ തലമുറ പിന്നീട് ആ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം അനുഭവിച്ചില്ല. യേശുവിന്റെ കാലത്തെ യെഹൂദന്മാർ ആ പേസ്സഹയുടെ എഥാർത്ഥ അർത്ഥം മനസ്സിലാക്കാതെ ആഘോഷങ്ങളിലെർപെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടാണ് യേശു കരഞ്ഞത് . അവർ പിന്നീട് നേരിടാൻ പോകുന്ന അനർത്ഥത്തെ ഓർത്തുകൊണ്ടുകൂടിയാണ് യേശു കരഞ്ഞത്.
യേശു തന്റെ ദുഃഖം അറിയിക്കാൻ ഒരു കഴുത പുറത്തു കയറി അതിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു.
ഇന്ന് ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ പാരമ്പരാഗത വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ധരിച്ചും, ഗാനങ്ങൾ ആലപിച്ചും, പഴയതു recreate ചെയ്തും ഉല്ലാസപ്രിയരും സന്തോഷപ്രിയരുമായി ആ യെഹൂദന്മാരെപോലെ എഥാർത്ഥ അർത്ഥം മനസ്സിലാക്കാതെ പെസ്സഹാ ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
യേശു രാജാവാണെന്നു പറയുകയും ഹൃദയത്തിൽ നിന്നും അകറ്റി നിർത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
മനസാന്തരമില്ലാത്ത, വീണ്ടുംജനന അനുഭവമില്ലാത്ത ഹൃദയത്തിൽ യേശുവിനു പ്രാമുഖ്യമില്ലാത്ത ഈ ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ കാണുമ്പോഴും ഇന്നും യേശു കരയുകയാണ്.
