  • Ryobi just dropped the biggest hint ever and we are talking about it! Is Ryobi going to make 40v Chop saw or miter saw? What about a much needed power improvement to the 18v HP Table saw!!!! What if all of the new tools ran off of 120v, 40v, and dual 18v batteries? If this is direction Ryobi is going to change the industry in a way we have not seen before! Ryobi had hybrid dual power (18v /120v) in the past with some stuff, Bluetooth Radio, Fans, Work lights, etc, which I liked, But their flaw was you could only use one or other options at a time, because the plug was built behind the battery port. I think tri-power would be great in many tools but would even be more amazing if the tools had built-in chargers when powered with 120v AC, and we could do away with lugging around extra chargers.

Ryobi’s first (?) attempt at tripower was their cooler running two 18V batteries or 12V DC (automobile power source), or 120V AC (home outlets). This new tripower is definitely the next gen thing in power tools. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

A couple of the ez cleans on these and a few of the propane forced air heaters would make for a quick portable car wash.

The hybrid stuff commonly used battery and a built in voltage adapter brick. For 40v it could be using a buck converter system. The issue would be the Amp draw of the tool. I doubt it would be on high draw items, but we shall see.

The new Ryobi bit cases just came out. Man, they are pretty darn good. The bit holders are actually backwards compatible. I am going back tomorrow to grab another one. I am going transfer all the bit holders into the new one and use the old cases to store my specialty hand tools or fillers of sort (like my glue sticks). I give it an A and I actually like them more than packout bit cases.

Need a belt pack for the 40v with an adapter to run my 18v power tools! Boom 🤯

They need to make an 18 volt belt!!! Boom 40v is to heavy then you have to convert voltage. Just make a belt that has cells built in that are serviceable

A handful of Skil's newest tools can be powered by a PWR 3:06 CORE 12 battery, a PWRCore 20 battery, or a USB-C source (AC charger or power bank) that supports the 12V or 20V PD (Power Delivery) profile.

DeWalt makes something similar. Their Bluetooth speaker takes the 12v, 20v and plug-in power. Not sure what else is out there.

Ryobi is making a big mistake with this. Metabo hpt already has the 36v powrt cord that slots into ANY 36v tool, whether it be a drill or a table saw. Ryobi building it into the tool means its still tool specific, which defeats the purpose.
Now what I can see is dual voltage tools that run on 18v x2 or 40v, which would allow one plus users to use 40v tools without needing to buy into another platform. Making their 40v tools 18v x2 compatible would drastically reduce logistics cost as they would only need one sku and one model, allowing for more niche applications of 18v tools in the ope space, as well as allowing things like table saws, miter saws, RECIPROCATING SAWS to utilize the power of 40v while still being 18v compatible. Plus it would be a lot easier to transition to 40v that wouldnt be practical as 18v x2 like snowblowers, tillers, dual battery port mowers ect, as theyll already have 40v tools that can now utilise the bigger batteries and take advantage of their faster charging
And a 40v wall power adapter would allow any single 40v battery tool to run off a 120v 15a circuit, which would extend to these new saws, as well as things like lights, fans, and even light duty ope.
Ryobi, like usual, has a gem in their product line they REFUSE to polish and let shine. As a new homeowner in a small house, a 20in mower and high powered blower required about 50% more upfront cost to include the 40v batteries, when i could of just gotten tool only 18v x2 tools capable of 40v, so that way when I decide to buy a snow blower that is only 40v, I now have some batteries to play with
