Privileged to have seen them live in Toronto three or four years ago, when they were too young to drink in the bar they were playing in (and got them to sign the back of my shirt while I was still wearing it, also I got to meet their mum at the merch table). There's nothing like hearing a room full of Canadians yelling out the lyrics in te reo Maori. Absolutely meteoric band, and great guys too.
_"Roo ah-na tay fen-oo-ah"._ In the Māori language (Te Reo Māori) "wh" is pronounced as an "f". (This is a bit of a simplification) Te Reo Māori is enjoying a resurgence in New Zealand over the last few decades. It's very common nowadays for public signage to be in both English and Te Reo, and even Parliamentary proceedings often begin in Te Reo before switching to English. There's currently a push to make Te Reo compulsary in schools, the only issue is getting enough fluent speakers as teachers to be able to make it a nationwide curriculum.
Kia ora hello from aotearoa New Zealand hope you are doing well . Hay i saw these dudes at the power station in Auckland about two years ago? I can't believe it's been that long ago I'm 52 and running out of time the years go by faster and faster bla bla bla These guys live are WICKED GOOD and their crowd interaction is first class THEY UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE ONE it's not we're up here high on stage and you are just punters handing them money even told us the pub they were going to after the show come and hang out with us. They know without us they're just having a jam and that for us without we're just looking at our feet wondering why they can't dance and have a slam GOOD GUYS IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY 😜
