I tried to fix a dying city with Tram Suburbs in Cities Skylines

  • In this episode, we're taking the first steps in tackling a growing demographic issue throughout the region of Coniferia, as thousands of people have retired within the last few years - without much replacement from younger generations. This has resulted in some 37 % of the population being seniors, putting a strain on tight finances. To fix this, we've got to start expanding with new neighbourhooods - and we have to make sure that they have the needed amenities for people wanting to establish new families - such as childcare, elementary school and high schools, commercial services and a good supply of affordable apartments and houses!

    - What's the rationale behind this project:
What happens if a washed-up-used-to-be-UA-camr gathers a bunch of "generic" looking assets (though mostly inspired by Australian / Canadian cityscapes) with the hopes of creating a Cities: Skylines region full of towns and cities that both look realistic and are inspired by Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, while at the same time don't really replicate any one particular style? No idea, let's find out.
Join me in this Cities: Skylines modded gameplay / let's play / timelapse series as we expand the region, and build new infrastructure, highways, public transit, industrial pockets, NIMBY-neighbourhoods, sprawling suburbs and bustling downtowns. And of course, use tress excessively to cover up any imperfections!
    Q & A:
Do you have a MOD/Asset list?
Step 1: Get the Skyve mod from Steam workshop: steamcommunity...
Step 2: Get the Coniferia MOD collection here: pixeldrain.com...
Step 3: Use Skyve profile feature to import the MOD collection.

26:55 - Uff, dropping an interstate exit directly onto an intersection with trams running perpendicular is going to be *the* RTC hotspot in the entire region...

Great build as always. Proposing the name *Sloane Commons* for the new neighbourhood, with the following lore to support:
_Prior to development, the site of the neighbourhood was a logging plantation owned industrialist Mitchell Dudley Sloane. Upon his death, the property was inherited by his daughter Lady Kiara Sloane Mosman who eventually converted the land into a residential area. That village (encompassing the single family area of the neighbourhood and the main street) became known as _*_Sloane Park._*_ Lady Kiara and her husband had no children of their own; and without heirs, decided to donate their fortune to the establishment of a college located in near the original Sloane Park settlement. A separate neighbourhood (towards the shore and closer to the highway) emerged around the college to support the students and faculty, known as _*_College Commons._*_ Municipal reforms by the territorial government saw the two neighbourhood amalgamated into the City of Port Douglas under the combined name _*_Sloane Park/College Commons_*_ to reflect their distinct feel. That name was eventually changed to the shorter _*_Sloane Commons._*

Very nice build. I like the fact that you decided to simplify some things in your build style while still maintaining a high level of detail and realism. It’ll help your build survive longer. Well done.

Hi Infra, lovely good old Coniferia episode, enjoyed it so much! New tram extensions are always welcomed, you know😏 Thank you for what you accomplish) Couple micro suggestions to consider: 1) New off ramp should only have right turn to avoid blocking trams, otherwise it duplicates the other ramp; 2) Tram tracks are not dedicated but that’s manageable until there is enormous traffic flowing through Elk hills to western side of the island; 3) Tram tracks on roundabout with an off ramp can lead to a disaster, as a major you can detour tracks from the road under the overpass, where they will merge with depot infrastructure and then flow into the road back again, in this case you will also eliminate need in that tram tunnel, which can be buried and it will open space for more medium size development on the east side of that major road win-win)
Just a small ask, if you could make a birds view shoot on Port Douglas in the next episode, so that we can play with current and future public transit😅 Anyway, you are the best in CS! Cheers, Michael

I love this suggestion; especially, suggestion 3. The tram tunnel always seemed like overkill just to connect with the depot, when a more direct, surface level turn could suffice. If a tunnel is used, I would run the tunnel under the roundabout to connect the tram line to the new areas of the town. Because, a tram line running through a roundabout that connects to a major highway offramp is bound to create some traffic issues eventually.

This would definitely be a neighborhood that I would like living in, and in my opinion it has one of the best neighborhood designs out there. Hail trolly suburbs!

In the first episode, where you start placing down the big buildings, at 3:01 you place a residential building that’s Rico ready and I really like the building design, so I’ve been searching for the building ever since the video came out, and I was wondering if you know what the asset is. (I’m thinking about including the building in my own series).

Man ur so creative, the city extension turned out very good looking 👏👏
Btw, one thing I thought about was that the trees/forest in front of the expensive single homes at the top of Elk Hills were a little too dense and too tall. They would probably "demand" a better view of the ocean+city👍

Another fantastic video, Elk hills looks great, but maybe you should add a park or two, some tennis courts, a skate park, basically anything like that, for children and young families, anyway thanks again, already looking forward to seeing your next upload, Cheers 😀👍

How about Brookelynn? (Pronounced "Brooklyn".) The back story was that there was in the 1920s a developer named Henry Stanford Leavitt who bought a farm from a horse farmer named Scott Quincy Addams, who had a daughter named Brooke Lynn Addams. Mr. Addams wanted Mr. Leavitt to name his planned new streetcar suburb after the daughter. So Brookelynn was born.

New Coniferia episode? Yes please! And what an enjoyable one at that. I love the look or Elk Hills. Even if you don't detail a lot (for your standard) what you create still looks realistic and beautiful!

I really like the build but I question if a roundabout is the most suitable traffic solution given that the tram tracks run there too. I would propose running that small segment under or above the roundabout. Please, please, please build a university campus next.

If you want to know, single family houses are best for young families in USA, but in Europe like Poland medium and high density is good too. Childrens can play with others whole day in the playgraunds near the home (always there are some), and in the future they are more likely to find a girlfriend/boyfriend. Thats interesting how America and Europe are diffrent.

Great video!! One thing I wanted to suggest, if it is even possible, the fill area with intersection marking tool that you did under the tram tracks, could that be filled with a brick decal? In sone suburbs of Boston, the tracks were laid long ago and on bricks, which are still under the tracks, it just looks cool. I really love this build and would love to see how the airport was fixed in more detail at some point as I am pretty bad at making Airports and could learn from your experience.
