10 Fragrances/House That Are Overpriced

- Hey guys, how are you all doing? today's topic is about fragrances or fragrance Houses in general which I find personally are too overpriced at "RETAIL", from my journey, some of these I do own but I never paid retail or the rip off "Discontinued" prices from Ebay or Amazon. This is not a list of all the fragrances/Houses which are overpriced, but some examples from my experience . Do share you thoughts, do you agree or disagree, if disagree, your reason would be valuable for other members. and I have kept aside personal sentiments or weak spot for any fragrances aside in this video, meaning, even if I loved it(eg: Angel's Share), I did not suggest it as reasonable as the retail on these are so high. once again, these are strictly my sentiments, I have nothing against these brands or fragrances.
Please suggest in the comment section, what fragrances/Houses you guys feel are charging too much just for the brand name.

I agree with most of these. Especially Creed retail prices are outrageous.
And the fragrances mediocre

Roja Dove should have been on here great quality but not 5* as much as other brands and many of the scents can be achieved by buying many Joboy Floris or Geurlian fragrances.Roja in my veiw is what Creed was brilliant at selling for an overcharged price the idea of Luxury and exclusivity.When in truth the house is simply a well executed fabrication of the heritage of upper class luxury appealing to the sentiment of snobs.
Amen! I checked out a few Roja decants. Their stuff is really good generally, but there are many other great fragrances out there for a lot less.
Before I even think of buying any fragrance, your page is the first I come to and hope you have reviewed it... Your opinions are always my go to and honestly, all perfumes I have gotten based on your recommendations have been 💯
Almost every niche brand and most of designers are ripping us off.
The costs of producing a fragrance are marginal, that's why so many brands want to create fragrances - easy money.
I was making fragrances for me and my family using only natural absolutes, essential oils, tinctures etc.
And guess what - 100 ml of EDP (including a fragrance mix, alcohol, distilled water, a bottle and a really nice box) amounted to 10-15 USD. Highly concentrated, all natural fragrance.
Now imagine buying everything in bulk, using fixatives, synthetic fragrance oils and having resources for mass production.

Congratulations, I am a fragrance collector and I bought s book on perfume making so I can learn to make my own fragrances.
@@techguyml yeah I did, try it. 10 ml of lavender essential oil is 10 PLN which is 2 USD (one week ago I scooped 30 ml bottle of cold pressed French lavender oil for 15 PLN during sales), 5 grams of iris absolute is around 40 PLN - 8.8 USD. Carrier oil, for example jojoba is 11 PLN for 100 ml. Etc.
You use tiny amounts of raw materials and carrier oil of your choice. You let your oils mix together for a while. You check your composition.
Then you figure out how much alcohol and distilled water you need. Now it's time for maceration.
You can also do your own tinctures. You buy vanilla sticks, chop them up and put into high proof alcohol for a couple of weeks.
It's really affordable and fun.
There is packaging, shipping, wages, legal, reformulations due to changing legislation, etc. Also, the actual smell is what you are paying for. The artistry. It may not cost much to make, but the skill to create that scent is where the money goes. That is why a niche scent is much more than a designer. It takes a lot of skill to create something truly unique. Something like Aventus was huge when it came out as it was a very skilled and unique creation. You are paying for that.

More and more reviewers need to be like you, bold and honest in UA-cam and Fragcom to really come out and tell us both (Perfume makers and perfume wearers) the truth about pricing. I think we need more of such videos (please make it a series sir), possibly seperate videos on Overpriced Fragrances, and videos on Overpriced Fragrance houses. I wish you fast recovery, God's mercy and well-being. Thank you for this very important video.

Joy u are absolutely right about YSL la nuit de l’homme. I have mine which I bought in 2019 now it’s so strong and projection is really good.
Same thing happened to Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Essence over the years the juice color has changed from bluish to some sort of brownish color and the performance has gone to the roof.
But this behavior is common with middle Eastern fragrance the more they seat the more they mature in performance.
You were right about Light Blue Eau Intense + Mandarin Musk. Wore it today, and it was gorgeous!

I was just watching Chad (A Gentleman’s Journey) and Curly Scents talking about Bond No. 9 being overpriced. I wondered “which other houses do people think are overpriced?” Then I saw this video. Good video, Joy.
You can get Bonds for great prices on discount if you keep an eye out

I bought nishane mana for rm1350. It is a good quality perfume. Now, the price is higher rm1480. I m shocked for this. Thank Allah I bought it earlier.

Oud Wood is the only one I’d buy again and even that is becoming hard to do with the number quality clone / inspired by fragrances..

Dear Joy, I enjoy your work very much , if possible can you do a review or highlight some traditional perfumes for men ? Without all the caramel and vanilla. Just oud, leather and sandal, something warm oudy and natural leather smells. Dry woods that kind of thing. Although I am a westerner I like my oud cheesy, barnyard animalic.

I agree with what you're saying.. The Sauvage line is pricy ( purchased 60ml Sauvage Parfum for 98.00) but I do believe the quality is good for the price. 159.00 for 60ml Sauvage Elixir is too high, but if I can get it for around 120-125.00 I'll snatch it. But yes, I do believe that the house is a bit overpriced but not necessarily overrated.
Sauvage is wack ew. Just buy something cheap, it has a lot of clones now anyway.
Hello Joy Bhai. Just wanted know whether or not you have tried Montale Intense Pepper. Such a beautiful perfume to my nose. If this is with you, kindly review the same for us.Price is a bit high but the quality is very high grade.
In Australia we pay $205 for 60ml sauvage elixir you only need 2 sprays to last all day
Now compare this to eg 50ml Nishane fragrances which retail here for $280 and you need 4 or 5 sprays except for Hacivat 2 sprays but 50 ml of this is $330
60 ml of sauvage elixir at 2 sprays will last me quite a long time compared to nishane which by the way I love this house

There are plenty of overpriced fragrance house but for me, it has to be Tom Ford and coming in close second is Creed.

I agree many of the ones you listed are over priced and I think much of that goes to advertisement. I have a number of them in my collection to include what you listed as number one and two but I always buy from discounters or partial bottles....would never purchase these high end frags from a retailer.
Even if they are 50 ml, I am very interested to put in my collection Megamare and Terroni from Orto Parisi. What you think about them? Not starting from the fact that they are 50 ml as I said earlier. LOL

Dior Sauvage Elixir is great, but I agree that it's overpriced. I'd prefer to pay less and get the EDP.

Production cost of perfume is not that expensive, Jeremy vlog about this, it is less than $10 US yet perfume companies are pricing it very high, and maybe others are mixing it with synthetic ingredients because some ingredients are banned. I think people should not buy expensive fragrance because it is robbery and we should not tolerate that. If we do this prices of this expensive fragrances will drop.
I love the house of Bottega Veneta, but their fragrances are so expensive with bad performance. I wish they were more affordable.

FM dessert gems use real oud, that is why!! Those are not made for everyone. Use perfumes that have an oud accord instead!

I disagree with the point on Aventus. If you know perfumery, depending on the ingredients and certain "creative" changes there will be batch variations. It's not Creed making people buy batch variations, it's the morons that keep telling people which is the best batch and creating reformulation panic.

Hi Joy, it’s true some houses are too expensive for what they offer. Imho they want to place themselves on the luxury range and many people will pay the price for the prestige. To each one their own ❤️
Kilian, Creed, and MFK are ridiculously overpriced. Amouage and PDM are too much as well. Don’t get me started on Dior Sauvage. Chanel is tripping too on BDC.

I've paid 100 euros/dollars for Elixir, i think it's ok(very good performances and the overall smell). The prices for a Chanel , even Dior, Armani have soared. For example, for the latest Acqua di Gio parfum , at the discounter, u'll have to pay 80 euros/dollars for 75 ml...For a Chanel, let's say Bleu de chanel edt-100 ml, u'll pay 110 euros. For EDP, parfum, or Allure line u'll pay much more. I have all of them, they are good but the edt and many from Allure line has medium or less longevity. The latest from Tom Ford(noir extreme parfum)...175 euros for 50 ml and 200 for 100 ml...that's outrageous, I rather choose something else from Andy Tauer or other niche house..
If you ask me in my opinion most of all noche house are overpriced

I totally agree with you. Personally, I have come to realise that there is no justification for charging or paying over $150. For example the aroma of Nikos Sculpture is just as good as Amouage Reflection Man (& I say this as a huge fan of Amouage). These high end brands put the idea of luxury fragrances in your head so you are willing to pay more, but in reality you can smell just as good wearing something like a Lattafa for $20.

Just to be clear, Sculpture isn't a clone of Reflection, although they are very similar. Another great cheapie that is close to Reflection is Jacques Bogart Silver Scent & Jacques Bogart Pour Homme is close to Xerjoff Naxos. All of them under £20.
