Thankfully I came across your channel whilst searching for V7 reviews. I’m glad I did. Apart from a golden voice you have audio engineering and acoustics talent too. A rare combination. And that makes your opinion pure gold for me.. btw, just in case - sE Electronics offers the 7x capsule in a V7 body in the Miles Kennedy MK edition for a few extra quids. Greetings from India.
On the V7 MI the foam under the grill it’s a little bit thicker compare the one that the regular V7 has, You should try the V7 MK with the V7 grill and you gonna have better results, less plosive, definitely a wonderful Mic!
Thank you sir for all your mic videos. I just ordered a V7 and hope to have clearer lower mids right off the bat. I've flirted with other mics but always went back to a 58. The V7x mod is interesting too. Who knows maybe I'll end up with that model as well.
Thanks a lot for this quality content ! I would like to replace my old and tired beta 58 with the Beyerdynamic TG V70d or Sennheiser e945 or OM7 Audix ... I practice human beatbox and singing on a loopstation so i need good feedback rejection, tolerance to plosives just near the capsule and versatility ... Have a good day Mr Browne
Thank you so much for the comparison, Anton. That's very helpful. I think the bass response is clearer on V7x while the V70d has more sibilance. If you wanted to use it for voice overs, which one of these two mics would you choose?
Thank you Anton. Don't worry about carrying on, it's part of the fun and joy of your reviews. I find it interesting to listen to your reviews with different headphones. My thought while I watched the second time: I would love to hear you review some worthy mics with different headphones. Your DT770s are merciless on bright and slightly distorted treble. I suspected before from just their frequency plot, but I bought some to confirm my suspicion. Many headphone nerds swear by the Sennheiser HD600s or HD650s. I don't; I find these models overly dull. A bit like AM radio :( However, if microphone designers are making mics for live tweeterless PA's or tuning with such "dull" frequency response curves in speakers and cans, it makes sense that they don't recognize the presence boost and the 7-10kHz sizzle as annoying. And my guess is that you might not roast some of these mics' bright top ends as hard were you to review them on a set of "standard" dull cans. I don't doubt you have noticed what you have noticed and reported what you have found (I trust your ear more than most, even using the DT770s), but it is the scale of the differences that would be different. I think that the nuances of your reviews would increase, especially in your breath/speed tests. In fact, I've found my SR40V almost sounds muted [!] because the treble is so controlled (or flat). And I wonder about the KMS105 and the general 100-200 Hz "push" that you continually find doesn't work with your voice (we baritones may disagree :) I suspect, however, that this push is also unnaturally amplified by the DT770s. They have just that kind of boost with unhelpful bookend drops at either end, around 80 and 225 Hz, which accentuate the push. I better stop before prattling on about the non-existence of a literally flat frequency response in cans. Thumbs up from Canada.
Yes, always difficult to know what affect one's headphones have. I edit the videos with Beyerdynamic open backed hi-fi headphones (can't find model no.) which are quite smooth, so I get a slightly different insight from these.
Would u say the V7 X maybe a little softer on mids & highs that the regular V7 ? I’ve noticed vocal belting on the regular V7 can need a little att on higher mids
@@AntonBrowne beta 58 sounds poorer than beyer v70 (maybe for my voice) I've compared them. but I think that beta 87 will sound closer to the Beyer. I hope you'll have the opportunity to compare them one day🙂
To my ears the Beyerdynamic has a much more pleasing sound than the others. The sE doesn’t sound bad on its own, but right after the other it sounds a bit like the sound is coming through a tube.

Great video as always !!

I would definitely choose the sE for voice overs, though you may need a pop filter.

I think that is the case. The X is fairly flat across it's response.
@@AntonBrowne cool good to know 😊 thanks
compare shure beta 87 vs beyerdynamic v70😊
Good idea, thanks. I don't have a beta 87, I will have to make do with my beta 58.
