Yes, it's a vegan tax when it's intentional made vegan but when it is accidentally vegan it's cheaper that's why I focus mainly on whole plant foods with the occasional vegan junk processed foods.
Agreed. Think some of it is how government subsidies for animal products make them cheaper than plant-based. Let’s make sure we tell our elected officials that we want equal subsidies for plant-based food.

I feel the saaaame. I have been using gardeins fish fillet, cooking them and removing the breading and putting it into a food processor and it tastes just tuna! It can be a little pricey though so I look for sales.

There's actually a vegan restaurant near me that does a vegan charcuterie board. Not that hard nowadays especially with Miyokos products, though this restaurant makes everything from scratch.
I'm in Toronto too and I just checked the app of my nearest grocery store and they have none if any of these products. Candace where do you get these products from/which grocery stores do you recommend for a beginner vegan in Toronto (Yorkville area)?

@@j.s.1270 those hot dog sausages look great. we do have a lot of vegan sausage options all over europe but in my experience american and canadian meat replacements are simply better, mostly texture wise. plus, i rarely see any small local brands in stores here (like the second halloumi they tried), it’s mostly big brands. but that ofc could also depends on which part of the EU

I think the stadium dogs are meant to be like nathans famous, which are used at most baseball games. Which are thinner those are the only vegan hot dogs i will eat. I could not believe how good they were. I didn’t even need a bun with them. Yum!!
Honestly I didn't like the grilled cheese when I had it a fews years ago. I ended up battering it with a spiced fish pakora style batter. Nice alternative to mozzarella sticks and was good with a salad.
Most of the Field Roast products I've tried have been legit delicious. I use the fennel & garlic italian sausages a lot with pasta. YUM. I'll DEFINITELY be seeking out these Stadium dogs!

I got falsely excited when I saw the hot dogs because I mixed the packaging up with carrot "hot dogs" I saw the other day. I don't remember the brand. It's literally just 5 or 6 carrots in marinade for ~$7 which I'm not about to buy but would love to see someone's reaction to.

It is meant to be like halloumi, which is a Mediterranean cheese that is grilled. It’s very popular in the UK, not sure about Canada, but you can also buy it at international/middle-eastern grocery stores and Trader Joe’s in the US.

i have a feeling if u mixed wheat gluten with tofu u could make a halloumi. i made a seitan wellington last year with too much tofu last year and it had a very halloumi like texture

There are some vegan coca cola gummies sold here in the Netherlands (moved here at end of 2019) at Jumbo (well, the one I am near)! My husband loves them, I was never a big fan of coca cola gummies before-hand. // The fact those smell like a 'fish market' would put me so off (makes me think of growing up in the PNW and going to Pike Place as a kid, only been twice), I liked the flavor of fishsticks prior going Vegan as a kid, also seeing it doesn't have nori/seaweed in the ingredients is encouraging as that often hurts my stomach and never been a fan of fish prior. // I have never tried halloumi prior to going vegan, but, I do like violife, so I'd be up for trying that.

I had the liquid version of the egg patties and it was horrible. It scrambled very oddly and I took one bite and threw the rest out 🥲 It was oddly textured and I flavored it with seasoning and it was still bad
Field roast is junk food but I like their flavor profile the best. Those hotdogs were the only vegan dogs worth buying imo. Maybe it's because I never was a hotdog person when I ate meat. I like Smart Sweets but it is for weening off of sugar. They are too expensive for a lifestyle food. They do catch the craving for gummies. I got the sourpatch kind. I eat them 2-4 at a time and try not to chew.
I think you raise good points about the price point of vegan options. Why not investigate the reasons behind the differences? Think some of it is because of government subsidies for animal products. This is not the manufacturer’s fault directly. We must tell our elected officials that this must change and support organizations that lobby for these changes.

I'm sure some of this stuff is not bad tasting. But, the main tenet of WFPBD is not to eat processed foods. What can be more processed than all of thes faux products? So, don't say they're healthy. To,occasionally eat one of these seems OK, as a change. Eating these products continually is a very bad idea.
I think it's all about making progress towards vegan alternatives! I'm sure the more we get the conversation going about creating healthier vegan options, companies will start to innovate towards improving quality of food!

Im vegan. And i found that you have to try it. Because not everyone has the same taste. I would rather make my own vegie patties. They are so good. But what you dont like, someone else might. I love Field Roast hot dogs, and the sausages are good. Some of them. But everyone has their own opinions. What you find disgusting, might taste good to someone else.
I agree about home made veggie patties. They are so easy to make tasty. There's no need to try to make them taste like meat, because most patties made of vegetables are very good. Tasty, filling, handy.

Not sure where you live but I've found the stadium dogs at Whole Foods. They are the closest to real hot dogs I've found.
Uptons natural hot dog sausages are good too. I never have had the stadium hot dogs but i really loved the fishsticks.

Have you tried the ones by Quorn? They’re probably the best ones I’ve tried. Gardein’s fishless filets are a close second.
