  • In this video I describe how I make logos for my large scale model trains. If you have a G scale or 16 mm to the foot railway and you have your own fictional railroad logo then this may be a good alternative. It’s an easy mod to your trains.
I model the Canadian Northern Railway as if it existed (albeit in poor financial health) for a few more decades past when it was absorbed into the Canadian National. I have made waterproof Canadian Northern paper logos and affixed them to my old modified and repainted Bachmann passenger cars, my modified and repainted Aristocraft caboose, now to my LGB Drover’s Caboose (as seen in this video), and to my American Mainline (AML) by Accucraft USRA 0-6-0 live steam locomotive.
Instead of running my USRA during the running part of this video, I ran my new Roundhouse Engineering Sandy River 24 engine because I’ve had it only a few days and want to try it with various railcars. In addition to my Canadian Northern cars I threw in a couple of billboard reefers by USA Trains.
    Happy modelling!
    Terry

Great idea, particularly for the larger scales. Thanks for sharing this Terry.

You’re welcome Paul. I’ve done this to decent effect on O toy trains as well.

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of an RC live steam locomotive, seems like a great idea! Another very enjoyable video, thanks Terry.

Thanks! Until now my engines have been hand operated only. More and more people I know have been running their live steam and electric models with radio control.
This engine is my first RC engine. I must say I am very impressed! One servo for the steam regulator and one for the Walschaerts valve gear and it has opened up amazing operational possibilities.

I would say that the majority of small-scale live steam engines have radio control. The ones that can pull people tend to be controlled manually (though not all) but the "garden scales" which are live steam engines that are generally too small to practically haul people are very frequently equipped with radio control on the regulator and reverser. Using modern R/C products, it's easy to install and equally easy to get rid of, depending how you feel about it. Personally I like manual control so my models don't have R/C. But if I decided in the future that I fancied remote control, I could install it in about half an hour. It's actually easier to install R/C in the cab of a live steam engine than it would be in an electric train.

@@jetporterInstalling the RC in my Accucraft USRA 0-6-0 was challenging due to the small amount of room in the cab and the tender space is a bath for the butane tank. But we did it!

Some good tips. Looks like you're enjoying the benefits of RC on your new loco 😃👍

I absolutely am enjoying the RC! To be honest, pound for pound, I think my Accucraft 0-6-0 is as good an engine. It’s actually more powerful and goes through a little less water and fuel. However, the RH 24 is more robustly built. Better build I’d say. I think I love them both the same for different reasons. Now, after this experience I must install RC in my USRA 0-6-0!

Haven’t been getting notifications from your vids mate and missed a load, I thought you said you were going to order a Basic Range Sammie the Sandy Rivers a bit of an upgrade isn’t it?! Iv made some good progress on getting my 5 inch gauge loco and Ill be joining a club in the new year.

First, I received your parcel yesterday! Amazing book! I sent a message to Tapatalk. Well, yes, I had ordered a Sammie to see what the quality of RH is, having no experience with one. The Sandy River came to me via a friend of a friend. The price was too good to be true. Not much more than Sammie. I kid you not. So I cancelled the Sammie but instead ordered a Bertie in 32 mm gauge, War Department grey with WD logo. That will become my best 32 mm gauge engine and for use with my WD decorated Swift Sixteen wagons.

@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi I thought you’d just gone on a shopping spree, what a bargain they are nice locos but Iv not seen many of them, looking forward to seeing the Bertie and Ill have a look at Tapatalk and get back you there later.
Iv not had chance to run anything in while with the days so busy and the sunlight so short but hoping to show my new carriages soon.
