- Jake Wise is one of our most successful TXSL drifters, and I thought it would be fun to break down how he wins for everyone. Things such as, did he build a car from scratch, did he engine swap it, what suspension stuff does he do, how often does the car break, how does he practice, and so on. So please enjoy this little video about the little 350z that could.
If lone star events had the media coverage of clutch kickers, then Texas would also be the place to be for the big names. I think we need more livestream coverage and narration of event, even for the fun events, it would bring more eyes to the sport at a grass roots level.

Great advice on how to get started! It's crazy how Jake is so consistentwhile still being agressive. I've had my own issues with being consistent during battles and overdriving my car, but its crazy how good the competition was in TXSL. Also Assetto Corsa is definetly the way to go, I had almost 800 hours with a Logitech G29 and cheap eBay Handbrake, and another couple hundred hours with VR and a Thrustmaster T300. You can learn to tandem as agressive without worrying about actually wrecking a car. It definetly translates to real life if you take it seriously.
9:28 If you live in a cold climate where it snows or rains often, the best thing you can do is get a very basic beater car and drive as much as you can on snow and in the wet. Those sort of conditions are extremely good as you get almost no wear on the car and you get to drive for thousands of miles, hours upon hours of driving. I personally have never gotten into sim drifting but I've had so many "beater" cars over the years that I took to the mountain roads whenever it rained or snowed. This experience taught me so much I cannot even begin to explain the benefits of how important it is to start in more slippery conditions. Driving for 200+ hours per winter season without even snapping an axle. Snow drifing is actually very different that regular drifting, but drifting in the wet is very close to dry so do as much of that before going serious into drifting comps, etc. I did 2-3 years of rainy touge driving before I got into dry track driving.

I agree with the SIM time. I have 1400 hours in Assetto, and Chris Licup and Bobby Hill both have said that I have progressed from the start of Tsujigiri Collective, and I have recently upgraded to a full sim setup (Simagic Alpha Mini DD, Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals, TH8A, and a GT Omega Classic Wheel Stand with a seat add-on and my NRG seat added). I started on a TMX, to a T300RS, to a Simagic DD.
really good advice. definitely the way to do it now a days. unfortunately im one of the old guys that had to build it themselves. lol. if i ever get another full drift car....its a vette. lmfao

Now that clutch kickers is gone you guys should try to do something similar.
It would be awesome if you guys do some organized production of the TXSL competition events. Similar to FD, watching top 16 battles with good footage
I think the bit about "not caring about crashing the car" is the difference between winning TXSL and not. It's so close that, like you said, 8/10 is not enough for top 4 battles.

The comment on not needing a dog box has got me thinking, what if you went fully outside the box on drivetrain? No transmission, for the same money as a dogbox you can get a 20kg electric system that puts out 40+ horsepower and boost your 0-15mph roll since you don't have a low gear to start in. Less parts to break, you're changing ratios at the track in the rear end anyway, you would have better drivetrain efficiency and be able to deploy the electric 40 horsepower at full throttle so your 600 horsepower engine translates to nearly 600 at the tire.
Of course the first person who does it is not paying "same as a dogbox" since it's gonna need a custom flywheel/bellhousing/driveshaft setup engineered, but to me it sounds as viable as the electric Camaro that attempted pro1.
If you really want to get out of the mold, skip the clutch and just run it direct drive like dirt track cars, even simpler setup but at that point you really need to trust the electric system and tune to bring rpm back up after a hard handbrake pull.

Man I’ll have to get a sim then. Not sure it’ll happen this year since I have a massive budget going towards the mustang but if not this year than def next year.
PNW don’t have jack sh^^ for competitions. Evergreen Drift Grassroots is not that motivating to attend. Maybe I should force myself to do more comps next year.

assetto has been so great for drifting as a whole. The nickel and dime pieces people always forget when pricing things out and realizing it adds up more than the big stuff. building a car is def not for everyone and most the time it's better to buy something 80% complete/running someone gave up on.
On a fanatec wheel if you just turn up the dampening to much it will slow down the wheel to the point where it won't keep up with your transition...

If you drive not caring if you crash your car because you know you can afford anything, you can bring more to the line and you are a threat as a driver. Kevin is a hell of a driver but homie has to drive his car back home. I personally hate body work and hate working on broken shit🤷♂️

Press the clutch before spinning out, try to figure out quickly at how much max countersteering your car still keeps the drift with stock angle
Lots of air pressure, also think about reinforcing the rear sub frame.

I have assetto corsa with a thrustmasters t300rs with the pro pedals.
And he is right! I’m a Honda boy i started drifting in assetto and i was able to control drift a RWD car like it was natural even i was surprised lol 😆
Thats so funny im selling my harley so i can by a salvage car just to get on the track no goodies just streight stock car so i can get into this sport my wife said i cant spend any money i have to sell something to get the blessing to start this adventure and i will make it happen!!!
In short be good
1. How do you learn to "tune" a car? Like tire size and wheel size ect.
2. I bought a turn key drift car once.. smoked the clutched 2nd event (it was toast. They didn't tell me.). Headlights were ghettoed wired. trans gridded 3rd gear and 4th. (he only told me 3rd). Only selling point was is the price was decent but it had a welded rear, and coils. dual caliper setup with hydro. Car also is painted the stupidest color and looks bad
3. How do you learn to tune a virtual car? and know what game is teaching you the correct stuff?

1) high performance academy have a course online. I've done the basic wheel alignment one.

bro always cust people off when they talk.... this guy will ask you 6 different questions they start talking about sum else b4 you can even answer 1 of the questions.. I mean dang when is someone who he interviews gon say sum.. besides that I appreciate his love and drive for the drift community but that doesn't mean he shouldn't care about the small things like a proper interview techniques

Yeah, building a car is technically “stupid”. It’ll cost more & take more time. Buy a built car and you’ll get it for half the price they spent to build it & it’s good to go...
@@itsmikelake building cars is expensive i agree. but stupid, not so much. its all preference. personally i dont mind getting a lap or two in friends cars until mine is done and i can shred for a whole day.
