As the literal aspect of the creation of the Abyss, it's pretty nifty how, according tot he other demon lords, such an unsuspecting and minor demon lord is one of the most ancient and probably the single most important demon in all of the Abyss. Demogorgon's self imposed demon prince tittle be damned if Juiblex ever decided to actually get up and do something. He's basically the truest "Demon" of them all presently except maybe the few obrynths left such as Dagon and the former prince Obox-ob that still remain. Also ont he count of other demon lords trying to classify Juiblex as Tanar'ri or Obrynth, the explanation here as the "wound of the abyss" seems more like he is a completely unique demon unto himself which I love.
The Prince of demons is far from weak. Demogorgon secured his title by slapping the other two contenders silly. And Juiblex doesn't care who the leader is so long as he gets to cause his own brand of wanton destruction just like a good demon. Juiblex just has no patience for politics. Or any being he cannot completely dominate like he does his slimes. If anything it is strange that there are at least three demons who have the inclination to enough tolerance to form kingdoms...
In Pathfinder, Jubilex (this spelling is canon in D&D but only Juiblex is licenced) has been expanded on somewhat. He is still a slob of a power, originating as a mindless qlippoth (obyrith) lord which simply consumed all it happened across until he absorbed a belligerent forgotten demon lord of poison and caverns and gained his powers and connection to sin. As such, Jubilex is associated with sloth, poison, and also substance abuse - alcoholics and drug abusers, poisoners of own bodies and minds, can find their way into his cults in indifference for anything but things that can net them more craven stuff. Pathfinder also introduces omoxes, the ooze demons, the desecrators of beauty - these humanoid-shaped molten piles of filth often act as Jubilex's evangelists, though they could be found in employ of most demon lords. It is also stated that Jubilex's domain is connected with most of Abyssal metropoli via portals in their sewage systems and dump pits - thus, an unfortunate escape can net your plane-hopping adventurers in far greater heap of trouble than they might realize at first.
I wonder why no one has seemed to point out that as a being that was formed from the chaos of the abyss being made and is in fact an avatar and representation of the chaos and depravity of the abyss, that Juiblex's nature and abilities to translate into more abstract areas. Not only is he physically shapeless and chaotic but you could even go further and add that as he was the first thing formed by the shard of evil and manifested from the abyss itself, he has the ability to connect to the abyss that no other demon lord has and also doesn't have the same restrictions as other demon lords. It reminds me of the line from the Immortal Hulk when the Devil Hulk says, "I don't do rules" then proceeds to break the laws of nature by almost breaking vibranium with a punch or being alive and able to move even when his body is cut to pieces while then reforming after the pieces are released. Take what Juiblex is to the abstract level and you've got a thing with almost no restrictions. Hell, I'd make him like The Thing from John Carpenter's movie and have Juiblex able to take any form and gain the abilities of those he consumes as he would be able to copy and adapt to anything. I'd love to see a situation where a demon lord realizes what Juiblex actually is and frighteningly exclaim, "You shouldn't be able to do things like this. It's impossible!", only for Juiblex to say, "Rules and restrictions are for those bound to shape and crafted by the intelligent hands. I was born from chaos itself. I AM THE ABYSS!"
Keep in mind Juiblex is just as shattered as the Abyss itself. He hasn't conquered all because he can't bring himself to focus enough to begin consumming all in earnest. What we see are the brief moments of coherency he has. Those are enough to achieve what he has. Should he ever manage true self mastery he could potentially take control of the whole Abyss and do what Obox-ob failed to do.
Juiblex has been one of my favorite Demon Lords since I first started playing almost ten years ago. He's the embodiment of the body horror one witnesses from Oozes and Slimes. The other Demon lords call him Lord of Nothing yet no one challenges him. Great video AJ. Also isn't it weird that the 5e stats for him don't have immunity to acid?
There’s a homebrew alchemist class with a subclass called slime rancher. You have a pheromone that charms oozes and can bottle them up to throw at enemies. Tempted to call him that!
I have a different idea of the relationship between the faceless lord and the oozes. They are literal extensions of him. He simply cannot divide his attention sufficiently to control them all at the same time. Thus there are uncounted numbers that are left to their own devices until something of interest happens near them. It doesn't matter to him if any one is destroyed because he is vast on an unimaginable scale. Are you aware and concerned when some dead skin flakes off? Same thing.
Recently, I ran a campaign where we were playing as a faction known as the Brotherhood Of Realms. It's basically the space program, but instead of space it's other realities.
So in away Jubilex could be seen as the most dangerous of all demon lords, whean others throw their follows at eachother in great wars in some grasp for more and temperor power, jubilex takes the long view. After all, life in the material plane came from single celled forms, or "primordial Ooze" and thus it all shall return to him. The lord of ooze might work slowly, but since his mineons are among the most unseen and neglected of all DnD denizens it might be he who stands triumphant in the end.
I like to think of jubilex as the heart of the abyss. Cant really destroy him... starts with trash becomes oozing muck, desire to judge turns into acceptance for wickedness
When I think of Juiblex, I think of Oozemasters (Masters of the Wild Pg.67). A cadre of Oozemaster cultists of the slime lord would be a fantastic encounter. A cavern with walls lines with slimes, oozes and jellies. All swirling around a chanting circle of Oozemasters summoning some avatar of Juiblex just as the adventurers walk in.
Jubilex definitely reminds me of the Dark souls boss Aldrich. A mass that does nothing but grow and consume. Slow but with purpose. It's given me inspiration for a few original demon lords of my own
is there a spell like " flesh to ooze"? if not it should be and specific to Jubilex´s followers. also, i think that demon lords should have a physical influence on demons in their service, that they take on aspects of their masters, like a marilith under Lolths control has arachnid features like spider fangs, eyes, arms and maybe even segmented snake tail. might be the case though.
Literally setting up for this right now. My players wanted to do a 9 Hells Campaign. Players picked a layer & decided to serve under Bael & try to help him conquer the 9. While this is happening, trough some sick ass intrigue & deals gone wrong Orcus has slain Graz'zt & now rules 4 layers of the Abyss. Bael, Lord of the 1-3rd & the players cant hold off the undead hordes forever so I'm working in Juiblex offering an tentative alliance to Bael bcz the spread of undeath kills off his food source & his long term goals to consume all living matter.
You know. The part of the Abyss where the Sibriex live is considered by some to be the elemental plane of flesh, and the Tanari to be flesh elementals, thus the concept that Juiblex is the festering of the wound where the shard of ultimate evil pierced the world.
This just makes me wonder why there aren't more creations of Juiblex all over the multiverse. He's always supposedly cranking out new slime monsters but the ooze category of monster in the books is woefully under-populated. Not to mention there's only a single ooze at CR 10 (Elder Oblex) and nothing beyond that, with most of them being lower than CR 5. Just begs the question of where all the supposedly big bad ooze experiments are at.
Grandaddy Poo! My favorite demon lord! Some years ago I ran a mock campaign called The Age of Slime and the levels of disgust were exceptional. Like Zugtmoy's marriage there was a conspiracy for unholy matrimony between Juiblex and Bwimb II in a giant mixer device of mind flayer design.
It is actually quite apt, when dealing with toxic substances, fungi often adopt this approach of staying as close to the surface as they possibly can. That's for example why old developing fluid gets covered in mold despite being horribly toxic to most microorganisms, the fungus can skim the surface and only absorb the nutrients while avoiding the toxic silver ions.
I've been sitting on a seed for an Abyss adventure for a while and now, having watched some of your vids, I got something REAL nasty and fun to plot out. I may never run a game again but I think this info, especially about the gooie boi, is crucial to a new adventure.
I respect Juiblex for doing what he loves and just fully ignoring literally everything that attempts to get in his way; nothing anyone does affects what he is doing in anyway. They think he doesn't matter, he is just trash without any will; and he knows they don't matter, they are just trash with will. reminds me of Bobby from King of the Hill, in the episode 'an officer and a gentle boy'; after failing the 'break' Bobby's willpower using every possible method, Hank and Cotton Hill muse that '[Bobby is like mush], you can't build him up, but you cannot break him down either. In a funny way, mush kind of has the edge.' the possible merging of the 528th layer of the abyss (6:19) with the 222nd (8:19, not 220th, despite what it says in the captions) layer makes me wonder about the nature of the abyss; it pulls locations, places, into itself by corrupting them, creating new 'layers' which are disconnected or connected together chaotically. of course random merging and splitting could occur, it is just pure chaos, but perhaps as things and places fall deeper into the abyss they will 'merge' more and more.
Liked this video before i watched it, was not disappointed, infact i was pro-pointed. Maybe all the demonlords really do "know" about juibilex, but they're just in denial to protect their egos as juibilex doesn't attack them. Playing the abyssal game of thrones, "pretending" as hot stuff, compensating for the inevitablility they'll never admit too. That said i doubt much in D&D could stand up to a demogorgan and dagon tag team.
Ever wonder how Demogorgon is gonna fuck up his ego/intelligence reintegration? Dagon is gonna be spying on them and get sucked in at the worst possible moment and thus, Demodagon is born🤐
I love Jubilex lore, so watched this when it came out, but was glad to have it to come back to as a refresher, just started a campaign as a cleric with the Ooze domain, thanks for an easy way to get a bunch of Jubilex lore without hunting it down over multiple sites.
That sounds super interesting. Do you mind me asking more on your homebrew/reflovor? I've been wanting to run a "cursed" hybrid PC who is part slime/ooze. Their "goal" is to find a cure to their curse but are merely a puppet to Jubilex looking for a special magical item to add to his collection. Been thinking about reflavoring the Echo Knight and they just summon a slime version of themself instead of a shadow. Also maybe the Unearthed Arcana Warlock: Lurker in the Deep and reflovor with Slime. Appreciate your time and hope you have a blessed day.
Early April 2020; using juiblex as the bbeg of a high level campaign for a discord corona distancing campaign. Oinoloths and spawns of kyuss, plus custom ooze mephits and larva mages. It's pretty great. My players united as a group of paladins. I killed 2 of them with a former silver dragon, current custom ooze dragon.
As the guy who always asks dragon related question I have to ask. Has there ever been a slime dragon or drake? Just asking has me thinking of a cult that uses a conglomeration of slimes to animated a dragon skeleton thinking it would gather them favor from juiblex. Or, actually just a cult that uses slimes and skeletons like that in general... My players are going to me. :-)
@@AmigoRoberto I'm thinking just taking more than one subclass for a melee character would be ideal. 20 Barbarian for the two +4s and some rage then maybe 80 fighter? Lol
@@AfroChef I agree that would be super cool. But by a 100 level you have to have some age under your belt as well and with age comes wisdom so slap em with Druid or wizard 20 I'd say
In many of my campaigns this particular Demon Lord has embodied the remains, or entrails if you will, possibly even the spiritual imprint, of The Shard of ultimate Evil, and therefore, the obyrith universe. Almost as though it was the excrement left over after all of the chaos of their dying Universe entered the mind of the Mad God, excreted, into the Elemental chaos. Always good to think about while eating.
I had an amazing idea where jubilee and the other person who’s basically his roommate, the mushroom lady, teamed up and the players had to deafest them while the demons lords created awful marsh room-slime creatures.
The massive lore of D&D is just awesome. They truly need to turn it into some kind of tv/streaming show. Everything about this video is just interesting and awesome.
Could they do it justice though? Same thing for 40k, it's too grand(and deep) to be done justice by alot of existing TV/streaming producers. Yeah this vid is epic.
@@thedarkmaster4747 maybe, maybe not. I just want them to try. Maybe do like AHS and instead of every season being a horror movie trope/theme,every season can be a different setting?. Start with a season based around Forgotten Realms, next can be Greyhawk, then Spelljammer, etc.
M Perez That said, i've seen some pretty good 40k shorts - that nail it. So i'm not saying it's impossible. But it'd probably get cancelled... Then again if "invader zim"(my favourite cartoon of all time) can come back - it's plausable. There are afew DnD movies out there though, but the overall quality(depth) isn't exactly and mostly on point. You could definitely find the actors for such an endeavour quite readily(if not in desperation to play such a part.) - so ofcourse i'd love to see it. But only in high fidelity and consistency(high quality). You could even connect each season through plot points/objects/spelljamming helms or prime plane travelling characters - feeding into a meta plot in a final season.
i hope to one day hear tale of all the devils and demons to ever exist in all sources. the forgotten the defeated and the yet unknown this video just proves i'll just have to be patients.
I have a theory That when the queen of chaos attacked the first ruler of the abyss She did it on a conceptual level right? What is what she did was split him in to many pieces and this is one of them It would explain a lot Following from that I think what she actually did was to break up the different domains of evil into their own grouping So originally the first ruler of the abyss was and almost all-powerful singular who held the domain of evil but when she did whatever it was it created a paradox which split him into many forms
Pretty much, yes. When you kill or imprison an elder god, the avatars of that god remain, now as seperated entities bereft of their original guiding purpose, but still as powerful as a god.
This sounds like the the ultimate power. Anything that has no interest on obtaining other things will dominate everything. Coolest character IMO and I don't even play D&D.
Based on the info given to me in MTOF, I was under the impression that Juiblex was essentially just a mindless Demon that was only a Demon Lord by default simply because he was just so strong that no other Demons around him could compete.
He has been described that way. I believe his intelegence is more animal cunning. Just slink around, and seem uninterested, and enemies will ignore you.... maybe anyway.
His intelligence arose gradually, but his awareness was incredible even from his first moments of existence. All the knowledge and no idea what to do with it, aside from a horrific realization, that he was the worst life form in the multiverse.
Damn. That is deep AJ.... being a Demon Lord sucks. I will just stick with my ant like existence, serving a deity I will never truly comprehend. Ignorance is bliss.
AJ: You, Sir, do your homework! I love the many details you provide that most of us would never know about. It makes me wonder how you manage to squeeze into all the inaccessible corners of the world in order to find this knowledge. Hmmm... 🤨
Oooooh boy. This guy here. My brother loved him, and seemed to find savage deligh in throwing his.... children at us in large numbers. Because..... I guess he hates armor, and slashing weapons.
Great video AJ. And to think, this AD&D demon lord is the great-great-great-grandson of The Blob. Who knew a mass of jelly animated amoeba-like to eat all organic life some science fiction horror movie people made would inspire such diverse monsters then their Abyssal lord?
"... a shapeless and utterly evil mass spawned from the very birth of the Abyss itself ..." so, are you saying that Jubilex is essentially the intelligent afterbirth left over from the birth of the Abyss? if so, perhaps the Abyss intends to eat Jubilex, or is even actively and constantly trying to eat Jubilex, in the way that mothers of some human cultures eat the placenta after childbirth. and the only thing that keeps Jubilex going is its own voracious and single-minded quest to consume everything else first. no wonder it doesn't have time to get involved in the schemes of other demons!
I love Juiblex when he is sentient as he's much more interesting than a Demonic slime mold. there just something so intriguing about this cunning, Lovecraftian, all loathing horror who prefers mindless oozes that he can use as both slaves and avatars although I personally believe that he uses his Oozes because he finds the independent minds of mortals are too much of a variable to be relied upon in his multiverse wide schemes.
Could also hand-wave it as different slime biology requiring diferent specific pH levels of acid to maintain their body structure, and acids of differing pH levels can massive tissue trauma if you want to keep the lack of immunity for balance reasons.
Juiblex, patron Demon Lord of "I'm not getting involved in this".

A demon/ooze hybrid. That would be a doozie

I'm surprised he hasn't sent out an email requiring the gelatinous cubes to be less shaped and symmetrical.
Seriously my favorite demon lord
I kinda wonder how Jublex feels about the Oblexes? Like will they be his commanders in his armies against the formed creatures?
Certainly!
On the world of Nirn, Juiblex is known as Peryite.
Can't get enough of your vids. My wife uses them to fall asleep but the keep me wide awake. Amazing work
LOL,. this is why some folks call me the Bob Ross of monsters.
Oh, yeaaa! Been waiting for your treatment of Juiblex 🤙
Excellent, as always
@@callmeb.o.b.824 Isn't mine, it is from Mage Hand Press' Middle Finger of Vecna post: mfov.magehandpress.com/2016/08/slime-domain.html
Crystal ooze, grey ooze, and black puddings are crazy.
The idea of olive slimes is one of my favorite ideas.
I've always thought that darkness given hunger has to be one of the best names ever given to a demon lords' servant. Great video as always AJ. 🍻
Juiblex sound even more weird and funny when said with a Mexican accent. “Huibleh”
😂❤️
I tried saying "the Mexican pronunciation" out loud and it think I've made a similar noise while slipping on ice😂
I* think
I’ve always found it funny that Spanish has 3 letters that essentially make the “H” sound, and none of them are “H”.
Being a warlock patron for this thing would be...unique.
There is a template that can be applied to any dragon type.
He's like a god-Shoggoth
MOre like Abhoth the Source of All Uncleanliness .
Its funny how the seed of the abyss was guarded by juiblex who came out at the birth of the abyss and asmodius needed to get it from him
I can see Juiblex and Wiliam Birkin in his final G form being poker buddies.
I think after level 50 I might start forgetting all of my abilities but level 100 sounds crazy
Had to rewind and make sure I didnt mishear him
@@AmigoRoberto I'm thinking just taking more than one subclass for a melee character would be ideal. 20 Barbarian for the two +4s and some rage then maybe 80 fighter? Lol
@@AfroChef I agree that would be super cool. But by a 100 level you have to have some age under your belt as well and with age comes wisdom so slap em with Druid or wizard 20 I'd say
At lvl 100, your character sheet is a Hardback Novel.
he just wants to gloop
Juiblex is the patron of weird hentai
The demon lord whose lair is where he says it is. Zuggtomy can try to exterminate him all she tries... but there will always be more slimes.
I'm suffering from an upper respiratory infection and tmg releases a video on the slime lord...juiblex illuminati slimily confirmed.
Get well soon!
Hey! It’s Nurgle’s drinking buddy!!!
Grandaddy of Nurgle
This morning I did something I rarely do and ate breakfast while commuting to work..... thanks 😐
Well... it's Juiblex, were you expecting it to be pretty?
@@AJPickett I'm still kind of new to the lore, so I didn't know what to expect 😂
@@darkhorse13golfgaming Fair enough :)
This was fascinating! I hadn't really thought much of Juiblex prior to this video, but boy is it horrifying.
@@thedarkmaster4747 exactly! Mindflayers would make for great villians spaning all the realms and seasons!
i hope to one day hear tale of all the devils and demons to ever exist in all sources. the forgotten the defeated and the yet unknown this video just proves i'll just have to be patients.
juiblex and dagon are my favorite demon lords! also 4:48 that's a kickass image!
So he's essentially the closest thing to Nurgle(WH40k's chaos god of stagnation and entropy) in DnD's verse/multiverse.
Pretty much
I have a theory
That when the queen of chaos attacked the first ruler of the abyss
She did it on a conceptual level right?
What is what she did was split him in to many pieces and this is one of them
It would explain a lot
Following from that I think what she actually did was to break up the different domains of evil into their own grouping
So originally the first ruler of the abyss was and almost all-powerful singular who held the domain of evil but when she did whatever it was it created a paradox which split him into many forms
Wonder how Jubilex will react to a pepper spray on him
Once again I wish I had listened to this before running the Pudding King - great background.
I like to think of him like a slimy version of the grave mind from the halo franchise
AJ Pickett the only way we can improve is to know how terrible we are, so this guy has had a leg up on self improvement from the get go.
- sees thumbnail and braces for "nope" -
so Juiblex's Domain is Portland OR
Ha!😂
cool definitely will include some of this in a game one day
AJ: You, Sir, do your homework! I love the many details you provide that most of us would never know about. It makes me wonder how you manage to squeeze into all the inaccessible corners of the world in order to find this knowledge. Hmmm... 🤨
Hmmmm. 😅
Me: watching and learning about Juiblex, thinking he’d be a cool antagonist... then the image at 19:56 happens and OH GOD NO
I liked Jubilex but this is like favored frosting on pudding cake.
Lord wise Juiblex may be my favorite demon lord but I’m torn because mechanically in game I hate running oozes 😂
Oooooh boy. This guy here. My brother loved him, and seemed to find savage deligh in throwing his.... children at us in large numbers. Because..... I guess he hates armor, and slashing weapons.
He's literally me
You are so cool 👍🏼
Slime Princess's domain of the slime element in Adventure Time
Rootsnoot Thnute oh my blob.
Great video AJ. And to think, this AD&D demon lord is the great-great-great-grandson of The Blob. Who knew a mass of jelly animated amoeba-like to eat all organic life some science fiction horror movie people made would inspire such diverse monsters then their Abyssal lord?
😂😂😂😂 i was just looking for this video from you yesterday. TADA, THERE IT IS. 🤣🤣
Man, after watching all of these videos I'd LOVE to play in a campaign of yours!
I’m going to have a continent in my Homebrew that was destroyed by Juiblex’s avatar.
"... a shapeless and utterly evil mass spawned from the very birth of the Abyss itself ..."
so, are you saying that Jubilex is essentially the intelligent afterbirth left over from the birth of the Abyss?
if so, perhaps the Abyss intends to eat Jubilex, or is even actively and constantly trying to eat Jubilex, in the way that mothers of some human cultures eat the placenta after childbirth. and the only thing that keeps Jubilex going is its own voracious and single-minded quest to consume everything else first. no wonder it doesn't have time to get involved in the schemes of other demons!
Demon Lord Juiblex, AKA Ivan Ooze.
Theme Song: Green Slime ua-cam.com/video/Izr3Cidaz1M/v-deo.html
I love Juiblex when he is sentient as he's much more interesting than a Demonic slime mold. there just something so intriguing about this cunning, Lovecraftian, all loathing horror who prefers mindless oozes that he can use as both slaves and avatars although I personally believe that he uses his Oozes because he finds the independent minds of mortals are too much of a variable to be relied upon in his multiverse wide schemes.
Just use Fireball
Just Fireball
Just Fireball
100th level fighter- BILLY!
I’ve waited and was not let down. Thank you AJ
Grab your +1 mop of cleaning.
I find it funny that Juiblex's avatar doesn't have Acid immunity or Resistance despite how much acid damage it causes.
There's nothing stopping you from saying "Yeah he's immune to acid sorry".
Could also hand-wave it as different slime biology requiring diferent specific pH levels of acid to maintain their body structure, and acids of differing pH levels can massive tissue trauma if you want to keep the lack of immunity for balance reasons.
