Apparently you can also just toggle your faction status to private at any point and this will detach a docked vessel. This would in effect "drop" the shed off very quickly. But I haven't tried something like that in-game yet.
Just getting back into Empyrion with Alpha 12, so I'm a little late to the party, but thanks for this video! Just opened up a whole new world of build concepts for me to chew on which is good because most of my old blueprints are basically non-valid now.
I can't blame you for feeling that way; it drives me a little nuts too. But as I said in the video, this was just a "proof of concept" build to see if the idea had any merit at all. If you think the idea has some legs and want to do it better, hey great! That's exactly what I was hoping this video would do. Get some people with better building skills than me (not difficult!) to consider the idea. And maybe make better blueprints than my junky little hackjob here.
Hope the concept is still useful, two years later. JRandall and a bunch of other people have been doing some neat stuff with dockable module carrier ships in the last year. So the idea seems to have some kind of merit...
A door on the roof of the HoverShed would be nice, because it would work as a drone hatch when the HoverShed is not docked. Right now you have open the door and then turn your back to it, before you can pop your drone.
make the top of the HV as flat as possible, same with the SV bottom. Then move your landing gear as far left and right as you can and you are golden. Even if the landing gear try to deploy, they won't touch the box top.
The HoverShed is. URL is in the video description. I was also able to find it by starting Steam, Library, Empyrion: Galactic Survival, Workshop and searching for "HoverShed". (Of course, that only works because I bought Empyrion in Steam. I have no idea how to get to the Steam workshop page for Empyrion if you didn't buy Empyrion on Steam.)
Nope, it's legit. "Any-to-any docking" was recently added to the game, on purpose, by the game's creators. Perhaps they didn't expect people to use it in this exact way I'm using it here. But the idea of docking an HV to an SV is something that Eleon Studios definitely wants to be in the game.

Cool! The official forum´s explanation and picture help a lot. But after watching your video, things got WAY easier! Thank you!

I like the idea behind this as a mobile base. To be honest, that sideways cockpit was driving me nuts.

Nice job.

maybe you could build a door at the bottom of the SV. Also on the roof from the CV so you can enter the HV from inside the SV.

are those designs in workshop by chance?

@@SaltyPuglord Thanks😁
the game doesn't want us to do this right? This is a exploit/bug?
