I didn't understand the difference between 2D Art and Drawing until my art teacher explained it to me either. But they're not testing the same skills. Drawing is what it's called, drawing. They're looking for sophisticated mark making, and realistic artwork would fit a Drawing portfolio more than a 2D one. For 2D, they're looking for more graphical things, and you can even do photography for a 2D Art portfolio. If you prefer stuff like graphic design over realistic portraits, then you would pick 2D Art over Drawing. So I feel getting rid of Drawing would put students who prefer the kind of portfolio it asks for at a disadvantage having to pick 2D Art or no AP Art course at all. Other than that, you made great points. Good video!
@@Shaia_TeamLCE Thanks for informing us! Yeah, I do not know too much about the AP Art classes, but from first impression, they looked pretty similar. @@Mr.AP5 Of course! Yes, I do think that it's better that they stay as separate classes. AP Latin mirrors real college courses which all AP classes should do. A real college Latin class is heavily based in translation and that is what AP Latin studies. The Aeneid and Caesar's Gallic Wars both are interesting parts of Roman history and culture. I believe the main purpose of becoming proficient at translation is to be able to decide for yourself what ancient texts may have been truly saying. Texts can have meaning lost in translation but being able to have a good understanding of Latin allows for a more meaningful interpretation of ancient texts. This may not be a practical use but being a proficient student in AP Latin prepares you for the practical uses as well. To succeed in AP Latin you need a very good understanding of vocabulary and seeing that a lot of words in many languages come from Latin you would understand them.
As someone who takes Ap African American History, i think it was made specifically because the APUSH curriculum didnt involve a large amount of black historians or black accomplishments. most classes narrow studies of black people down to slavery rather than mentioning african kingdoms and all that 😭 for example, the jim crow era could be 3 class periods long with the amount of events that happened within that timeframe, however most history classes just mention it briefly move on
that course is 50% slavery and the other 50% is within the last half of the century but I don't even understand what is the point of the course since that cannot cover a whole year worth of material
AP Physics 1 not mentioned is a surprise. Of course physics APs are important but there are already 2 other AP Physics courses, and ALL colleges won’t even accept the course.
people take AP physics 1 because it's physics despite not only its known low passing rate but also that it's an inferior version of Physics C like what even is the point of algebra based physics, you can't do anything with it
I love my AP Spanish lit class, it gives me a chance to further challenge my understanding of my language and learn about Spanish literary history. Yeah it may not be that useful career wise, but it definitely aids in language understanding and writing.
Latin is still incredibly useful! Many legal and medical terms are derived from Latin and an entire branch of languages - the Romance languages - are derived from it too! AP Spanish literature is similar to AP literature, so it shouldn’t be banned as the two clases complement each other rather well as a teacher commented to us last year.
AP latin is actually useful for linguistics, anthropology and archaeology majors as well it's also helpful for other general languages + a bridge into egyptology, etc
I took Spanish Literature. It was useless for my degree, but I took it because I am from Spain and moved to the US as a kid and didn't really get a chance to study much literature in Spanish. Since AP is mostly an American thing, it wouldn't make sense to have Chinese Literature but not Spanish because there are so many more Spanish speakers in the US than Chinese. At the school I went it was mainly that if you spoke Spanish already you'd take Literature, but if you didn't you'd take Language. Language would have been too easy for Spanish speakers. Also, I feel like most of the Mexican-Americans in my class needed it because in the US they are given false ideas about what it means to be Hispanic, and arguably I'd say I knew more of actual Mexican culture as a Spaniard than some of the Mexican Americans who would supposedly be more familiar with the culture than me.
Okay for my opinion: 1. AP Pre-Calculus was the first AP class I took and I feel as if they could just make the AP exam harder. And since normally people take Pre-Calculus in their senior year and we would only need 3 years worth of Math in high school (at least for us), high school seniors could have a chance at taking an AP math class since subjects can be bias since Math is kind of the only class where you would have to take different levels of in high school (an a little bit of English) but in science there is Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and you can take each class at any point in high school same thing with history (World, Euro, US) unlike Math where there is Algebra 1, then Geometry, then Algebra II, then Pre-Calc, then Calc+. I guess what I am trying to say is that the order in which you take the classes matter for a math class and not any other class. And for me the class itself wasn’t as easy as the exam was. 2. AP African American History they can change it to AP African History in general(Then again I would be surprised how much the curriculum knows or is willing to teach about African History). I mean they are willing to do AP Euro (I mean the US was created by Europeans). I think it would be really nice for African Americans to learn about themselves and where they came from since America has kept them from this for a while now, the same thing can happen with a class called AP Asian, or something like that. It would be a great way to learn more in-depth material on other ethnic groups (besides AP World) 3. AP Latin was the formal universal language and I think Latin overall is a hard language to learn but it has great potential to show off skills since learning Latin is worth a lot. I am a Latin III student and it’s really hard to actually learn Latin vs getting a good grade in my class since the bar is set very low, it’s kind of like the opposite of AP Pre-Calc, getting a good grade is a lot harder than the exam was in my class. 4. AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language I think should be combined into one class since it’s not quite the universal language, but I feel like Spanish isn’t as hard to learn as some of other languages from native English speakers. 5. AP Drawings. I think they can merge it with a different art class, I don’t see why they would have it into 2 art classes. These are just some of my opinions! :))
Honestly, i think AP Latin is fine, as Latin is still a major world language taken in high schools (more than other languages that have APs such as Japanese or Italian), so I think it makes sense for those who are taking Latin as a world language in HS to have an opportunity to take the AP level.
I don't think AP Calculus AB shouldn't exist for the reason of BC existing, I do think it is due an entire change in curriculum and a slight change in the name, with it lining up with college where APCalc AB is AP Calc 1 with Calc 1 content and AP Calc 2 with Calc 2, that may be a challenge since most students who choose AP Precalculus their Junior Year will either end up with AP Calc AB, BC, or neither, as more probably options.
