      @tuesdayatdobbs Honestly restored my faith. The great thing was seeing 17 year old on their L plate 125's having a cup of coffee with older riders on their bigger bikes chatting. Just riders enjoying their passion, sharing their stories and experiences. I will be going more often for sure.

    I was also struggling to meet other motorcyclists, my local club was unfriendly.. So I started my own group, handed out invites to anyone I met on a bike and now we get 30 of us meeting up for breakfast every week. The only rule is you are not allowed to sit with the same people every week, which encourages mingling.

    The current price of pre-registered bikes in the UK is their true value. The market has decided.

      Bingo! The amount of "l don't need to sell, so if l don't get £x, then l'll keep it" sales pitches right now. 😂 I don't think people realise how little their bikes are worth, we've serious over supply in a dwindling potential market.

    • @Howard1776
      @Howard1776 4 дні тому +2

      It’s similar to the late ‘90s when the market was flooded with grey imports that forced litre sports bikes down from £9k to £7k and 600 super sports from £7 down to around £5.5k.

      Just look at the one year old private sale bikes on auto trader that are the same price as newer (or next model) dealer bikes. Some people get a nosebleed and think pricing high means they have wriggle room. They don’t 😂

      @saltaireorangebicyclechopp8555 4 дні тому +4

      @@MV-XD2 l've been trying to get sense into a Dax owner, why would l pay £3k for his used bike when they are £3k new? What he paid is irrelevant, £2.5k is very fair yet he went meltdown then l offered that. Still be for sale at Xmas. 😂

  • @MV-XD2
    @MV-XD2 4 дні тому +5

    Euro 5+ is not the first time this has happened. Euro 3, 4 and 5 have happened in 2007, 2016 and 2020. The last time this happened (Dec 2019) registrations for the year were 1.4% up on 2018 but December 2019 was actually down 2.9% on December 2018. For reference total bikes registered in 2019 was 107,408 - last year it was 116,399, so even if you discount all 11,206 bikes registered in December 2024 the YTD totals for the last 5 years are roughly the same.
    This means a stable but stagnant industry, but the numbers do not point to a failing industry just yet.

    That Vulcan 800 you found at £4995 only had 6200 miles on it. I still doubt that it will sell anywhere near that price. Vulcans and Intruders from the late 90's and early 00's is usually found well below £2000 for the 800 and just above for the 1500cc models. A lot of the 1500 Vulcans from this era I've seen for sale have upwards of 100.000km on them. And they still ride very well. I've owned two Intruder VL1500, a 98 and a 99. Both I bought for about 2000€ here in Sweden in the last 3-4 years.
    As always, Thanks for your tuesday videos, they are little gems, especially in the Scandinavian winter darkness. When the longing for riding weather grows every day...

    There are local bike meets in every part of UK. That's the best way to meet other bikers. There does tend to be more middle-aged and older folk than young bikers at these meets, but you always get a scattering. I guess youngsters are more likely to be on computers in their bedrooms. Most regions have motorcycle clubs - again with an older age range but good for making contacts and most oldies have kids who may well be following dad into biking. Re. Harley Davidson Nightster: I watched Missenden Flyer's review of it recently. It's like a mild version of the V-Rod from 2002, but what struck me was the incredibly low seat and low weight (for a Harley) of 221kg. This makes it ideal for shorties. I've previously recommended the Kawasaki Vulcan S to smaller people, but now there's an interesting alternative for them to aim at. Good podcast.

      😂 That reminds me of years ago when I was with my wife buying a load of stuff for our new house and as I left the till at a chain DIY store I paused and said to the cashier that I didn’t think that the total could be right and sure enough she hadn’t charged me £175 for a lawn mower. I could have kicked myself but hey I’m honest, my wife pointed out that if I hadn’t paid for it then I wouldn’t have got the years guarantee. 🙄😄

    • @G58
      @G58 3 дні тому +1

      I’m not sure if that’s correct. A warrantee is a legal contract between the manufacturer of the vehicle and the first purchaser.
      Registration of the vehicle (by the dealer) with the DVLA has nothing whatsoever with the purchase of the bike. The dealer is only the first registered keeper, NOT the first owner.
      These are two distinct contacts.
      Therefore, in my opinion, the warrantee can surely ONLY start when the dealer sells the bike to its first owner.

    In the Netherlands it's the same as in the US, a bike is what it is when it's made, with the then counting regulations, nothing changes that, and in fact if you own an oldtimer bike, past 25 years, you don't pay road taxes and get a cheaper insurance. (we have road taxes on all vehicles here, no tol roads and such.) So getting a second bike for the better weather and summer trips is pretty normal here. Also it keeps the value of oldtimers up and keeps them valuable and worth while taking care of.

    There is a group called The Moto Social that I believe originated in Canada that host monthly events during the riding season and meets are held at different spots for each monthly meet. They have chapters in several countries but I noticed there aren't any in the UK currently. Every event I've been to has been very laid back and welcoming and are very well attended. They have a fairly in depth website of where the events are, what they're about and even how to get involved. If there's a need perhaps Anya, or anyone else for that matter can start a Moto Social event near them and see what happens.

We used to have many multi brand dealers in the UK, then the manufacturers didn’t like the competition so they insisted on one brand dealers or separate buildings for their bikes. All these pre reg prices are going to hammer used prices as well so guess bargains there too but if you have a bike to sell you might have to take a big hit if it is fairly new.

    Freddie, there is a flip side to your bargain bike of the week, the Harley Nightster. That would be the first owner. If a Harley dealership can sell that 2 year old bike at almost half price, just think what the poor sod who first owned it was given as trade in value for it… they must be crying at the pittance Harley allowed them for it.
    I’ve owned a few Harley’s in my time and traditionally they always used to hold their value really well.. but it seems that time is over. Buyer beware!

    harley davidson edinburgh is closing and now hd oxford is going as well. this after the lind group shut watford and reading. harleys are just to expensive for what you get. a dealer gave me a very good price for my sportster and i got a suzuki gsx8r which for everyday and reliablity is going to be better. hd servicing is also very expensive and the suzuki service is about £200. even with the price drop on the 2025 street bob and added tech it now comes with its still a luxury purchase and these days people havnt got the money.

    Ok Freddie, here’s my 2 cents on the bike of the week. 8k for a 3 year old Sportster is a good deal. But, why is that? Because nobody wants one. Why aren’t other Harley models that cheap? Because people want them. Just because a bike is a good deal doesn’t make it popular. Young guys love old style Sportsters. There easy to chop and parts in the aftermarket are everywhere. Those new Sportsters not so much. Some bikes from Harley were really good, but just didn’t have a big following. The V Rod was one. Others not so much like the street 750. In time the newer Sportsters will come around. Always remember. A Harley in parts in a bushel basket, is gonna be worth more than any other bike in parts in a bushel basket.

    .. This is what the Eurocrats want but why is the U.K. still following Euro emissions ? 🤷‍♂️ We lost so many bikes at the end of 2020, we could get them back. 💡

    I’ll tell you at least in Canada good luck getting insurance if it’s an older bike. I almost didn’t get insurance on my old 74 Ironhead. Had to search and search. Never buy an underpowered bike. You’ll always upgrade. Just learn how to ride the bigger bike. You’ll get used to it quickly. It’s almost like motorcycling is dying off. Younger riders? They’re in their basements playing video games about motorcycling 😂

    Are you only doing price comparisons now? Once bought, you should stop looking. You will either be sick that you paid too much or possibly drawn into buying something you don't want or need just because of the low price.
    I was employed in the service dept of motorcycle dealership for 25 years and saw what appeared to be five year cycles of sales of new bikes. A boom year would be followed by a crash year followed by three or four years of gradual build up to another boom year. I used to wonder where the customers came from but they kept coming. This year is a particularly bad year for dealers but with fewer dealers the survivors will probably have a good year next year.
    Don't forget that in 1970 a new Norton Commando was the same price as a new 850cc Mini car. I was constantly being told that I should buy a car but I just. had to have a bike. Compare car to bike prices to see if that has changed over 55 years.......

      Plenty of people. Despite all the moaning and groaning there’s still a lot of money sloshing around. The ageing demographic includes plenty of retirees on a tidy pension. Not that buying a new bike for cash is a good idea nowadays as it’s very expensive and a heavily depreciating asset.
