By saving John, MaKee saved all of the Spartans, so John's decision to connect with her ultimately led to getting the info to find the Covenant and successfully pull off the mission that saved humanity...for now. Just a note to all the people who freaked out over John smashing Makee's like button. In the end, it saved all of their lives.
Fall of Reach is too big of an event to be contained in 1 episode. They will dedicate at least a few episodes in the beginning of season 2 to flesh out the whole event. I think if they really want to do it well, they should introduce noble team at the minimum and show casual audience that there are other spartans around even if they are just spartan III. The covenant just lost their human tool makee and lost the artifact that can point them to location of Halo array so they are definitely coming to reach. Makee piloted a covenant phantom when she was making her getaway and I am sure the flight path data was still in the phantom so the covenant will definitely use it to trace the planet Reach location. Master Chief is in stasis mode and I am sure Cortana will wake him like she always does in the game. As for why chief needed to surrender his body to Cortana is clear, he cannot touch the artifact without getting affected and that will hinder him from saving his teammate brother and sisters. So Cortana was the only option since she as chief can take out the enemies AND carry the artifact without being affected.

Thanks for calling out these hatetubers who spew nothing but hate for petty things and who never bothered making a a list of convincing arguments as to why the show is bad. I'll say the show is not perfect but if you think about all the horrendous video game to tv/movie adaptations that we have had in the past (Doom 2005 anyone? Resident Evil movie series? Max Payne?) then Halo TV is actually pretty accurate to the source material in terms of sets/general plot point/action and background.
I'm a life long Star Trek fan and Discovery and Picard are some of the most terrible Star Trek material around but Paramount+ is still pumping them full of money. Discovery costs way more than Halo by the way. Paramount+ said Halo is their HIGHEST viewed series so I am confident they will keep going after season 2.
I was gutted when John ended his own life to make way for Cortana. So the whole season is all about MC's origin story and there’s no more John for some time moving forward. Mebbe he’s coming back as the new Cortana next season! LOL.
Brilliant series IMO, your review is the most unbiased I’ve seen as most Halo heads can’t come to terms that it’s a silver timeline. Lots of loonies out there I can’t imagine the world is so screwed up nowadays.
My guess is that he's just on the back burner and not dead. He probably won't be gone for long
