This song reminds me so much of when I met my hubby. The song "We've Only Just Begun" reminds me of our wedding a year after we met. Those were the good days and I'm glad I have happy memories of them.
I grew up listening to Richard and Karen Carpenter. Listening to real quality music made me appreciate the time and effort it takes to create it. I was one of the only teenagers who would rather have listened to The Carpenters, rather than any of the artists the rest of my friends listened to. 28 now, and I love these songs even more.
So TRUE, my sons grew up listening to all my Carpenters vinyl, and are now playing it to my grandchildren who range from 3 years to 17 years, on CD, and Ipod. Incomparable music!
whenever I hear this song I am overwhelmed his deep sensitivity and her ethereal voice ... not if there will be other versions of this song, but only to hear it know that there is a better version than the original in the voice of Karen ... most sweet voice, a sublime sensibility, his lyrics seem pure poetry ... and melody ... contains all the tenderness that only Karen Carpenter can transmit ..... sweetness personified ... God knows I never will be someone like her ... her voice is like the song of the angels ... because before starting sHE wAS ALREADY ...
So many wonderful female vocalists over the years, each with their own gifts - but if I had to pick one voice...just one.....Karen. So exquisitely beautiful....
When I was in high school it was just not cool to profess love for The Carpenters. But I loved them secretly, on my own, in my room. Listening to Karen's voice always makes me happy. I'm sorry she was so hurt inside.
The day I heard this song, I knew my right one would have blue eyes. He did, 23+ years later and this song is still for my forever more. Beautiful recording. Thank you.
I agree ... very relaxing and soo beautiful. What a voice she had. Love this song. Thank you for sharing. Great Video too. Enjoyed it very much !!! Big Thumbs Up !!!
You're very welcome my friend. i always add the HQ to my videos title for the good audio quality, as i only like to upload videos that have one, because there are many around YT with very poor quality audio which spoils the song in my opinion. Thanks very much for taking the time to comment...
On the day that Karen Carpenter was born the angels got together & decided to create a dream come true! Just imagining her in heaven singing with those angels & sharing her awesome gift up there today is reason enough to make me want to live a righteous life... I long to be close to you baby girl:-)
Have the same feeling of loss like John Lennon and few others because they could of carried on with more phenomenal songs that could have even changed things
This was the first song I heard in town in Oxford my first year at college (the place up the hill, not the University). The Eagle and Child and every other pub in the centre was playing this. Such an anthem for my youth and I cannot fault Karen's voice.
I listened to this song on the family car radio in 1970. But by 1983, everything changed. 35 years have passed and I continue to listen to this song with the same admiration. I believe that Karen is a talented woman with an unfortunate destiny. "Achieving perfection is the most important thing". Karen Carpenter.
I remember thinking this song about the first girl I ever had a crush on... I was around 11. At that time, I thought that Karens voice was the richest and most musical I had ever heard. She was gifted in such a rare way, to rise above her peers as she did. She was taken too young, but her voice will never leave my heart. I had to come here today and find this song and that voice that was nearly the background for my later childhood days. Really glad I found it. My heart soared. Thanks Carpenters. M
Here's the equation: Burt Bacharach (songwriter) + Richard Carpenter (arranger) + Karen Carpenter (most beautiful voice ever) = Most beautiful song ever = Super Hit.
Thank you for uploading this for everyone. What a fabulous voice! It is a joy to be able to sing along with Karen Carpenter in a music range that I can reach. (Even if the quality of her voice is so much better than mine!) There is so much human warmth in the songs that she sang.
Why do birds suddenly appear Every time you are near Just like me, they long to be close to you Why do stars fall down from the sky Every time you walk by Just like me, they long to be close to you On the day that you were born the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold And starlight in your eyes of blue. That is why all the girls in town Follow you all around Just like me, they long to be close to you. On the day that you were born the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold And starlight in your eyes of blue. That is why all the girls in town Follow you all around. Just like me, they long to be close to you. Just like me (Just like me) They long to be close to you. Wahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you. Wahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you. Hahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you. Lahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you.
The Lord God does NOT give people diseases! If you knew anything about man's condition in the eyes of God, you'd know that man disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. It was that disobedience that brought sin into the world. Therefore, the curse of sin came as a consequence. Our spirits are dead to Him, which is why Jesus was born, that He might be the One who would restore the relationship between God and mankind. Diseases, both mental and physical, are the product of the curse of sin. Karen's mental image of herself was a distorted one. She saw herself as fat while the public saw a beautiful, slender young woman. The pressures of the fast life in the recording industry didn't help, either.
I bought this 45 without my friends knowing I was a Carpenter fan at the time . This song blew me away when it came out , her voice was captivating . Also that first picture of her without a bra was out of Carpenter fashion of those ugly dresses she wore . Their image was mostly Christen looking / clean and wholesome .
Man, do I know what you're talking about. I was eleven when this came out in 1970. I immediately fell in love with this song. There had never been a sound like this before, and it was absolutely amazing!!! I remember buying this record as a 45 rpm (that means revolutions per minute on a turntable for you digital folks). It may or may not have been my first record purchase of my own. Those were happy days! :D
Mark A I was the same age and yeah I bought the 45 too . My older siblings would rib me if the found out , so I had to play it when they weren't around since I was also just getting into heavy rock . I was getting hand me down scratched albums . I still buy CDs and vinyl in a age of digital downloads .
She seemed to love wearing those high-neck granny gowns that were so popular in the early 70s. Olivia Newton John, Jonie Mitchell among others wore them too. I always thought they looks more like fancy pajamas!
This song reminds me so much of when I met my hubby. The song "We've Only Just Begun" reminds me of our wedding a year after we met. Those were the good days and I'm glad I have happy memories of them.
She didn't leave this world, she lives on forever in our hearts.

Never get tired of hearing this song.
2013 and she's still my favourite singer ever. I wish I'd been born when she was still alive instead of it '92...
So TRUE, my sons grew up listening to all my Carpenters vinyl, and are now playing it to my grandchildren who range from 3 years to 17 years, on CD, and Ipod. Incomparable music!
Nothing gets better in Music than a Burt Bacharach composition in the voice of Karen Carpenter. PERFECTION
whenever I hear this song I am overwhelmed his deep sensitivity and her ethereal voice ... not if there will be other versions of this song, but only to hear it know that there is a better version than the original in the voice of Karen ... most sweet voice, a sublime sensibility, his lyrics seem pure poetry ... and melody ... contains all the tenderness that only Karen Carpenter can transmit ..... sweetness personified ... frère et soeur magnifiques tous les deux...on n'a pas oublier leurs voix et leurs chansons....tous le chalalas.....merci....
The most hauntingly beautiful voice ever.
glorious..who could ever comepareor come close .....no one....legends.....
So many wonderful female vocalists over the years, each with their own gifts - but if I had to pick one voice...just one.....Karen. So exquisitely beautiful....
It’s sad to know we lost this wonderful voice and human so early.
My dog died a few days a go and since then I can't stop listening to this song in my head and I can't stop crying
When I was in high school it was just not cool to profess love for The Carpenters. But I loved them secretly, on my own, in my room. Listening to Karen's voice always makes me happy. I'm sorry she was so hurt inside.
Never let the "cool kids" dictate to you. They were wrong then, and they are still wrong every time you tune into the MSM.
Nobody could make a hit of this Bacharach and David song until Karen and Richard got a hold of it.
Melhor dupla que já vi, que talento, fez muito sucesso no Brasil 🇧🇷, maravilhosos, saudades ❤
The day I heard this song, I knew my right one would have blue eyes. He did, 23+ years later and this song is still for my forever more. Beautiful recording. Thank you.
Her voice is unique and lovely, and still appreciated by any one who loves melody.
I agree ... very relaxing and soo beautiful. What a voice she had. Love this song.
Thank you for sharing. Great Video too. Enjoyed it very much !!! Big Thumbs Up !!!
Absolutely an angel! RIP sweet lady.
This was their first song. I remember it well in the summer of 1970 when good music was on AM radio.
and FM radio barely even existed
MrJohnisthename The early days of FM was pretty much talk radio. Today I think it's just about the opposite.
Second album actually but this was there first hit record
This is the first song I heard sung by her and it seemed to me a great song and still does 47 years later.
Notably HQ in quality. Very much appreciated.
You're very welcome my friend. i always add the HQ to my videos title for the good audio quality, as i only like to upload videos that have one, because there are many around YT with very poor quality audio which spoils the song in my opinion. Thanks very much for taking the time to comment...
Beautiful Carl, you just cannot beat The Carpenters to soothe the soul. Thanks.
great voice...great song...
I love the Carpenters and song. Thanks for posting in HQ. 🆒👍🎼🎶🎵😊
Classics all the way around. I was in 5th grade when this was released, guess I am one of the old farts that likes oldie music, now.

still think she is one of the best female singers .
You are correct.
I still miss her. She is a great gal who many would have heard sing now if she didn't' move on. God be with her. .
Have the same feeling of loss like John Lennon and few others because they could of carried on with more phenomenal songs that could have even changed things
God's choir must have needed Karen Carpenter more. RIP, Karen.😔💒

this was my first year of high school when thiis came out miss the old days
She would have been tailor made for 80s music. Dozens of hits and amazing songs left in them.
Me gusta mucho, nunca se olvidarán.
Já ouvi várias gravações dessa música. Mas essa com os Carpenters é definitiva. ❤
Essa voz e inesquecivel
I loved her sooo much
Joe Osborn's bass run at 1:22 is one of the tastiest tidbits in bass history.
wow what a voice gotta love her died to young

I always liked the great harmony sung in the closing bars of this song. Karen's rich voice made it such perfection.
***** ! Beautiful song Thanks!
KAREN HAD THE BEST FEMALE VOICE HANDS DOWN :):) ''THERE WILL NEVER EVER BE ANOTHER KAREN CARPENTER IN MY LIFETIME!! AND FUTURE LIFETIME'S.
TheMUSICFANATIC67 I absolutely agree! I say the same about Karen to everyone I know.
thanks eric
a voice like hers cannot be recreated through some voice synthesizer on a computer either. She was naturally born with this great gift,
She had a great voice, very sad on what happened to her.
Classic!
lovely song forever
Here's the equation:

She Had the God Given voice of an Angel!
Timeless!
My father introduced me to this last weekend.

Karen Carpenter was quite the homely young girl, but MAN she turned into such a beauty! Such a shame she died the way she did.

💖💖💖💐Un classico intramontabile.😁
Karen Carpenter had some of the best control ever. I just wish she never felt the need to be dangerously thin.
Summer '70 goodness!
What talent ....she was so sick physically .... I wish her marriage had been filled with joy.😔

Haunting. . .
She is now singing for the Lord, he and only He could give her the Beautiful voice she had!
I'm wondering why he gave her anorexia.
