The actor playing Merle Jones deserved a prize for her performance in this episode. Just brilliant! The actress of Kath Maxwell is also great, with subtile face expressions that make one see that she's in doubt and denial about what she's doing.
I’m glad you posted this I do know she is a music teacher very well read intelligent witty and multitalented what an actress to go from being herself and to turn into a child in an adults body’s is unbelievably real she should have done more
A lot of people here feel the same- I personally, won't watch it again. I've got loads of other stuff in a queue that desparately needs watching, including my Wonder Woman boxset, and Land Of The Giants to name but a few XD
What i end up doing is... Oh i remember when Lizzy wrote to the un-budz-man about mr. Gillespie security changes to the prison and re-watching cell block from that episode until i remember another good episode and go back.
No matter what-I have to tell you that Roseanne Hull-Brown was one of the best actresses-hitting the notes in perfect pitch for her Character! Two of my Favorites from all of the shows are Lizzy, and Meryl!
I couldn't stand Merle. Too often the writers it seemed as though the writers always wanted to have certain character types in prison. They had country bumpkin Cass Parker then that horrible Rabbit then plant talker Daphne and now Merle. I think I wanted to slap Merle in every episode. The show would have been a lot better without her and Daphne and Rabbit just to name a few.
OMG Rodney Romancing ... LOLOL!!! Of Merle fell & was injured - and now she'll hopefully get it that Kath was just using her - poor thing. And a reminder that Merle is Severely Learning Disabled, not Mentally Ill. She deserved support & understanding and sadly didn't get it. The actress playing Merle did an amazing job as did the writers in their depiction. Very well done indeed.
+NativeMoon -- Rosanne Hull-Brown the actress that played Merle gave up acting and is now a teacher and she teaches music. Believe she's a very clever lady in real life.
I really can't choose between Rita, Bea and Myra. Those three were quite different, but still very belivable as top dogs. Sweet dear Minnie Donovan was quite charming but a very unbelivable top dog 😊
Broken promises. I understand that, when my niece was little my late father kept telling her we would all go to Florida to Walt Disney World when she was seven so she could remember the fun but she's 35 and has never set foot anywhere like Walt Disney World. I haven't either. Back.in 2010, Our American Broadcast Company or ABC, was bought by the Disney company and a television cast went to Walt Disney World. Ever since then I have wanted to visit either Disneyland on California or Walt Disney World in Florida with my nephews, but our family simply can't afford to spend all that money.
This is my first time around doing from eps 1. It's all heating up now. w0w, just 8 eps left. This show has been a rock (a very poorly man) to me since I started watching it on the 5th of November 2022. Watching much longer than most here I think, but still. 8th January 2024.
Poor merle. She was sexually assaulted. I thought I heard right at the end of last episode. She said something about her step brother doing things to her. Bless her
when merle said " ive been thinking" after she saw how angry rita was,she didnt defend maxwell for once because she knew something was wrong.excellent acting. she should have carried on acting . she was fasntastic to watch.
It still blows my mind how prisoners have always had free access to the staff room! WT(actual)F?! Give me a break... prisoners shouldn't be able to get within a mile of the staff room!
At least Brumby doesn't shout every single word she speaks.Neither is she a huge psychic vampire, like Bobbie was especially, and Lexie also.Bobbie was the worst character ever, then Lexie,a very, very close second. For some reason I think Rabbit was more awful than Brumby, both had terrible hair-dos.🤭But,yeah, Bobbie was the most horrendous character in the whole of PCBH,to me,at least.🤬🤬🤬🤭🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️🐊🐊🐊
the Rosanne Hull-Brown the actress that played Merle gave up acting and is now a teacher and she teaches music. Believe she's a very clever lady in real life.
Ꭿmanda Jonεs Agreed! Rosanne was simply brilliant with her portrayal of Merle. Any actor will tell you that playing a role such as Merle, is one of the most difficult roles to do. And to be able to pull it off convincingly takes a true master of the performing arts. Several years ago, I had the privilege of playing Lenny in Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". In my 40+ years in the theater, that was the most grueling part I ever played.
I told myself that for the last 50 episodes, I'd ration them. Well that's not happening, this era was too bloody compelling and entertaining! Sick of people whining endlessly that they're not as good as the 'golden era.' Bea & Lizzie etc were great but so are these later characters.
If Marty loses his job a new line of employment for him could be being the mascot for space invader crisps and the game with that weirdly shaped head of his.
I’ll never understand the no lagging rule, it’s stupid, I wouldn’t cop solitary for something I didn’t do and if I got bashed to death least I’d die innocent. You look out for yourself in prison, not your mates. Marty and Spike were set up and I hope the truth comes out. Kath just escaping and leaving Merle like that but she won’t get far.
Get rid of those Blackmoor men. They are bad news! Rodney looked like a real nerd with that striped jacket and hat in the play. Fergos always playing dangerous games. No Disneyland for Merle. Another escape from Wentworth. That place has lousy security.
Poor Merle. She shouldn’t be in any kind of prison. Especially since they know medication controls her violent outbursts. If she can’t live alone, she should at least be in a home with other adults with intellectual disabilities
Bloody hell, Lisa's going nuts with that camera. What was the point of all those shots of him walking to the theater? One would have done - this was the days before digital photography and camera film wasn't cheap!
The guy whos driving the laundry van to break Kath Maxwell out looks like the same guy who impersonated a cop as part of Frank Burkes escape plan in episode 518, when they say theyre transferring the 3 men who were in Woodridge Prison to a new Wing in Woodridge.
I think he also played one of the cops in episode 622 when they were after Rita Connors brother for trying to assist Rita Connors to escape. He was sitting in the passenger seat of the cop car where Bongo Connors and Ida Brown were in. Many of the actors in Prisoner have had multiple roles. Even Ian Smith had more than 1 role - played Ted Douglas until he got arrested for corruption working for Lionel Fellowes, and then he reappeared as Pixies Dad in an episode. The guy who played the Blackmoor officer Walters was also in a few episodes of the husband of Maxines sister when Maxine was on parole, but the husband of Maxines sister defrauded one of his clients account, then undertook a robbery to pay back the account when the client deceased and Maxine took the blame for it.
lol @ the 'Roddy' love talk. And her saying how Roddy was going to be deputy Governor one day. I've got more chance of being deputy Governor of Wentworth than Roddy has. Which seems unlikely considering 1) Wentworth is a fictitious place. and 2) I retired from work 20 years ago. And my last job was as a supermarket shelf stacker. lol
I had the same thoughts. Wasn’t she a stay at home wife that took care of her sick daughter? Like an innocent house wife. She’s got herself into a lot of trouble with the women
It seems they would realize by now that all dirt roads lead to Maxwell one way or another. She's a prime example of "the love of money is the root of evil".
Joyce Barry/Pringle had to be the most incompetent of all the officers in the series; say what you'd like about Joan Fergusson (she was extremely sadistic and evil) but she at least was competent, efficient and commanded authority. However, in my opinion the best officers were Vera Bennet and Colleen Powell.
Being strict isn't everything. When I was at school, we were far more co-operative with teachers who treated us well and who you could actually have a laugh with. We were not fond of the would be Hitlers. They got nowhere.

Kath Maxwell is rubbish
Merle Jones was played by a school music teacher. The only acting role she ever did but a brilliant performance.
had she ever done any interviews
Good actor!
A professor of music not just ur average school music teacher
that's really surprising she played the role so well

That last scene with Merle crying out for Kath was actually heartbreaking
Merle is one of the best characters in the shows history. Wish she had met Bea, Myra or Judy.
@Kayson Gregory every episode you say the same thing
I love how the actor playing Rodney is actually TRYING to act badly when he IS a bad actor anyway! Hahaha

@ Amanda Jones: And she is Professor Hull-Browne no less!
@Heather Elliott Yes she did. I love her performances.
She was a wonderful character. I felt such empathy for her at times. So many people tried to use her.
I always thought maybe she had a child like that in real life she's so good
Bea and Rita were the best top dogs
Die-Hard Bea fan here but I think Myra was good as well.
Rita really grew on me.
I really can't choose between Rita, Bea and Myra. Those three were quite different, but still very belivable as top dogs. Sweet dear Minnie Donovan was quite charming but a very unbelivable top dog 😊
Bea, Sandy Edwards and Rita are my favourite top dogs!
I liked Sandy Edwards also, but I hated Myra Desmond and fat Bryant (she was temp top dog I think)
Yep!, that's so true, when you're in trouble, you find-out who your real friends are. 'very true'.
Poor old Merle really thought she was going to disneyland :(

I like how Maxwell looked at Merle @18:29 like why aren't you helping me? Merle know's why
lol i spotted that little look. and merle does not even give kath eye contact.
Love how Ferguson, when on the phone to the Minister puts on her 'posh' voice
when merle said " ive been thinking" after she saw how angry rita was,she didnt defend maxwell for once because she knew something was wrong.excellent acting. she should have carried on acting . she was fasntastic to watch.
Rodney Adams is such a massive tool! LMAO
Poor Merle... AGAIN!
'Brumby couldn't find a fist in a fight'.......lmfao😂😂😂
Agree.
6:20 typical Rodney blowing his own trumpet as usual. He sounds like he's reading straight out of a textbook.
Such a slime
OMG I love how the beige stripes on Joan's fetching navy blue ensemble are the exact same shade of beige as her apartment.
Joan is so rude on the phone. She couldn’t even utter a “thank you”.
Merle is too much of a liability to escape with!
Bringing Merle along is the worst idea
It still blows my mind how prisoners have always had free access to the staff room! WT(actual)F?! Give me a break... prisoners shouldn't be able to get within a mile of the staff room!
And some staff don't lock their lockers, especially in the earlier episodes.
Can't stand Rodney
Same here, he's a wank.
Who in their right mind could?
Was I the only one laughing at Rodney's rehearsals lol
NO.
I was trying not to puke.
love the shots of merle crawling
Give me Bobbie Mitchell or Lexie Patterson any day over Brumby. My god that mullet is a crime in itself.
Or even that fool, Marlene!
Cant stand Brumbie

Me too, however, we're all in lockdown because of Covid and Prisoner is my all time favourite show. Been doing exactly the same thing.
This era of the show is bloody great, isn’t it?
Hahaha!!! Loving Alison's apartment with all the cuddly toys!!
Oh my god, Rodney’s girlfriend is bonkers. That horrible pink apartment!
Don't forget all the stuffed animals.
Karen Nicholls that turned Roddy on 🤮

Totally agree, I've worked in group homes that had FAR worse than Merle - Merle would have been a delight compared to some I've work with.
Bet Kath is goona lose the only friend she has ever had now.
Rodney looks like Michael Palin in the stage makeup ;-).
Rodney and Gail Robinson... Just... No... NO.... WRONGWRONGWRONG.
@34:55 Ferguson sweat pants outfit looks awesome. Only because my mom has one
Not often you see Roddy in his civvies, is it ? His g/f was played by Fiona Corke, later Paul Robinson's business partner in "NEIGHBOURS".
