    OMG if u are not ready for the commitment of owning a pet then don't get one!! You can always find someone else to take care of them if it is too late. There is most likely someone with a koi pond that would be happy to take your goldfish. Now the environment is ruined and all these fish have to die because some idiot wasn't mature enough to take care of a couple damn goldfish.

      Lillian Coticchia you're right, I mean it's a Fucking goldfish you're looking after not a child, it's not a significant amount of effort so why feel the need to dump it in the local lake? Some people need to cop on

    Overpopulation can destroy an ecosystem not just for the overpopulated organism but for everything around them as well. Doing this sucks but its necessary to maintain some sort of equilibrium.

      If you could kill every single fish it might help... Theyre just making life easier for the fish they dont remove.

    • @remy1452
      @remy1452 7 років тому +3

      I agree, so leave them and let the overpopulation aide their deaths. Every time they pull more fish out, its temporarily making conditions better, making more fish babies.

    • @peoplez129

      Exactly. Nature self corrects. Mans ignorance and cruelty at work here. Same thing with global warming; we can't even say if it's entirely man made or not, nor if thwarting it is a good thing. We're due for an ice age, global warming just might thwart that ice age. if we stop global warming, we might invite the doom of an ice age. Once again, mans ignorance causing problems.
      This fact above all is true: Good intentions, philanthropists, etc.....have caused more death and suffering than all of the evil kings and dictators in history combined.
      The third world grows at a rate of 20,000%. No, that's not a made up figure. When they have 7 kids, and those kids have 7 kids, and so on and so forth, after just a few generations, you end up with explosive population growth. We give them clean water and food and mosquito nets, allowing them to thrive. So those millions of hungry mouths turn into many millions more, perpetually, and instead of a few million suffering from starvation, we end up with hundreds of millions suffering.

    Middlemen in Illinois and Ohio say they're getting about $1 to $1.25 a pound for the fish. Goldfish can grow to several pounds apiece in the wild and Lake Erie commercial netters are getting about 75 cents per pound at the dockside

    Could be worth looking into scientific approaches like they're doing with mosquitoes such as genetically modifying the problem species then releasing them into the population which when reproducing will cause any offspring to not be able to reach adulthood.
    Chemical solutions would affect more than the one species, and genetically modified viruses run the risk of mutating. Well, they will. That's what they do. It's just a matter of to what extent and if that negatively affects your goals.

    • @Arthanias
      @Arthanias 6 років тому

      Releasing genetically modified animals such as those is illegal and underresearched as of now, though it is certainly a possibility, same goes for the virus. These guys are doingthe best they can.

    Don't put your pet goldfish in the lake and people won't have to take them and their fry and their grandfry out of the lake like that in order to save the native fish.
    This is sad all the way around to have to do this.
    The people catching and dealing with these fish should talk to cat food makers, and see if they will take them. Or pressure cook them, and can or freeze them for your own cat food/dog food.

Why do we punish the species that are able to survive isn't that what life is all about. Gold fish survive while others don't they earned the spot in the eco system.

      Grand Pu The thing is these guys don't get it. I doubt any of them have any actual background in wildlife management. By hauling out some of the fish the ones left have less competition for resources and will thrive. Being the invaders have changed the ecosystem the native species won't come back buy just culling some of the invaders. The only way to do it is to poison the lake then restock it with native species and not just the fish but the native water conditions and plants also.

    If they add some aggressive fish that's slower in reproducing that would eat those goldfish that could help !

    You all might be right one a fish is a living thing and if you do nothing with a fish you catch it and release it, if you think about it you also can mess the food chain , but maybe you guys who say that you can get a fishing license are maybe right
