- We were told by locals that we had to visit Usguli. Little did we know what was ahead. It ended up being our scariest day of van life so far. The drive from Mestia to Ushguli is unforgettable.
After our exciting drive up the mountains and arriving in Mestia, we got up to explore the town. But, as you will see our day in Mestia didn't quite go according to plan!.

This video was killing me when you were driving through the hair pin mountain roads with the drop offs! I would have had a heart attack if I had been with you! It is a miracle that Trudy made it through all those water patches! The town is beautiful. Thank goodness you made it there and back safely!

That's breathtaking ! We have similar roads in some parts of spiti valley towards Leh Ladakh floor elevation of 4100 metres in Indian, planning to visit the place this summer as winters are snow covered.

Someday , maybe you can visit villages up in Our mountains . I got trips like that too when I tried to visit it. I just close my eyes pretending im asleep, hahaha.

OMG, it was crazy. Marianne deserves an award for her driving, cant believed it. My wife could not see and it was hard to watch. Well, i would suggest not to take such risk coz you can damage dear Trode as well and stuck somewhere. Still well done 😍

I feel like you may need to get more of an all terrain vechicle for those times you go on these types of bad roads. (It’s really more of a off road - road experience) Poor Trudy ! She needs a break.No way I would have done this. I would have turned around long before …So did you look around that village you stopped at? I hope so. It looked very old with those towers.
Yep Trudy took us on a big adventure ... we see Trudy like our favourite shoes ... we don't keep them for best, we use and enjoy them everyday ... and maintenance and fixing was always part of the plan !! She is old but hardcore and we love her 🚐😍🌺

If you want to step it up road-wise, go and try out Omalo (another village in Tusheti):-).

@@TREADtheglobe So true. I've got a question, if you don't mind answering. Currently, my car is in Belgium (second home), but it's registered in Spain (where I live). Since it’s been a while, technical inspection expired. I was planning to drive to Turkey (and ultimately to Georgia), but I am afraid Turkish officials won't let me in with my technical inspection expired. Do they check it when you cross the border? I'm not talking about the insurance but I mean technical inspection specifically ("ITV" in Spanish). Thank you in advance for your reply. Cheers.

The Dutch vehicle is a UAZ 452 minibus still made today its 4x4 go anywhere Russian goat of a vehicle, generations old.I noticed Marriane was the bastion of calm while Chris needed valium ........lol!

Gees. I took exactly the same route today with my rental Prius. Until 5.8km away from Ushiguli the road became daunting with all the rainwater running down, the road was black and the shear drop on the roadside was also black. I am glad I gave up just in time.

I was at the edge of my seat watching you drive through those dangerous wet, muddy and unfinished roads. If I were you I would not listen to anyone who sent you to these remote mountain areas. As a half-Svan, I will say that tourists like you are respected by the Svans, but if some tourists with a different culture come to Svaneti (which will cause great damage to the Svan culture), the Svans will be very angry.

When you visit South America roads on the Ands will show those roads a piece of cake like this road showed Haremtepe road a piece of cake.
