That announcer is great. Sorry he passed. He insures the audience that the one horse isn't naughty and also handles the whole situation perfectly. What a great man he was
I've always admired the announcers with good sense! Thank you announcer!! You are a great part of that community! (i don't like the racing communities much, but this announcer is great!!)
He was the Very Best at what he did!! My son would take pictures with him every time we came to Tennessee and Neshoba!! He was fascinated over Mr. Therrell. #GoneBut #NotForgotten🐎🐎
You know the only person who is sensible is the announcer everyone in the background is scaring the horses And thankyou to the announcer for telling everyone dont chase the horse let it run and also for saying the horses were scared and not being naughty So great job to the announcer
Appears to me that the trailing horse ran in, and the driver's wheel hit the hubrail. These things happen, but, IMHO, having watched tens of thousands of races, I think the driver could have been more alert going into that tight turn.
That Announcer really has an enjoyable voice to listen too, Ringo over at THE LITTLE BROWN JUG !!!!! is painful to listen to . Too bad old Charlie never got the gig or at least at one of the big time raceways. This fair racing is what its all about to me......the horse and goodtimes with the ones we love !! The way Harness was meant to be.
This is why the starter is in control of the track and the ambulance has no business being on the track until the starter has deemed it safe. This is not only my opinion, but this is the opinion of many Horsemen and starters that I have known over the years. It is a safety thing. That ambulance is more of a risk than anything while there are horses running around in the track. If they didn’t have an ambulance there, it would take at least five minutes to get it to respond, there’s no reason whatsoever that they need to bring that ambulance onto the track immediately. Those guys were all up and walking around. They were able to get off the track and they should have. They could’ve been treated in the infield or they could’ve waited until the horses were caught. I drove a starting gate at several paramutual tracks and some fairs over the years. The starter I worked with told every ambulance crew before every race card, do not come out onto the track until I tell you it’s OK. I don’t care if 100 people are screaming for you to get on the track you do not come onto this track until I give you the OK. He would then issue them a two-way radio which they could use to communicate directly with him in the starting car. The announcer did a great job, but common sense must prevail, and in this video, this is a prime example as to how not to do things
Bro that guy that hit the last horse in the green and white 2:40...what was he thinking? He was a rider too, shouldn’t he know not to hit it? The horse is only gonna go faster if you do that lmao
We're glad you enjoyed Charlie Therrell's commentary during the harness racing incident. Charlie's expertise and quick thinking are invaluable in situations like these, providing viewers with clarity and insight into what's happening on the track. We're grateful for his dedication to his craft and for keeping us informed during such intense moments. Thank you for recognizing his talent and for your support!
You don’t need to rope them, they are called outriders. And they don’t use ropes. They ride up beside the horse and grab the reins (lines)and bring them to a stop. But this looks like a county fair, it would not have happened if the driver on 7 could have steered the horse going into first turn. If you watch he yanked the horses head right sideways when he entered the turn. I don’t know if he wasn’t steering the horse or could not steer the horse.
Why do people scream bloody murder when the carriage wheel clips the vehicle. They act like the horse is trying to kill them personally or something. I swear people like that wouldn't last 5 seconds in a life or death situation.
Wow that looks bad. Is the reins in the legs or what but there's just too much staff disturbing their balance. Or drivers putting them too close to each other. These horses clearly weren't ready for racing yet.
The trailing horse down on the rail, ran up on and got his hoof over arch of sulky of the #2 horse who came down to rail without sufficient clearance. I say #2 caused the wreck. Wonder what Judges call was?
Exactly and what a joke. Still using inside running rails, although at some tracks it is hard to remove them but they have marker pegs out from the rail, not like this joke of a place where they still race next to it. plus no outside rail either, where they do need one, at start of straight with no protection for people in stabling area. so what do they think? That no horse could run off track and into people including children? The place is a nightmare waiting to happen and breaches all safety regulations. And the way some of the idiots just ran to the scared horse that was stuck over fence just shows how stupid people who should know better can be. running up to a horse that is stuck on anything can upset it more. it might be a County fair, but that's no excuse for ignoring safety. it all seemed very unprofessional.
You said "Some years we go the entire week without a crash" did you mean some years we go entire YEAR with out a crash? I work in the industry and if you have a crash a week that terrible and this place needs shut down.
Gotta be the most unprofessional thing I've seen in racing. Horses loose and they just park the ambulance in the middle of the track? People jumping in front of horses? Where's this place?
Dora Juhasz so if a driver is bleeding to death you think the ambulance should wait the 5 minutes it took to catch the horses . No one was hurt badly but drivers laying on the track have been run over by loose horses . The ambulance can protect them . Most harness tracks don’t allow the ambulance on the track until the loose horses are caught because they don’t want to be liable for repairing the ambulance, drivers be damned .
These horses absolutely love racing. More than a dog racing a car. Maybe it takes a country boy to understand this. I do know of people who have been suspended for mistreating their horses. It takes a healthy horse to continue winning money racing and veterinary bills are expensive. Owners do their best to treat them well. I strongly agree eyes need to be watching for abuse and properly reporting and following up.
Definitely a lack of thought and professionalism. The ambulance should have stayed away until the loose horses were caught. And how dumb to stand on the track while the loose horse is pacing around.
That announcer is great. Sorry he passed. He insures the audience that the one horse isn't naughty and also handles the whole situation perfectly. What a great man he was
He was a great Announcer and friend.
This is the type of person I would LOVE to hear as a news anchor! 👏👏

Horse #5 took out the ambulance with that chariot, while horse #7 thinks he's in the biggest race of his entire career.
that is a very good point. Thank you for watching the video

Great announcer.
Bro that guy that hit the last horse in the green and white 2:40...what was he thinking? He was a rider too, shouldn’t he know not to hit it? The horse is only gonna go faster if you do that lmao
It looks like he was flicking at him to keep him away from the edge so he didn’t get the cart caught

That is so true!
the dog stopped the horse by talking to him at 3:38
Thank you! I did not see that dog until you mentioned it. Haha. Thank you for pointing that Dog out and for watching the video.
At first, I thought there was something wrong with the wheels. But after reading the comments, it looks like it's actually the track that's at fault.
They have made allot of safety improvements since this incident. Thank you for you comments and for watching.
Didn't know that. Thanks for the info
Wow!!
The Gard r rail was gone for years
Pretty good job especially for a county fair. Where was this?
Lincoln County Fair in Fayetteville Tennessee! There have been improvements to the track since then!
Best announcer!! Mr. Charlie Therrell RIP
Charlie Therrell was the best. Thank you for watching the video.
I don’t know why these horse events don’t have someone on horseback that can rope, waving at a horse isn’t going to stop them
A roping horse is going to have to be taught to deal with - not only the horse, but the bike
You don’t need to rope them, they are called outriders. And they don’t use ropes. They ride up beside the horse and grab the reins (lines)and bring them to a stop. Got running in bad leaving the gait. I never liked driving horses with go straights on either. He got knee knocking then ran in. By the looks of it
Thank you for your comments.
Announcer sounds like Jim Jones before they served the Kool Aid.
Dude I'm on the floor

And they were BOTH very effective in what they were doing. Keeping a calm voice, calms others. Doesn't matter who it is.

Good catch; the voices are identical.
Horses, surrey and drivers racing top speed close quarters what could go wrong?🤷
somebody needed a apple for the horse
What a cheep track! It reminds me of a cheap carnival.
It was a small county fair out in a southern rural area, not The Meadowlands!

Yes....The Lincoln County Fair in Fayetteville Tennessee.
Don Counts I went to the races when I was a kid been a long time great memories thanks for sharing
0:56 why would they stay in there on the ground while horses are running around
Loose horses were desperate to win... It's my chance.
them inside rails have no business on a race track
I agree. My brother races in Chicago and most tracks have done away with them.
Was that Mike Moss in the gate?
Yes is was Mike Moss! Thank you for watching!
Of course he is scared to death his sulky hit the ambulance
Where are the clerks of the course
What are clerks of the course?
Don Counts mounted ponies that can render assistance to drivers In such circumstances.
I think they're normally called outriders but a lot could have been prevented if they had them here.
2014 and there are still places hosting harness races with a rail!?

@@125sloth youre quite an expert
That’s why you’re not supposed to let any trucks on the track when they lose get that ambulance off of there
