@@kelseyjaffer the US government directly financially supports DEI movements, and if i'm not mistaken, developers taking part in DEI implementation makes the company pay less taxes or some bs, so it's extra money in the company's pocket regardless, as well as extra money for the DEI advisors. and, while yes you're technically right, there was some effort, you cannot say the effort was high enough or that the results were good at all. if the effort is counterproductive to the objective, then i'll never count it as it being made in the first place. waste of resources, freedom taken away from the players and direct insults towards them aren't effort that should be recognized in the slightest.

We bought the DLC and they still locked even old shinies we have access to in other games...We cant breed any paradox pokemon for shinies so exclusives are now a bigger thing than ever... such a shame because between video games, cards, licences, plushies and other merch they make soooo much money most people couldnt even begin to imagine, yet we got the mess that is violet and scarlet... we gotta realize they lost there soul as a company around the time ultra sun and moon didnt do as well as they hoped. You can follow the changes since then and the release of pogo just shows that even more each month...

I think my biggest complaint is that my character went from a somewhat slim build with a slight tan, to emaciated with a complexion comparable to raw chicken. Doesn't help that the morel proportions are seriously uncanny.

The worst part is ive noticed the models look lower rez now for one reason or another, its extremely distracting because the grunts and other models all look fine
What's crazy to me is that ONE group (GaymarX) came in, told them to make these changes to be "inclusive" and it all got ruined, why not take feedback from your customers instead of a group of people that don't care for the game and with a history of harassment against their employees
It's a visual update, that on typical Niantic fashion, didn't get enough QA. I'm sure they outsource their QA to india or Croatia. Every feature they drop, there's always some bug; however, as a fellow game developer, new features are good. Bug fixes will be coming for the clipping art, I'm sure if it. I worked on a live game for ten years.
I saw this on my feed, loaded up pokemon go, saw my character had actually been changed, deleted the app. Almost lvl 40 and wont miss it at all. #revertupdate
I just picked up the game again and I noticed this immediately. Its like they are going for androgynous angle, every time I tried to make my avatar look less boyish, it ended up making him look more feminine. Trying to make them more masculine by adding shoulder width just made them look like they were wearing old school football pads, it was pretty bad. And the faces, like I cant tell whether they're male or female. And why not have an option for no hair, or very short haircuts or facial hair? They need to get the people who worked on Dragons Dogma II to figure it out for them.
I uninstalled GO back in February, during the Timeless Travels event, no less (which I'd initially been excited for, wanted to try getting a Shinx), but then I realized I was more or less bleeding money weekly to keep playing. Uninstalled, told myself 'maybe I'll come back in the future'. And now I don't know if I ever will. I'm almost mortified to see what my character looks like now, and I cannot bring myself to reinstall the app and check. I'll gladly sit in limbo in this regard.
maybe this was their plan. they didnt want to die a slow death so they did something to piss off alot of people at once to get them to quit and then they could cancel the game.
For how I customized mine I had to make him wear a different outfit that’s not like the team rocket outfit. But besides that I’m fine with how he came out.
main reason why i hate it was because its so hard to make your avatar look normal. like after the update my character had a face that looked like a baby and the body shape turned into a pear with a small head trapezium body and thick legs even on lowest and it looked so bad
I'm a heavy guy but my first reaction after the update immediately was "why is my character's face so fat?!" And why do I look like "Casper the ghost?"
My guess is that they wanted a more realistic look over the more anime-esque aesthetic. You can tell by the eyes. The eyes became more detailed as a result of this update. My guess is that they wanted to further move away from the more stylized counterpart as well as reduce the complexity of the avatar system for older phones.
Its its so weird how they changed the skin tone they basically whiten the mid tone colors and made all the dark skin purple and washed out, there are cool tone dark skin but they made them look more of an ashy purple then the cool tone dark skin
I mean, even trans people are getting upset over this update. Especially the ones who are transfem. By removing the ability to make avatars feminine you're basically telling transfem people they can't express who they are through their avatars.
@benlarson6031 It means a consultancy firm hired by Niantic called GaymerX (look it up), along with a number of individuals high up in Niantic who happen to be trans pushed for this change. That's why your female characters don't have hips and your make characters look androgynous. Because when they say, "See yourself" they mean "See myself". Because they're unhinged weirdlets that hate what they can never be.
i didn’t notice any difference except that i can finally wear my hair down. the old avatar never felt like me because i do not wear ponytails, so i like the update.

It's not even about them wanting to be inclusive or whatever they said, that's fine. But why weren't these androgynous looks SETTINGS, and instead changes that got thrown on to everyone by default.
Because all that diversity/equity/inclusion stuff isn't and never have been "popular" when it's not forced onto people throat...
It's 100% about them wanting to be inclusive. The issue is a lot of these companies are prioritizing "the message" over their actual customers. At this point the moment I see a team of devs preaching about inclusivity and diversity I just opt out because rubbish like this Pokemon Go situation are almost always the result.

Niantic made the mistake of hiring a DEI group to help them get ESG investments, instead of fixing the game and getting the money naturally.
In other words Niantic was greedy and paid the price for their hubris

My biggest pet peeve with it is that if you adjust your character to be more muscular, it removes the breast, which should be tied to the fat slider..
It feels like height was decreased but leg length was increased, also jackets apparently gives males chests in this new “update” 😅
The chest slider was put to zero and it still looks like I have one 😭

For me it's the eyes. Before, my character looked very bright and alert. Now she gazes at the world with disappointed dead-eyes
I think my biggest complaint is that my character went from a somewhat slim build with a slight tan, to emaciated with a complexion comparable to raw chicken. Doesn't help that the morel proportions are seriously uncanny.

When I got the update, Niantic gave my avatar a pancake butt, which is kinda ironic.
I didn't even know Pokémon Go was still a thing
My character used to be very close to my body type but now it looks manly so I’ve changed the clothes I put on my avatar.
I miss the old design. My character looks so ugly now 😭
What's crazy to me is that ONE group (GaymarX) came in, told them to make these changes to be "inclusive" and it all got ruined, why not take feedback from your customers instead of a group of people that don't care for the game and with a history of harassment against their employees

It's a visual update, that on typical Niantic fashion, didn't get enough QA. I'm sure they outsource their QA to india or Croatia. Every feature they drop, there's always some bug; however, as a fellow game developer, new features are good. Bug fixes will be coming for the clipping art, I'm sure if it. I worked on a live game for ten years.

The update stole my shoes, so I didn't even notice the model change until I saw a before and after post
What in the fuck.
My gameplay cut down by 80% since the change. Worst decision yet.
I just picked up the game again and I noticed this immediately. Its like they are going for androgynous angle, every time I tried to make my avatar look less boyish, it ended up making him look more feminine. Trying to make them more masculine by adding shoulder width just made them look like they were wearing old school football pads, it was pretty bad. And the faces, like I cant tell whether they're male or female. And why not have an option for no hair, or very short haircuts or facial hair? They need to get the people who worked on Dragons Dogma II to figure it out for them.
I uninstalled GO back in February, during the Timeless Travels event, no less (which I'd initially been excited for, wanted to try getting a Shinx), but then I realized I was more or less bleeding money weekly to keep playing. Uninstalled, told myself 'maybe I'll come back in the future'.
And now I don't know if I ever will. I'm almost mortified to see what my character looks like now, and I cannot bring myself to reinstall the app and check. I'll gladly sit in limbo in this regard.
maybe this was their plan. they didnt want to die a slow death so they did something to piss off alot of people at once to get them to quit and then they could cancel the game.

For how I customized mine I had to make him wear a different outfit that’s not like the team rocket outfit. But besides that I’m fine with how he came out.
main reason why i hate it was because its so hard to make your avatar look normal. like after the update my character had a face that looked like a baby and the body shape turned into a pear with a small head trapezium body and thick legs even on lowest and it looked so bad
I'm a heavy guy but my first reaction after the update immediately was "why is my character's face so fat?!" And why do I look like "Casper the ghost?"
Wanted to remove any definite gender traits from the models, didnt consider the entire system was built around those traits.
How do the models look LESS detailed than the old ones?!
My guess is that they wanted a more realistic look over the more anime-esque aesthetic. You can tell by the eyes. The eyes became more detailed as a result of this update.
My guess is that they wanted to further move away from the more stylized counterpart as well as reduce the complexity of the avatar system for older phones.
And this was a massive mistake. Pokémon is an anime based series first.

Its its so weird how they changed the skin tone they basically whiten the mid tone colors and made all the dark skin purple and washed out, there are cool tone dark skin but they made them look more of an ashy purple then the cool tone dark skin

@benlarson6031 It means a consultancy firm hired by Niantic called GaymerX (look it up), along with a number of individuals high up in Niantic who happen to be trans pushed for this change. That's why your female characters don't have hips and your make characters look androgynous. Because when they say, "See yourself" they mean "See myself". Because they're unhinged weirdlets that hate what they can never be.
