As a Tesla shareholder I am happy to see the improvements in battery capacity and charging rate, however, as a 2021 Model Y owner I will not actually gain any benefit as I charge >90% at home and when on long road trips, my wife and I like to take a break every 3 hours to handle natures calls which always takes longer than charging times. On a few occasions I had to leave the coffee shop to park the Model Y elsewhere as it was full.
yea when that happens just run it up to 90% or 100% so you don't incur idle charges. I do that every time , then reset my destination and skip the next few charger stops . When you do that the charge speed slows to a crawl. Gives me the extra time without having to go unplug and move the car till im ready to leave.
One of the real smarts of tesla is the building up of an incredible amount of free cash as this is underpinning the investment stategy in all aspects of the company.
Wish I had done that... 😁 But seriously, this is what the secret master plans were about. How to grow the business rapidly by using the profits they were making along the way. "use THAT money to do NEXT STEP". Not to borrow and beg for cash to hopefully make a great product one day.

Lars, you do not understand. Tesla has the very delayed 4680, but GM has Ultium! Ultium is better in every way. Better advertising, better marketing, higher prices, more 3D models, more media coverage, and better advertising. Tesla just can't compete with that.

Simply put, if you want to have something of your own, you can't buy it, you should build and do everything yourself, it's difficult but easy when you know that you can't count on others, as if you had no other choice.
In the traditional or legacy battery industry, it takes up to 6 years to make a new battery using the old chemistry and technology. What Tesla has done (dry anodic/cathodic) is extreme innovation and in 6 years (you say 4 years, not sure) is not really a delay.
As with most of their pursuits Tesla is playing a long game. If they can optimize high volume cell production (advantage of cylindrical cells) then they can continue improve yield of their dry cathode and anode process - they can then change up chemistries to meet need. At that point they can produce cells to support their entire product range. This is the last key piece to be vertically integrated.
Hold on for a second now! 800V and 400kW means 500 A. How in the can that be possible? Are they using copper pipes directly from the nearby power plant? EDIT: I just checked, and it wasn't as "bad" as I thought. 10mm diameter isn't so extreme.

Good point about the unfulfilled promises of legacy auto being ignored. I can't count the number of promises that Mary Barra has made about the huge numbers of EVs they were going to be delivering by 2024, but somehow nobody (that is nobody who accepts GM's advertising dollars) seems interested in pressing her about that. You could say the same thing about VW and all their grandiose plans that seem to have disappeared.

From what I understand the 4680 in the Cybertruck is capable of charging from 10% to 80% in about 15 minutes on a Tesla V4 supercharger according to chief engineer Lars Moravy. I do not know if that is with the improvements coming or as current.

My bladder range is smaller than the range of my car and it charges faster than I do
