I would suspect something in the soil is stopping the Santa rita taking up water Ana 🤔 The new growth is taking it out of the old pads. I had an Opuntia monacantha that was shrivelling up in the bed because it still had peat around the roots from the garden centre which had dried out and wouldn't rehydrate 😮🌵🌵
Ana that bush needs to be moved somewhere else in your yard so you can extend your garden. I think you said your husband likes it. Then give him a job Lol, he can find some where else to grow.
I would remove the juniper and use the space to move some of the other crowded cacti or even move the eve’s needle there. If not, move it somewhere else, it would be a pity to get rid of it. I like the idea of pots against the back wall or more gardens there. If it were me, I would use every inch that I can find to plant more! Can’t wait to see what you do.
I’m amazed at how deep the colors are on the cacti! They look really healthy. Did you find the extra rain to be beneficial? One option in both of those spaces is to find medium size trees so there would be a small canopy to give light shade. Maybe citrus? It would still give you room to plant or to set out pots. It’ll be exciting to see the next phase! Hope you (and we in Arizona) have a mild summer with a good monsoon. 💚 🌵 💚
Maybe move one of the large cacti like the cylindripuntia tree into that spot where the juniper is. You wanted the height there but you will e Be able to set it further from the wall
Your garden is looking amazing! I wonder if the Santa Rita is getting too hot near the wall. I have one in a pot and it thrives even in our 100° + temps. I have c strausii and they seem to rot easily with too much water. I lost a few this year due to too much rain. They seem fine here with our 32° f occasional nights. The Eves needle has the potential to get massive quickly! Maybe put it where the juniper bush is. I love the elephant in your garden ❤
My Opuntia aurea is about 7 feet across. I think it is going to be hard to contain it in the space it is in now. It has beautiful big pink flowers now and the pads are purple in winter. I’d move it into the palm tree garden where it has room to run.
The Opuntia that needs to be moved could be relocated to where the Bush is currently , or the other cactus that you mentioned will need to be moved from your "flowering " garden. You could plant some of the Opuntia pads around the front of either one you choose for some pop of color.
Oh Ana, your garden is envyable for sure. My cacti have bloomed and finished for the summer :( waaaa. I would thin out the end on the left of the Juniper bush and plant some of them in place of it. They look lovely but they may enjoy more room? Or, maybe you can move the Cylindropuntia in it's place? Just move it out from the wall. If you can, make an expanded area for it where the Juniper is. Such a beautiful garden. I wish my cacti were as blemish free as yours. So jealous Ana! LOL!! You're so lucky to live in the desert. Thanks for sharing! Happy growing.
Nice update, Ana 😊 I can't give any advice on your desert garden as I've no experience with them, but I'm sure whatever you decide on will be the right choice 😊 Thank you for sharing with us as always. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌸🌼☕
I absolutely LOVE your Cactus gardens Ana :-D and WOW with all the buds on your Opuntias, your big Opuntia subulata is AWESOME, if you do decide to move it maybe you could move your subulata where your Juniper bush is, and the Trichocereus growing against the wall would be INCREDIBLE, thanks so much for sharing the amazing Spring update on your beautiful Cactus gardens with us Ana, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a fantastic new week XXXX
Ana, your cactus in the ground are doing sooo well. What soil do you use/add? Is your backyard soil sandy? I have a few cactus that I now want to try in the ground after seeing how well yours are doing!
My native soil is rocky and mostly clay. My garden are all raised so I actually added compost and cactus soil on top. So the cacti are growing on well draining soil at least for the top 6 inches.
I would leave the austrocylidropuntia subulata. It looks great there. The only problems i see are, transplanting it will be a wicked ordeal!! And then, where to plant it where it wont be a problem. Lots of long sharp spines!! Or to just cut it down and discard it would be sad. Hope you can work it out. Well, the juniper could be looked at as a desert like plant. They grow on the desert in New Mexico , western red cedar. But then again, more cactus would be awesome!!! And it does look a bit rough. But what will you use to shade that part of the garden as you mentioned? Thanks for sharing Ana!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌴🌸🌻🍀🌿🌹🌾🌱💐🌳🌷🪴😃👍
Good morning, here in Brazil I have a cylinderopunthia in the vase. difficult to remove, very painful thorns. How would you do it? This one is about 4 meters. . I wonder ! Your garden is great. Growing cactus is difficult. I think! I have enough. Not as beautiful as yours. Here in Brazil, mercenaries charge a lot.
Hi Ana thanks for the video! In my opinion I think you should get rid of that green cactus for numerous reasons. 1, they are NOT FRIENDLY, 2, as if get bigger and taller the branches can’t support itself and they either lean over or break and fall off. 3 it gets massive and fast! I had one for about 8 years it got taller than the house and wider than a car, I got tired of putting up stakes to hold it up, and I always always had bad cuts after dealing with it!!! And who that’s my opinion let us know what you think!
OH NO! 😬 Our neighbor may not appreciate a spiky tree creeping on their side. I appreciate the info especially from someone who actually grew one of this. I think you are right, it has to go. What if I keep it growing in a big pot to keep its size small?
A wonderful update Ana, your garden is beautiful. I've got some O. Santa Rita seedlings (of a whole batch of 25, only 2 germinated) and am wondering where would be a good place for them when they get bigger. I may keep them in pots and away from a wall so they get good air flow.
Hello...would it be possible for you to do a video where you show all your fragrant cacti? i keep wondering which of the ones you grow have a scent. Thank you!
Hi Ana. Thank you for sharing your videos. I love cactus and succulents. I notice that the cactus soil in the pots gets to hard and I am afraid my cactus are not receiving enouph water. What do you think? I use cactus soil but I mix it with gravel for better drainage. My cactus look okay. Have a beautiful day.
Usually, soil that has a lot of peat moss gets hard and compact in time. Then it is also difficult to rehydrate them. Try using soil with less or even peat-free.
@@CactusCaffeine thank you Ana. I will check the ingredients in the bag. When I read cactus mix, I believe it would be good for my cactus. Have a beautiful day.
Do your Echinocereus Grandiflorus have red flowers? My itsy bitsy Grandi is in bud!!! she is only 4 inches tall and a big ol bud on top! It looks like it's going to be red. When I bought her the label only said Echinocereus so I'm not sure it is a Grandiflorus. It looks like the Grandiflorus I've seen on UA-cam. If it has a red bloom I think that sinches it.
Oh, I have several Trichocereus grandiflorus. They have different colors of flowers. One is red. It’s always a surprise what color you will get when you buy this cactus in stores.
@17:24 Wow, lovely cacti. They're even more beautiful when blooming. Talking about pots, I make my own why tiles from Floor & Decor www.youtube.com/@QuangDIYGarden/community
The cholla needs to be relocated na ate anna, tho it’s so pretty, it is getting so big and crowded na. It should have its own space where it can grow without problems. 🥹, i loveeeee it thooo it’s a STUNNER and the center of attraction. 🤩

Jesus loves you Cactus Caffeine
Here in Australia, the eve's needle cactus is classed as a weed as being dangerous for animals and birds, also illegal to grow it or sell it.
Take that eves needle out it will out grow all the other ones
If you move the juniper bush, Eve’s Needle could be relocated there!
Hmm. That is a possibility
Beautiful garden!! Im going to try the Opuntia in my front yard. Im in Michigan but i know they can survive the winters!!
Ana that bush needs to be moved somewhere else in your yard so you can extend your garden. I think you said your husband likes it. Then give him a job Lol, he can find some where else to grow.
That cactus your thinking of moving will get huge I had one it got 8 ft. High it will get at least 10 ft.
Omg! Our neighbor may not like that crouching on their property. Thanks for the info.
Good morning thank you for Sharing beautiful cactus garden lovely video

I think the cholla should replace the juniper bush. It could give some shade.
Glad you are getting rid of the juniper...can't wait for all the blooms and the transformation!!!
Haha. Still don’t know what to replace it with.
lol . If I listen to the whole video before saying anything. I’m so happy for that change.
Thanks. 😊 Your previous comment about that juniper validated my thoughts.

I think the Santa Rita can handle heat as long as it has good air flow. Your are right, that wall radiates too much heat during the summer.

Yeah, digging it out will be a painful task. Either it stays or it goes in pieces.
Beautiful cactus garden
Thanks for visiting
Hi! Ms. Ana thank you for sharing your cactus garden❤❤❤
Dont remove your juniper, just prune it like a bonsaï so it wont take much plance or shade too muche the plants around.
I always prune the sides but it won’t grow tall. 😔

I cut it down to about a foot left. The bottom is hard and very spiny. I need to get help digging the stump out. It is very spiny indeed. Ouch. 😣
Opuntia Santa Rita doesn’t like me. I bought some pads last year and they didn’t grow a single pad, and they rotted . I’m sticking to Baby Rita
I wonder why. They should be tough but we can’t keep them happy 🤔
Your blooming cacti are so pretty. Thanks for showing them.
Beautiful cactus ❤❤❤
I know that you have already shared the cactus food. Please share the name and brand.
Thank you.
Which one, the Opuntia ficus indica?

I’m not sure how they do as seedlings. But as adults, now I realize they need good airflow. 🙂

If you ever move, would you dig up your cacti & take them with you? Or would you leave them in the ground?
Ahhh! That is a a difficult situation to be in. I may dig out the precious ones but I think for the most part, I can just take cuttings.
