Linda Lee's 1973 radio interview after her husband Bruce passed away

This is from an audio cassette I bought in the late 70's called "Bruce Lee - The Last Interview", which had his last major interview with Ted Thomas and Linda's plea to the people of Hong Kong to respect his memory, both of which are already on UA-cam.
It also had this interview with Linda, shortly after Bruce passed away.
I am posting it on UA-cam for historic reasons and for posterity.
It gives more of an insight into the real Bruce Lee, from the unique perspective of his wife.
The cassette inlay did not give dates or the owner of the recording's details.
It also sounds like the end of the interview is actually at the start.
If the original complete tapes still exist, I will gladly remove this in the hope that the full version would be posted in it's place.
Bruce would have been 82 years of age today and it's mind boggling that next July (2023) will mark 50 years since he left us. This is my tribute to him, his legacy and in appreciation of Linda, Shannon and Brandon Lee.
The Family of the World is enriched by you all being in it.

Thanks for sharing. Her voice sounds so gentle and innocent. It must have been horrible for her after having lost her husband and having to bring up two children alone. It is so sad that Brandon Lee passed away like his father too early. I paid a visit to his grave in August 2022. Mr Lee and my father were born on the same day. My father passed away in 2020. My father was born in 1941 and Mr Lee was born in 1940. In his graveyard, I happened to meet a gentleman about 80 years old. He said he had been a classmate of Mr Lee at Garfield High School in Seatle. Even the famous musician Jimmy Hendrix attended the school. I was so excited and forgot to ask his name.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I don't know the name of the classmate, but I know sadly Bruce's best friend Taky Kimura used to tend his grave until he too passed away. Taky's son is carrying on his father's teaching, based on what Bruce taught him (Jun Fan Gung Fu). As long as we remember those who made a difference to our lives, they never die. Peace.

The photos of Bruce Lee's family are nice. As a fan, she looks so happy and smiling, it's irresistible. It's such a shame that Bruce Lee passed away so young at the age of 32. Thank you for such a precious and interesting photo. Also, if you have any, please let me know. I am looking forward.

Thank you for your comments. As to "Bruce Lee family photos", there are so many you can view, just by typing that phrase in your search browser on the Internet. Magazines, Fan Clubs etc, all have photos that you can buy. New unseen photos also appear from time to time. It's just a matter of looking online periodically. Good luck to you.

We as human beings are blessed 🙏😇 that Bruce Lee existed. I saw the movie "Enter the Dragon" and I was so impressed by Bruce Lee that I learned various martial arts achieving a black belt. He was a human being, and all of us humans are not perfect and make mistakes, but he did so much greatness, and seeing some of his faults...knowing this, then now no one has an excuse Not to succeed. Everyone can Succeed, Nothing is impossible...! Amen🙏😇

What a sweetheart and such a nice lady. Seeing Brandon with his dad really hit me hard and I was so saddened by it. Well, sad about his death and the way he died. Such a sensless and so stupid neglegent accident. that was so cool seeing Bruce teaching his son some moves at an early age. I just can't believe Brandon is gone, just like that. I won't even bring it up anymore. At least we have some images of the two collaborating and having those father and son moments. They're up there together an I'm sure taking care of the remaining family members. Anyhoot, Linda is such a sweetheart and I thank you for sharing. Yes, the HBO series "Warrior" is so awesome. I was happy to see that done. It's been so long since we've seen any real new Bruce related writing or shows. Thanks you so much! Wow! Just listening to her you can tell she really loved Bruce. Yes, of course they're married but I'm just pointing out how obvious it is and she really believed in his philosphies and teachings. Man, I can't imagine how devestated she an her daughter were when, never mind, dammit!

We are lucky that we still have Bruce and Brandon's films and interviews to look back on. And in Bruce's case, his teachings, writings and art work, which showcase what a splendid human being he was. Shannon has that same spark and is keeping her father's legacy alive for future generations by her thought provoking and inspirational presentations, based on Bruce's teachings. Bruce was all about improving one's self, be it physically and/or spiritually. Linda was the first to keep his flame alive and followed his philosophies, which helped her cope after he passed, being a young widow with two young children. All in all, a truly inspiring family.

I can relate to Bruce that, I enjoy socializing when I socialize, only the close one knows that I prefer spending time by myself and I don't need to step out at all. Most people only see our social moments when we are having fun in public. A term called "Extroverted Introvert" is what I can think of.

I'm wondering whether or not any of the drug letter stuff will be referenced somewhat in the new film coming out directed by Ang Lee? Since Shannon Lee is overseeing it I highly doubt it but it's a weird subject to gloss over given that the film will be based around the time he did ENTER THE DRAGON. I personally don't care if he used cocaine it was in fact the 70s. It wasn't the evil demon we think of like we do today.

not really, Tom Bleecker (if you believe him) claims he had access to Lee's medical records and that examination was superficial. such as blood pressure. He believes that it was the excess cortisone intake that caused kidney failure, which in turn caused swelling of the brain. all my life I thought Bruce Lee didn't take steroids or was very addicted to hard drugs but these letters raise a lot of questions. Personally, I think you have to be careful what Tom says. it would also be useful to get to the source and do an interview so we can all hear what Bob Baker's wife or daughter has to say. when you look at the last days of Bruce Lee, you can see his amazing health but it can also be superficial. We know he knew something was wrong with him, that he might die, he told Shih Kien about it. Interesting.

The truth is in the pudding. Since speculation Bruce was indeed a sick man probably all the way back to his first and second film. Problem is that at the time renal issues where infact very difficult to monitor, and indeed it became relevant that not many technological advances where not available at the time, to treat high blood pressure/ renal impairment.
Bruce still worked extremely hard to the end , and proved his career as a film and philosophy doesn’t go in vain.

Actually he wasn't sick he had a sizable drug problem based on the Bob Baker letters Grandmaster Lee started using various drugs when he was introduced in Hollywood he taught many actors James Coburn was one he used various drug in fact many of the celebrities used various drugs so Bruce felt to fit in with these celebrities he did what they did to get close to them when he returned to Hong Kong he was asking for drugs from Bob Baker constantly Linda knew this she even ordered drugs for Bruce on many occasions so she knew he had a drug problem and a sizable cocaine habit now please don't take this revealing as me hating on the Lee family that's the furthest thing from the truth Bruce was an innovator in many things he introduced Chinese martial arts to the World his physical prowess was above others and maybe his drug usage contributed to this Grandmaster Bruce Lee died of Cerebral Adema this is swelling by fluid on the brain cocaine abuse can cause this Bruce was sick but it wasn't by disease it was caused by dehydration and cocaine use if you think I lie go read the Bob Baker drug letters.if you don't know who he is was he was the Russian in fist of fury named petrov Bruce fought him at the end of the movie. its sad to learn this about the man I admired and respected but it wasn't a total surprise I mean it was Hollywood drug capital of the Rich and lamous.Shannon is usually very vociferous when it comes to her father but strangely to this day there's been no comment from the Shannon camp.

@ray h. Bruce wasn't untouchable, I enjoy his films but there were many better martial artists in HK and the States. He was innovative and a great self-publicist but the untouchable myth is outright hilarious.

Wait a minute. The LOVE of his life has passed away and she is constantly laughing ? What am I missing here ? Not an ounce of expressing grief and sorrow? Something is just not right here.

It’s common for people to use laughter in times of grief. Humor is both a defense mechanism in times of crisis and a tool for coping long after the event. After bracing yourself for sadness and seriousness in light of a traumatic loss, it may be surprising to find humor instead; but I assure you this type of reaction is normal.
Remember, healing requires a dynamic approach and just because someone relies on laughter at times doesn’t mean they don’t also spend a good amount of time with other emotions. There’s time to cry, time to be spent in serious reflection, and time to laugh - all are healing.
